Structure of the Church of Magna Serpaensism

ASI Era Church Structure

The Church is headed by the Proselytizer of Magnus, who serves as the Churches religious head. The present King of the Ash Sea Islands lords as the Bellanguiant, or Warrior Serpaent charged with the defense of the Isles, and the Sea. The Arch Priest of the Ash Sea Islands serves as the Paragon of Corvus, who has been invested with the powers of judgement, and lawgiving. With them sits the Council of Scions, who having served as the King were infused with the power of Magnus, and serve the great cities of the isles as their protectors and lords.

Below these elder ranks sit the Saurogogs, the Sect Heads. They serve to spread the teachings of their sects, and organize their flock as their sect accords it. Under the Saurogogs are the Herpetarians, the common priests. Accorded a stipend, they walk the lands of the Ash Sea basin and spread the faith to the unbelieving.

Modern Structure

Since the fall of the Ash Sea Islands, many of the previous positions in the church have been abandoned. There is a single Scion left in power. The Church functions mostly in the hands of its head priest, the Herpetarian Maximus, who attempts to spread the faith to new regions. Under the Herpetarians lie the Paragons, members of the Church who have shown a willingness and desire to help spread the faith without taking on the Robes of the Great Serpent themselves.

Historical Sects

Dark Python Brotherhood

A sect of mysterious holy warriors and devoted priests that seem to have some ancient texts passed down from generation to generation since the last Great Ascension of Magnus. They are known to be unwaveringly devoted to the defense of "all of Magnus's lands" as they put it, and they have put their very lives at stake to protect the Ash Sea Islands at all costs in the past. Their dedication is unquestioned, but the secrets they hold about Magnus that give them their unquestioning faith are known but to a few even amongst the Brotherhood. The Brotherhood ceased to exist as a functional entity shortly after the fall of the Ash Sea Islands, and no guildhouses are currently known to exist. The name refers to the concept of the organization existing as Magnus's shadow on this plane, imitating the shape of Him without wielding His divine power. Even the full name was concealed from initiates.
