Written by Abbot the Acelet

The Panafau Perrot
The Parinata Lizzard drawn when put close to the ocean, proof of it being able to adopt to any colour.

As an isolated island with a quite diverse geography, Madina holds or is the orignator of many interesting and exceptional species. Perhaps the most commonly known specie is the Birdy Bird, or the Perrot and sometimes even named, 'tiki-tiki'. A typical Madinan bird, with bright colors and a long tail, the most exceptional properties of this particular specie is that it can talk, or better to say, copy it's master in speech. The bird is usually learned curse words as a fun pet, but the birds have also proven to be great navigators and used as post carriers, to rely messages over great distances. Parts of the message can even be quoted by the bird it's self, which is received as a very handy trait. The bird comes in many diferent colours and shapes so as all the other species in Madina. This book will try to point out the most remarkable of species on the Island. It will deal with these species region by region as they do vary from area to area.

The Great eastern jungle of Panafau and Lawataling

The jungles of Panafau and Lawatling are part of a big jungle area on the east of Madina isle. Some claim, the most diverse place of life in all the known world. The jungle is particularly known for it's beutiful tropical birds. Among these birds, the most known is most likley the talking bird, or Perrot. I've personally discovered 34 varieties and found that they don't only vary in colour or size, but also in inteligence. One of the talking birds really jumps out in this category, the gray northern Perrot. The Gray Perrot is not only the best learner but also a master of inovation, in the wild it's seen to eat a huge variety of food and the only animal able to crack open the Lawataling bush nuts. A though nut to crack, even humans don't bother to open it, it takes patientless man a good pounding to get to the delishes oily substance in the center. The Gray Perrot has found out that drying these nuts in the sun for atleast a week significantly ease the process of opening them. When there dry they carefully remove the husk and then take the nuts airborn, in the skies they aim for a rock or another object hard enough to crack the nut upon. It takes careful aiming and a lot of patience, but eventually the gray parrot has the snack of his life.

The Panabear

The Jungles are also nortious for the many bugs it harvests, some poisonois some not, they are all a wonderful snack for the Panabear(locally known by tribes people as the Aye-Aye). Panabears are in fact not bears but small primates with enormous night eyes, an exceptionally long tail and flexible, moveable ears, they hunt at night and have an extraordinary ability to jump great distances. That is how they hunt, they simply wait till they spot a bug nearby and jump it in a surpise attack. The Panabear is not bigger then 30cm and due to it's size, has many natural enemies, like the Poisonous Madinan red snake, who comes out at knight and lives in the same treas as the Panabears hunting grounds. There extraordinary hands and feet, combined with its strong long tail allows the Panabear to climb extremely well in any tree in the jungle. There hard to spot and it takes many years to observe them. It is not known where they nest or sleep during the day as no one has ever managed to fully observe there habits.

Another bug eating animal up in the many lush treas of the Great Eastern Madinan jungle, is the Parinata Lizzard, a strange, slow animal with indivually moveable eyes that can view it's entire surounding independently and a magical skin, able to adopt its colour to its suroundings. It uses it's enourmous tongue to shoot and grab its prey, mostly the green Talins, the biggest mantis of the jungle, the Parinatas favourite snack. The Parinata is worshiped by local tribes people for it's magical ability to change its skin into any colour and is believed to be an embodiment of the Forrest spirits.

Perhaps the most nottorious animal of all, is the Lawaconda, a huge snake able to swallow a man whole. The conscriptor snake is rumoured to have reached sizes of 9 meters long. It resigns in the lower swampy areas of the Lawataling jungle and is very rare. Sometimes bad conditions drive them out of there natural habitat where they can form a treat to humans, they can be a though enemy, there skin is thick and flexible, even the best of arrows form no direct deadly treat to the snake. Untill now several Lawaconda attacks on local farmers have ocured and some times, per exident they form a small group. The army will have to come to get rid of such group in case it decides to stay around and feed on the local peasants.

Except from the Panabear, there are also other primates, Primates that act more like us. a great example is the Madinan Fenny Ape. It's a medium sized primate that can reach up to 70 cm in height and lends its name for its profound taste for Fenny, a local liquor made from Palm juice. Local tribesmen drain palm juice from the treas and catch it in a cocunut shell, they leave it on the trea while it slowly drains the juice, the contained juice starts to yeast, after a few weeks it will contain a small amount of Alcohol. As if they'd have a nose for it, the Fenny ape knows exactly when to drink the fenny, approximatly two days before the tribesman harvest it, the fenny ape steal the liqour and cause trouble threw out the jungle. The fenny ape is said to have humor but are considered fairly dangerous, they can be very aggressive and, like many other primates will try to steal your food or other for them interesting belongings. The Fenny ape is horrible in finding food for it's own, and ussualy just live off the fenny and or other stolen food. The fenny ape lives in deeper jungle areas where they are not chanced by tribesmen, who obviously are out to kill these monkeys. Not only do they form a treat for the tribesman, they also form a great delicate. There brains are eaten raw and are rumored to have a nice aftertaste of Fenny rum. It is also believed it will gain you more intelligence.

The jungles also know some larger mammal herbivores, of which the most exceptional is the barking dear. It ussually lives close to the habitat of Fenny apes, as it shares the same common enemy, the Madinan black panther. The dears can calmly graze the grass and bushes and look for other food while the Fenny apes keep watch. When they see a treat the Fenny ape makes a distinct sound and the Deers start barking. Ussually these combined sounds scar off most carnivores, but an expirienced group of black panthers know exactly what is behind it, a tasty meal of monkey and dear. The barking also warns the rest of the jungle as the sound can be heard from very far and in combination with the distinct fenny ape sounds, everyone will be warned of the presence of Bagheerah near. The local tribesmen also hunt dear and kindly make use of the barking to localize there prey.

Then there is the Madinan black panther or locally known as bagheerah, unlike other hunter species, the Black panther lives and hunts closely together in a group. Which makes them extremely dangerous. They are usually afraid of human and live in the deep jungles, but when there food supplies runs low, or there prey migrates towards the local villages, the Bagheerah can form a serious treat for humans. The black panther does eat human in times of hunger.
