Early Life

The first son of Halcyon Jazuma, Hendrick was born in a small chain of islands that he refers to as the Summer Isles, though their positioning on a map is unknown to most of the world. He was raised in a colorful and lively court of his father's creation and was privileged with countless books and excellent teachers.

A fiery and restless youth, it was Hendrick who first attempted to leave House Madigan to see the world and convinced his brother to do likewise. Bold, passionate, and clever, Hendrick is more confidant in himself than he has a right be and is eager to prove himself to those around him.

Luria Nova

He arrived in the realm of Luria Nova where he was warmly welcomed by Torpius D'Arricarrère who converted him to the fold of Aetheris Pyrism, a faith that he now pledges his life to. Possessing his father's knack for politics and law, Hendrick was appointed as the Earl of Thar Gortauth in the newly established Duchy of Shinnen and worked tirelessly for his new region and realm.

Luria Vesperi

After careful planning by Duke Bipel Coldchest and permission from King Tybalt Crusader of Luria Nova, the duchy of Shinnen ceded to form the kingdom of Luria Vesperi. Hendrick was appointed to High Magistrate of the realm, following in his father's footsteps.

During the Lurian War where Luria Nova and Solaria fought the Kingdom of Pian en Luries, Hendrick was appointed Ambassador of Luria Vesperi and began work trying to restore peace to the peninsula. He drafted a document called The Confederacy of Luria that sought to unite the Lurian kingdoms into a cohesive federation and end the conflict between brothers. Granted legitimacy by King Bipel Coldchest, Hendrick brought the document to Arbiter Malus Solari, King Saul Tarvitz, and High Commander Kamron Lorganson. In short order, the negotiations were completed and the Confederacy was signed by all parties, ushering in a new area of peace and stability in Greater Luria.

During a series of studies into the darker side of Aetheris Pyrism, Hendrick fell under the influence of a malicious Lower Spirit, who began warping his mind. The lord began placing power and advancement over loyalty and honor. After a Pyrist curse, his madness began in earnest, manifesting in extreme brutality and cruelty to his bride-to-be, Lady Alice Arundel, and his plotting against the Church - not to mention the King of Luria Vesperi.

After garnering the support of Alice and several foreign entities, Hendrick Madigan plotted his rebellion in the Church by enlisting Jeffrey Norrel to form an order of righteous templars called the Zealots of the Flame, who would take power once the Church fell into his hands.

When the rebellion began in earnest, Hendrick and his rebels held the capitol and won all battles for several days, before succumbing to superior numbers. Hendrick and Alice fled to Solaria, with Jeffrey Norrel swearing vengeance on Hendrick for failing to complete the rebellion. At the same time, the Prophet stripped Hendrick of his religious rank and declared a ceremony of purification was in order to cleanse the wayward Blaze Guide.

Solaria

Stripped of power in the Church and cast from home, Hendrick voyaged to Solaria with Alice in tow, pursued by the wrathful Jeffrey Norrel. However, despite losing all of his power within the Empire, Hendrick was welcomed warmly by the Solarians and swore loyalty to Malus Solari. After some time, Hendrick became Earl of Mattan Dews, while Alice rose in position in the Church.

During this time, Jeffrey Norrel finally tracked Hendrick down and arrived to collect his head. The champions of Solaria rose in his defense. Sir Bremen Olmsford was first to draw sword and was wounded badly. Then, Hendrick's best friend and close ally, Francoise Duvaille, Justice of the Realm, challenged Jeffrey. Francoise was killed and Jeffrey fled, oaths of revenge and blood debts following him. After Houses Madigan, Solari, and Duvaille, among other, declared their intentions to exact vengeance, the Imperial Council declared Jeffrey the first Imperial Fugitive and he was banned from all Lurian realms, forced to run to D'Hara to escape justice.

When Malus Solari stepped down from his post as Arbiter, Sevastian Guile, a close friend to Hendrick came to power and installed Hendrick as Preda, or General, of the realm, charging him to conquer the island nation of D'Hara.

Rechristened as Battlemaster, Hendrick waged war in the West, until the end of Solaria under the edict of Malus Solari. Remaining loyal to House Solari, Hendrick rejoined Luria Nova under his guidance, and took command of the Royal Host.

Luria Nova: Again

Rejoining his mother realm, Hendrick's life soon took three distinct advances: firstly, war against Luria Vesperi was advancing, meaning his claim to the Shinnen Domain was in reach. Secondly, his lady wife, Alice Arundel, became Queen of the Realm. And thirdly, Hendrick was elected as High Commander, leading the war against his former king.

Aetheris Pyrism

In the faith, he is the author of collection of documents on Theosophy and has recently been appointed to the position of Blaze Guide, or the equivalent to High Priest.

Personality

Though outwardly confident, Hendrick has occasionally displayed what his father called his 'mortal flaw', a crippling fear of darkness and enclosed spaces. This fear is alternatively enhanced by the stories of the Dark Ones in his faith and lessened by the comfort of Aetheris Pyrism.

Hendrick, despite having confidence in his swordplay, has been noted to slight and, despite his height and finesse, lacks the strength of his fellows knights. In lieu of martial skill, Hendrick compensates with his political abilities. Hendrick has also been noted to be noticeably foreign, thanks to his strong accent ((OOC: Welsh)) and his habit of slipping into his mother tongue.

After the attempts on the lives of Malus Solari and Koli Bedwyr, Hendrick rapidly gained information on the situation and collected remarkable first-hand accounts, indicating that he shared his father's ability to effectively operate a network of informers and spies, thanks to his forceful personality, deft use of family wealth, and canny use of sensitive documents.

Appearance

As noted by the tailors and stewards upon his ascension to a position of lordship, Hendrick stands at six feet tall and weighs one-hundred and ten pounds, making him extremely slim. It was noted that the lord, while healthy, is neither strong nor hardy, though his litheness suggest grace and speed. His hair is blonde, his eyes a bright azure, and his complexion is exceptionally fair, with no signs of wrinkles or weathering. Rather than handsome or dashing, Hendrick has been described by his ladylove as "beautiful" and "a flower" and shows no trace of facial hair or strength of arms.

His personal preference, coming from a land of much colour and currently living in a land he finds dull, is to wear clothes of extremely vivid hues and fine makes. Most often Hendrick wears vermilion, crimson, salmon, or gold, fitting with his personal emblem of a stag rampant on a field of orange.

For ornamentation, Hendrick often wears a number of rings and necklaces, and in the style of his homeland has small ring in either ear. He bares an ink marking of a sunbust on his right shoulder.

Servants

Hendrick has previously employed informants and spies, with at least two confirmed in the palace of the King of Pian en Luries. His personal guard and household soldiers are all Summer Islands men, sent to guard the scion by his father. They are loyal to a fault and carry out their duty with quiet competence, often in defiance of any other authority or decency - such as imprisoning a knight of Hendrick's region and spying on nobles of other realms.

Hendrick is attended by his faithful valet, Llywellyn Hargrave, son of his father's manservant Pent Jazal. Llywellyn knows his master better than any soul alive and tends to his peculiar and capricious master with a mixture of fondness and exasperation. It was noted by Alice Arundel that Llywellyn harbors a bashful and secret love for her.
