Hernfelk ran until he could no long hear Nick's painful screams. His hands were shaking with fear and legs were trembling with exhaustion. His head felt heavy and the world around him was spinning. When he lifted his head, he could see his men running toward him. A soldier in the front approached Hernfelk with his horse.

Soldier-"Sir! What happened? I heard screams of Mr.Ravenfield then you ran like you've met a ghost or something."

When Hernfelk heard Nick's last name, his face became so pale he looked like a dead man. The soldier quickly gave a leather water bottle to Hernfelk. Hernfelk spilled most of water as his hands were too shaky for him to hold the leader water bottle. After drinking most of water in the bottle, Hernfelk managed to calm himself down a little.

Hernfelk-"Fanatics in the church was waiting for us. They already ate the wounded man we tried to rescue. We got cornered in a quarter with barred windows. I managed to escape but Nick... he... they cut him open while he was stuck in the window. They cut his... his..."

Soldier-"Sir. Drink more water. I can't believe Mr.Ravenfield is dead. What are we going to do?"

The soldier turned around to talk to his fellow soldiers. All of them seemed to be confused by the death of Nick. Hernfelk was their leader but it was Nick who took care of them.

Hernfelk-"We need to get Nick back from those bastards. I will kill them all. I will cut their guts open and strangle every single one of them with their own intestines. Ha...ha...HahahahaHAHAHAHAAHAH!"

Soldier-"Sir...We can't save him. He is dead!"

Hernfelk-"He isn't dead you bastard!"

Hernfelk hit the soldier in the face with the leader water bottle. The soldier fell down on the ground.

Soldier-"Grab him! He is not himself!"

Another soldier got hit by the bottle before they managed to restraint Hernfelk. They tied him to his saddle and dragged him back to the newly built campsite.

Hernfelk-"Uhhh...Where am I?"

It was already dark outside when Hernfelk woke up. His head still felt heavy and foggy and it was too hard to recognize anything in the dark. After blinking a couple times, his eyes finally started to adapt to the dark. He was tied to a wooden pole in the middle of the newly built camp. Soldiers were lying by his feet, some of them were grumbling while sleeping.

Hernfelk-"Why are these idiots sleeping outside? Nick, put these men back to-"

(Nick)-'I am on it, Sir.'

Hernfelk-"Damn it, Nick. I said don't cut me in the middle of-"

(Nick)-'Why are you tied up here, Sir? I thought you would avenge me.'

Hernfelk-"What are you talking about Nick?"

(Nick)-'Sir! They are cutting my stomach open! Help me!Argh!'

Hernfelk-"....I will avenge you, Nick. So please get out of my head. Ackkkkkkk!"

Hernfelk's cry woke soldiers up. One of them knocked Hernfelk unconscious right away.

Soldier with a bruised left eye-"Are you going to be okay, Sir? I mean we can untie you if you promise not to go berserk."

Hernfelk-"How many times do I have to tell you I am fine? I will only punch that bastard between horses once and stop."

Bastard between horses-"Oh come on, Sir. You hit me with my leather bottle twice."

Hernfelk-"And you kicked me in the head!"

Soldier with a bruised left eye-"Let's untie him boys. I think Sir Hernfelk is fine now."

Bastard between horses-"Hey. What are you guys doing? Can't you see? He is still not himself!"

The bastard between horses tried to stop his fellow soldiers from untying Hernfelk but the soldier with a bruised left eye pushed him back. After being untied, Hernfelk stretched his arms and shook his legs around.

Hernfelk-"Ah~~~! I feel alive! Alright then. Back to business. You, blue eye. What is your name? Since Nick is gone, I have to memorize all your names myself."

Soldier with a bruised left eye-"Mary, Sir! I am the third son of Max the baker from the city of Perdan"

Hernfelk-"Wait. Your name is Mary? Isn't that for a girl?"

Mary-"Uh. Yes, Sir. My father, Max, wanted a girl but he got a boy instead."

Hernfelk-"How many sons does he have?"

Mary-"Eleven, Sir."

Hernfelk-"And you are the third, right?"

Mary-"Yes, Sir."

Hernfelk-"How many sisters do you have, Mary?"

Mary-"I have none, Sir."

Hernfelk-"...Don't tell me your father named every child with-"

Mary-"Please Sir. Please don't go there. I am begging you."

Hernfelk-"Ahem. We got a good bed time story here. We will talk about this later. Everyone get yourselves prepared. We are going to go on a patrol. We've been slacking off for too long."

As the soldiers scattered to get themselves ready, Hernfelk turned his head towards the great temple. His eyes were glittering with hatred but that faded away as men began to gather.

Hernfelk grouped 9 people into 5 pairs. One pair to guard the camp from looters, while other 4 pairs patrol four directions - north, south, east, and west. They decided to rotate their patrol positions every two hours then headed for their assigned positions. Hernfelk paired himself with Mary and walked towards the south, away from the great temple. He originally assigned himself closer to the temple but his men protested and threatened to tie him to the wooden pole again.

The streets looked bigger due to the lack of visual obstacles as Perdan and Caligus destroyed over half of the residential areas during inner city assaults. Most bodies were cleared from collapsed buildings to prevent any disease from spreading. Only relying on the light emitting from their torches, they walked down the street. Occasionally, the two spotted starving citizens lurking around the city trying to find food. They ran when they saw Hernfelk and Mary as if they were ghosts. They probably recognized the lion crest on armours.

Hernfelk-"So Mary. You have two older brothers and eight younger sisters?"

Mary-"No Sir. I have two older brothers and eight younger BROTHERS. I don't have SISTERS."

Hernfelk-"You must envy your brothers since they actually have proper male names."

Mary-"No Sir. I do not envy dead people. Both of my brothers lost their lives during the last war. Those scums from Caligus gutted my brothers for fighting back while they raped their wives."

Hernfelk-"... I am sorry, Mary. I did not know that."

Mary-"It is okay, Sir. You shouldn't feel sorry about them. You are not the one who gutted them."

Hernfelk-"You are probably not happy with Perdan working with Caligus."

Mary-"Indeed, Sir. Many of us are not very happy about allying with Caligus. But I guess nobles do not care much about how us lowly peasants think."

Hernfelk-"They have no reason to. Especially for the nobles high in the hierarchy."

Mary-"Sigh. I won't even get a chance to avenge my brothers?"

Hernfelk-"In time you will. In time."

Hernfelk gathered his men to find something eat for dinner. They still had a saddlebags of food but that was for an emergency. As men gathered, Hernfelk found himself something to stand on.

Hernfelk-"Ahem. Everyone. We have to go find ourselves something to for dinner. We are running low on food and I want to save some for an emergency."

Mary-"Sir. There is nothing to eat in the city. We probably have to leave the city to find something."

Hernfelk-"Yes. I realize that. If there was anything to eat in this city, peasants wouldn't be eating each other. We will divide into three groups. Fatty, Bastard and Slim. You three will head north. Mary, Nora, and I will go south. The rest will stay here and guard the camp. Got it?"

Everyone-"Yes, Sir."

Hernfelk, Mary, and Nora (Mary's brother, 4th son of Max the baker) rode towards the southern gate. The gate guards stopped them for a few minutes for some paper works.

Hernfelk-"How far is it from the lake?"

Mary-"Sir, we just went through the gate. We have to ride for at least half an hour to get to the lake."

Hernfelk-"Curses. I hope we can catch some fish before it gets too dark. I am already starving."

Mary-"Sir, it was your idea to gather food instead of eating what we have."

Nora-"We were fine with eating bricks and leather straps, Sir."

Hernfelk-"I am fed up with eating that solid bread and tough bacon. Just thinking about them makes my jaw feel sore. We need some delicate sea food for a change."

Nora-"Sea food will be nice. We can maybe make a fish stew to go with a black grain bread."

Mary-"Who's going to cook though?"

Hernfelk-"... Mary. Your name sounds pretty motherly. Why don't you cook us a stew?"

Nora-"No Sir. He can't cook. I bet those urchins on the streets of Ibladesh can cook better than him."

Hernfelk-"How about you, Nora."

Nora-"I am even worse than Mary, Sir. That is why I said I am happy with eating whatever we have."

Hernfelk-"Just pray that someone knows how to make a decent meal out of whatever we are going to catch... Oh well let us focus on fishing for now. To the lake!"

The sky was turning dark blue as Hernfelk, Mary, and Nora arrived at the southern gate of the great city. They barely caught anything from the lake. Hernfelk caught nothing but small unknown fishes. Mary and Nora fell asleep in the middle and nearly made Hernfelk beat them both.

Hernfelk-"We only... Let me rephrase that. I only caught small fries while you two caught nothing! How are we going to feed ten grown men with eight small fries?"

Mary-"Sorry, Sir. I just couldn't stop myself from falling asleep. It was just near impossible."

Nora-"Sir, we had no chance of catching anything anyway. That lake was over fished by peasants and other soldiers! It was statistically improbable!"

Hernfelk-"Damn it. Let us hope the other group managed to find something to eat."

Mary-"I think we should be praying that they didn't eat the emergency rations."

Thankfully, the other group managed to catch rabbits and birds. Eric and Tom, called 'Fatty' and 'Slim' by Hernfelk, knew how to cook something decent and decided to make a pot of stew with rabbits and small fries. Mary and Nora were charged with roasting rabbits. Hernfelk was kept away from the whole thing since it was better without him. When the food was ready, everyone gathered around Hernfelk.

Hernfelk-"Should have made you two cook things from the beginning. So how are we going to divide the rabbits."

Mary-"What do you mean, Sir? There is enough meat to go around."

Hernfelk-"I am talking about legs. We don't have enough legs. We only have six hind legs. No one wants to get those small frontal legs."

Everyone-"Hmm..."

Hernfelk-"That is why, I will get all the hind legs to prevent any unnecessary fights-"

Mary and Nora quickly grabbed Hernfelk's hands. They shook their heads.

Mary-"Oh no. No way, Sir. We are not giving up on those legs."

Nora-"Sir. Being a superior means nothing in this situation."

Hernfelk-"Fine, fine. Let us decide this with a game then."

Soldiers looked at each other's face, puzzled by Hernfelk's suggestion. Hernfelk smiled quietly while reading confusion among the faces of his men.

Hernfelk-"Grab my helmet. Yes. Pass that here. Alright. We are going to write our names and put it in this helmet. The last name that comes out will be the winner. How's that?"

Tom-"That sounds fair."

Eric-"Wouldn't it be faster to let the first name that comes out to be the winner, Sir?"

Mary and Nora nodded, agreeing to Eric. Others also slowly nodded their heads to show they were also agreeing with Eric's idea.

Hernfelk-"Well if everyone wants to do it that way, fine. Let's do it that way. I wrote everyone's name down already. I am putting them into the helmet. (murmurs) Idiots. Just as I expected. I win no matter what. It is my game anyway. Muhahhwahahw."

Hernfelk put a handful of folded pieces of cloth into the helmet. He gave it a good shake then put his hand into the helmet.

Hernfelk-"Ready everyone?"

Tom-"Show us the name already, Sir."

Hernfelk-"...What the hell is this? How did this happen?"

Hernfelk's face became pale white. His hand was shaking and his eyes were frozen with fear.

Eric-"Tell us the name already, Sir."

Hernfelk-"...Nick."

Everyone-"..."

Herfenlk-"...Let's just eat."

Mary-"Good idea, Sir."

The sun was rising. It was time for Hernfelk and his men to sleep until the sun sets. Much to Hernfelk's dismay, his marshal assigned his men for night patrols until the general returns with enough hammers to bring down the temple. Hernfelk and his men managed to make a bigger tent to put more men in the same place during last night. Hernfelk forced Mary and Nora to talk about their brothers.

Hernfelk-"First, tell us about names of your brothers, Mary. Starting from your oldest younger brother to youngest."

Mary-"Sigh. Sir, he is right beside me."

Nora-"I am his oldest younger brother Sir."

Hernfelk-"I forgot. What about the next one?"

Mary-"5th is Kate, 6th is Ashley, 7th is Michelle, 8th is Elizabeth, 9th is Emily, 10th is Helen, and the last is Jane, Sir."

Hernfelk-"Don't you feel weird to call your brother with those names?"

Mary-"Not anymore, Sir. But when we were kids, we hated our names. We tried to call ourselves with more masculine names. Like I was called Marc by my brothers and Nora here was called Nomno-"

Nora-"I wasn't called Nomnom! Nomnomestal! It was Nomnomestal, alright? Dear Gods."

Hernfelk-"What the hell is Nomnomestal?"

Mary-"He tried to make his name sounds fancy but it back fired, Sir. Nobody called him Nomnomestal. Always Nom or Nomnom."

Hernfelk could hear Tom and Eric giggle. Nora tried to choke his brother but Mary moved away from him too quickly.

Mary-"Ahem, anyway even after calling ourselves with more manly names, nobody bothered themselves remembering those names. They still called us with our actual names. At least all of us looked like a real man."

Nora-"I think we had no chance of looking like a woman. Our mother looks more manly than our father. Even if we had a sister, she wouldn't look pretty or anything. Oh, yeah. Were you trying to seduce Becca from the mines?"

Mary-"Dear gods! Becca was the best woman I've ever seen. Her lines were just hypnotizing. She didn't have a single wrong hair on her body. Those muscles... Just too beautiful"

Hernfelk-"...Mary. Just sleep in the corner. Don't even come near me."

Mary-"Did I say something to offend you, Sir?"

Hernfelk-"Yes... Just get the hell out!"

Mary-"Wai-, Sir! I- Stop pushing."

Hernfelk pushed Mary out of the tent by kicking him. As Mary was being pushed out of the tent, he accidentally grabbed one of the wooden supports holding the tent together. When Mary ass met the ground, the tent collapsed on top of Hernfelk and others.

Hernfelk was enraged by Aeneas's letter. There was no way Hernfelk would let the temple go undestroyed. He swore he would avenge Nick by burning down the temple and killing every single fanatic in the temple. He ripped Pontifex's letter up and threw it to a nearby campfire. He frowned his face with anger and kicked a stone stuck out of the ground. But he only hurt his toes as the stone was actually a part of buried rock. Mary approached Hernfelk when he heard Hernfelk's moan of agony.

Mary-"What did you do to yourself, Sir?"

Hernfelk-"I.. I.. kicke..d this stone and.. almost.. broke my toes... argh..."

Mary-"Tsk...tsk... Please, Sir. That thing above your shoulder isn't a decoration. Please use it once in awhile."

Hernfelk-"Damn... it... argh... Curse that...Sartan's wench...It's all... her fault."

Mary-"You got a letter from an Ibladeshi noble, Sir? Huh. I got a letter for you here but I don't think it is wise to give you this letter right now."

Hernfelk raised his head to see Mary while rubbing his toes with his hands and saw him with a letter in his hand.

Hernfelk-"Who sent it?"

Mary-"Your cousin, Sir."

Hernfelk-"My cousin?"

As soon as he heard the word 'cousin' he was immediately felt discouraged from even thinking about who sent him the letter. All his cousins were abnormal to him. Starting from a star worshipping fanatic to an elf. A letter from any of them would bring nothing but a bad news.

Hernfelk-"Which cousin? Don't tell me it is-"

Mary-"It's from Westmoor, Sir."

Hernfelk-"Westmoor? I don't have a cousin there."

Hernfelk was now puzzled. He never heard of a cousin from Westmoor.

Mary-"Sir Zakilevo Lapallanch sent you this letter from Westmoor, Sir."

Hernfelk-"...You were just toying with me weren't you? Mary."

Mary-"Come on, Sir. After what you've done to me during the morning?"

After the tent collapsed from kicking Mary out, Mary had to rebuild the tent by himself while others slept in an empty house nearby.

Hernfelk-"Fine. I will let you go this time. So what did he write this time? If it is about finding a nice lady to marry, I am going to just feed the letter to our campfire."

Mary-"It isn't about that at all, Sir. He is currently visiting Westmoor. He wants to visit Perdan to see you."

Hernfelk-"NO! I don't want to see him! No! Write a letter to my superior! No! Send a letter to his majesty! We can't let him come near me!"

Mary-"Are you alright, Sir? Why are you going all crazy about seeing your cousin?"

Hernfelk did not answer Mary. Instead he screamed and yelled with despair.

A messenger arrived in Hernfelk's tent just after sunrise. He requested Hernfelk to prepare himself for a morning battle against dead peasants and soldiers. Hernfelk immediately woke everyone up to meet the army on the field. When they arrived in the eastern gate where Perdanese soldiers buried dead citizens of the city, they could see a horde of half rotten zombies walking towards the gate. Archers and infantrymen were lining up on the walls to stop the horde while cavalries prepared themselves behind the gate waiting it to be opened.

Hernfelk could hear archer commanders shouting 'fire' while infantry commanders ordering their men to throw stones, bricks and whatever they could get their hands on. After an hour, the gate opened but no one bothered charging through the gate. There was nothing to charge against beyond the gate. All the dead citizens were lying on the ground once again.

Hernfelk-"This is why we should just cremate the dead instead of burying them."

Mary-"Well I don't think people are that diligent, Sir. They would rather dig up the holes and bury all at once."

Hernfelk-"I hope they realize we are just attracting monsters and even more walking zombines by doing that. Whatever. We are done here, back to the camp. It is time for us to take a nap."

Mary-"Not yet Sir. We need to patrol the streets."

Hernfelk-"What? I thought we were doing that at night"

Mary-"Apparently we need to patrol twice a day, Sir."

Hernfelk-"Urgh. Fine. Tell the men to patrol the streets in groups of three."

Mary-"I will, Sir."

Mary-"Sir, your cousin just can now officially enter Perdan without any problem."

Hernfelk-"What? Didn't I tell you to send letters to my superiors to prevent this?"

Mary-"I told Nora to write the letter, Sir!"

Hernfelk-"Bring Nora here, NOW!"

Mary rushed out from the tent to find Nora. When Mary returned with Nora, Hernfelk was grinding his teeth while holding his table tightly.

Hernfelk-"Nora. What happened to the letters? Did you send them or no?"

Nora-"Sir, I didn't have the time. So I told Tom to write them for me."

Hernfelk-"Are you serious? Why were you busy?"

Nora-"Because it was my turn to wash all the filthy clothes yesterday."

Hernfelk put his palm on his forehead and sighed heavily. In the back of his mind, he felt it was inevitable for him to meet his cousin. Zakilevo would probably going to lecture him on things he already knew. He did not want to see that pointy eared man again.

Hernfelk-"Get Tom! No, wait. Get Eric too."

Mary and Nora left the tent and returned with Tom and Eric. Hernfelk asked Tom about the letters. Tom immediately stared at Eric.

Hernfelk-"Tom? Why are you looking at Eric?

Tom-"Well, Sir. When Nora told me about the letters, I did not have time to write them so I asked Eric to write them for me."

Hernfelk-"And I am guessing Eric didn't write them?"

Eric-"I did try to write Sir. I wrote my name on every single letter since I only knew how to write my own name."

Tom-"What kind of an idiot are you? You only know how to write your name?"

Eric-"I thought I only had to know how to write my name."

Tom-"Who wrote your letters for you?"

Eric-"Uh. You?"

Tom-"Ow..."

Hernfelk encountered a priest of Ibladesh who was lurking around the great temple while patrolling the temple district. Hernfelk quietly ordered his men to surround the priest before he could react. When his men cornered the priest, Hernfelk approached the priest with a wooden club.

Hernfelk-"Well done man. What do we have here. We have a filthy Ibby priest. Hmm... Why do you look so familiar?"

The priest tried to hide his face by looking down. Hernfelk remembered seeing the face of the priest before.

Mary-"Isn't this priest... I think he is Paladin Primus Nefasto?"

Hernfelk-"Really? The former lord of Oc Lu Pesh? What a lucky day. I needed someone to take my anger out and I meet Paladin Primus. Men, grab Nefasto. We are returning to the camp. We are going to have some fun before we hand him over to the army."

Nefasto tried to resist as soldiers tried to grab him. Hernfelk immediately beat him with his wooden club until Nefasto cried for mercy.

Hernfelk-"That is right Nefasto. You better be obedient. I only go easy once. If you resist again I will make sure to break your arm. If you try to run away, I will break your leg."

Mary and Nora grabbed frightened Nefasto by his arms and dragged him to where Hernfelk's horse was standing. They tied Nefasto's hands tightly with a rope and tied the rope to the saddle. Hernfelk smiled to Nefasto before he rode back to the camp. Nefasto tried to run as fast as he could but he soon became exhausted and tripped. Nefasto screamed as he was dragged by the horse. When they arrived in the camp, Hernfelk entered one of empty buildings around the camp with Nefasto. A couple minutes after they entered the building, everyone could hear Nefasto's painful moans and cries.

Hernfelk-"Whew. That was fun. Mary. Take him to the ducal palace."

Hernfelk came out from the building after spending an hour with Nefasto. His club and hands were covered in blood. Everyone knew what Hernfelk did and some shook their heads while others nodded silently.

Right after handing Nefasto to the guards, Hernfelk and his men gathered around the temple. General's men were ramming the temple door while men of other nobles were pouring oil around the temple.

Hernfelk-"Are we finally going to destroy this cursed temple? Time to avenge Nick. Men! Do not let anyone escape. Once we start burning the temple, those bastards will come out. Try to capture them if you can. I am not going to let them die so easily after what they've done."

Mary-"You heard him! Nora and two of you, take the east. Tom, take two and watch the west."

Hernfelk-"Mary, go check on the northern side and tell me when General's men breach the door."

Hernfelk unsheathed his sword as Mary ran north to check on other soldiers.

When the gate was breached, Hernfelk ordered his men to help others set the temple on fire. While he was walking around with a torch setting oil on fire, he could hear the windows creak as flames began to move into the temple. Hernfelk smiled as flames grew bigger. When he heard faint moans coming out from the windows he thought, it would be better to let all the fanatics burn along the temple instead of trying to capture them for torture. While he was debating whether he should just let fanatics burn or not, Mary came to report.

Mary-"Sir. General's men have surrounded the gate. Once fanatics are cornered they will probably going to try and break through. I doubt they can break through lines of spears."

Hernfelk-"Mary. Go tell our men don't bother capturing cursed fanatics. Just kill them on sight. They will try to break through the windows so make sure to watch out for that. Use spears instead of swords."

Mary-"Yes, Sir."

Hernfelk walked along the walls silently while hearing creaks coming from the windows. When he arrived at the very place he left Nick, he lifted his head to look at the window he escaped through. There was still enough gap for a person to escape through. Soon fanatics will try to avoid flames and try to escape through windows.

Hernfelk-"I am waiting for you bastards. I will kill anyone who comes out through here. Hehe... he... hehhehehe..."

He waited patiently and watched flames climbing the walls. The windows began to make different sounds. The creaks became bigger. Between creaks, Hernfelk could hear murmurs and coughs. Hernfelk's heart started to beat faster. He slowly moved away from the window and hid himself in bushes between the temple garden.

"(Murmurs) Look... We can go through here. Let children out first... Soldiers?... Let me check quickly."

Hernfelk quickly lowered his head. Between the leaves of the bushes, he could see someone's head looking around.

"It's clear... No one is guarding this window...Listen carefully. Once you get out, run to the garden. There is a secret passage between white trees. Run straight for it, okay?"

As soon as the voice stopped, a head of a child appeared out of the window. Hernfelk stared at the head for a few seconds then crouched his way to the secret passage. Not too far from where he was hiding, he found two white trees the voice mentioned. Between the trees, he found a small green door. He opened the door to see the passage. It was dark and small but big enough for a grown adult to bend their back and walk through. He walked along the passage until he arrived in a small room filled with dimly glowing crystals. As he entered the room, he heard light footsteps behind him. He hid himself by lying his back against the wall. A small boy entered the room right after Hernfelk hid himself. The boy was panting heavily and did not see Hernfelk. Hernfelk walked quietly behind the boy and put his hand on the boys face, covering boy's mouth and nose. The boy tried screamed but the sound did not come out of his mouth. After a couple minutes boy fainted and Hernfelk twisted his neck, breaking it. He hid the child in the corner of the room and waited for more people to come.

Like the boy, children entered the room a few minutes apart. Hernfelk broke their necks as they entered the room and piled their corpses in the corner. But he soon realized that piling them up was an inefficient way to use the bodies. He lay the bodies against the walls and them look like they were sitting down and taking a short break.

After killing eight children like that, he heard heavier footsteps. Adults were finally coming into the passage. This time, Hernfelk drew his dagger and slitted throats of adults as they entered the room. It was becoming harder to put the bodies against the walls as the room wasn't big enough to put all the bodies.

Hernfelk-"I should get out of here soon. Damn it. I wanted to kill every single one of them."

After killing the eighteenth fanatic to enter the room, Hernfelk decided to get out from the passage. He debated if he should go forward or backward but he wanted to check where the passage ended. He walked the dark passage for good ten minutes until he found another door. He opened the door and found himself in a building. It was the same building he beat Nefasto. When he walked out of the building, he could see the temple being attacked by catapults. People probably ran out of patience and decided to bury the fanatics along with the building.

Hernfelk-"I guess I will wait here just in case more fanatics come out."

As he set around the door (which looked like a manhole door) to the passage waiting for someone to come out.

After burying the last person to come out from the passage, Hernfelk went back to the temple. The temple was nothing more than a big burial site for fanatics. Some fanatics tried to escape by jumping from the third floor but they mostly died from the fall as soldiers pierced them while they were in the mid air.

Mary-"Where were you, Sir? You missed the best part. You should have seen how the temple collapsed."

Hernfelk-"Damn it. I missed that? Huh. I was hunting escaping fanatics. There was a hidden passage in the garden. I think I killed about twenty five."

Mary-"Be careful next time, Sir. Oh our next destination is Al Aquabah. Apparently Ibladeshi managed to retake the region. They somehow penetrated the local government there."

Hernfelk-"More fanatics to kill. Get our men ready. About time we get out of this hell hole. Hope we can find something decent to eat in Al Aquabah."

Instead of finding food, Hernfelk and his men found a horde of angry peasants as they arrived in the regoin. They fought peasants with hungry stomach and one of the men was killed by a peasant after falling from his horse.

Mary-"Sir. We are ordered to loot Al Aquabah. If you don't want to loot, I will just order our men to set up a camp here and send them to find some food."

Hernfelk-"No. We are going follow the order. But we are going to change the order a little bit. Send our men to smaller towns to burn, kill and rape. I am fine as long as cursed fanatics of Ibladesh die."

Mary-"Sir. Shouldn't we avoid killing peasants? If we corner them they will fight back."

Hernfelk-"Mary. Are you afraid of a few peasants with farming equipment? Those do not qualify as weapons. Just bust some skulls and they will scatter like chickens."

Mary-"... You have changed, Sir."

Hernfelk-"Yes. I know. In a good way. Now, go."

Mary-"Aye, Sir."

Mary ordered the men to get on their horses and rode off to outer villages. Hernfelk watched them as they disappeared over the horizon.

While his men were out killing peasants, Hernfelk wandered in a forest thoughtlessly. He promised himself he could kill fanatics to avenge Nick and people who killed Nick burned with the temple. Those who tried to escape were killed by him. But his hatred towards Ibladeshi did not fade one bit. Every peasant he encountered had the face of the fanatics he killed. He tried to act normal when his men were around but it was becoming hard to act cheerfully. Every day Nick appeared in his dream, clawing his way toward him with a trail of blood behind him. Crazy laughs of the fanatics were echoing around him, torturing him every minute.

When he killed the first child who entered the room in the secret passage, he felt an immense pleasure he never experienced before. More fanatics he killed, more intense the feeling became. Just thinking about the thought made his pants tighter. As he entered a smaller clearing in the forest, he saw two children crouched on the ground. They were gathering something, probably something to eat. When Hernfelk's horse neighed, children lifted their heads. Their eyes and Hernfelk's eyes met in the air. The children froze and helplessly watched as Hernfelk got off from his horse with his sword. Hernfelk smiled coldly and walked toward the children.

Hernfelk-"Don't worry. I won't hurt you two. I am lost and looking for a place to stay. Can you lead me to your house? Oh this sword? We are in the middle of a forest. Who knows what will jump out from the bush right? Here, do you want a ring? You can have it."

Hernfelk gently stroked one of the children in the head while giving the other one a ring he found after killing the last fanatic who tried to escape. The children looked at each other then nodded at each other.

Child with blue eyes-"Okay. Our house isn't too far from here. We had to move here to avoid those filthy Perdanese soldiers. They killed our grandparents. You are not from Perdan right?"

Hernfelk-"Of course not. I just killed a couple on my way here. I took that ring from one of them. Treasure it while you can."

Child with brown eyes-"What do you mean?"

Hernfelk-"Your parents will probably going to take the ring away."

Child with blue eyes-"Maybe I should hide it under my bed. Jol."

Jol-"Mom is going to beat you if you do that, Sartana. Just give it to her."

Hernfelk-"No need to fight over the ring. Maybe you can all share it with your mom."

While they were talking, they arrived in a small wooden cabin just outside of the forest. Before they left the forest, Hernfelk quickly broken Jol's neck and stabbed Sartana. Sartana's eyes widened in surprise but her eyes rolled over fairly quickly.

Hernfelk approached the cabin and opened the door quietly. There was a man and a woman sitting in a table near a fireplace. They looked puzzled to see Hernfelk but soon their eyes filled with terror. The man reached for his axe but Hernfelk threw a dagger and managed to hit him by his neck, killing the man almost instantly. When Hernfelk turned his head to find the woman. She was shivering in the corner with a pale face. Hernfelk slowly stood up and sheathed his sword.

Hernfelk-"You might look at me like I am some kind of a monster now but once we spend some time together, you will feel happier than anyone in this house. Don't worry about kids. I've already taken care of them. Let us enjoy our time together slowly."

Hernfelk returned to the camp with bloody hands. His men were puzzled but no one dared to ask him about what happened. When Hernfelk was about to enter his tent to take a nap, Mary stopped him.

Mary-"Sir. Uh... You might want to meet someone."

Hernfelk-"I am dead tired. Tell the person I will meet him later."

Mary-"Sir. He has waited two days already. I don't think-"

Hernfelk-"Damn it Mary. I said I am not going to see-"

Zakilevo-"Hernfelk?"

Hernfelk slowly turned his head to see his cousin. A middle aged man wearing a priest robe was glaring him coldly.

Hernfelk-"Zakilevo. Why are you here?"

Zakilevo-"Didn't you receive my letter? That is not important. What were you doing? You ordered your men to do the dirty work while you went on a killing spree?"

Hernfelk-"... It is none of your business."

Zakilevo-"I knew you were an idiot but I never thought you would become a trash. I heard Nick died. You tried to save a man and lost another instead. Were you blaming yourself or fanatics?"

Hernfelk-"Why would I blame myself when it was fanatics who killed Nick? It was THEM! I will kill them all! Every single bastard who calls himself Ibladeshi."

Zakilevo shook his head. He waited until Hernfelk could calm himself down.

Zakilevo-"You can never save everyone. Sometimes you have to choose which one to save and which one to abandon. Nick was only first of many to die under your command. More will die under your command in the future. It is how things work. You have to bury them and move on. If you can't even do that, you have no place on the battlefield. I lost half of the army while I was General of Sirion in Oroya because of my miscalculation. I had to bury six hundred that day and I moved on. You will never be able to command any army bigger than this if you go crazy over a friend."

Hernfelk-"...I need some time to think about this."

Zakilevo-"Yes. Think about it"

After Hernfelk disappeared to his tent, Zakilevo walked away from the campsite with Mary.

Mary-"Lord Zakilevo, will he be alright?"

Zakilevo-"Sir is fine, Mary. That is up to him. Watch him carefully. From now on, question him before he does anything stupid. You will get yourself killed if you follow more of his stupid orders. He needs a smart captain to help him think things through. Alright then. I am leaving now."

Mary-"Already, Sir?"

Zakilevo-"I only came to see how my cousin was doing. Take care of him Mary. I will pray the divines for him. Farewell."

After two hours, Hernfelk came out from his tent to order his men to pack their things.

Hernfelk-"We are moving out of Al Aquabah. Zakilevo is right. There is no point dwelling on the past. But I still need some time to think about the whole thing. It is better to do that in Ar Mosul while helping people there I think."

Mary-"Good idea, Sir. I will get the men ready fast."

His men moved quickly to leave Al Aquabah. They folded tents, saddled horses, and beat some peasants to get food out of them.

Mary-"We are ready to move, Sir. It will take 11 hours to get to Ar Mosul. If we move now, we should arrive there by tomorrow afternoon."

Hernfelk-"Perfect. Hmm. Is this all we have? Only five men left?"

Mary-"Yes, Sir. We lost some men while killing peasants. I told them to be careful but some got careless and dragged a couple women into a forest and was ambushed there."

Hernfelk-"Forget about those idiots. They lacked discipline. Did you bury them?"

Mary-"No, Sir. There were just too many peasants at the moment."

Hernfelk-"Good. Don't bother burying morons. Not worth it. Alright. Time to move. Everyone, to Ar Mosul!"

Hernfelk and his men were patrolling the outskirts of a small village in Ar Mosul. His men had to beat some peasants to show their places under the Perdanese rule. A middle aged man died from an extensive beating. Hernfelk knew none of his men were very happy about beating peasants but they did not have much choice.

Hernfelk-"Cheer up, people. If we did not win the war, we would have been the ones getting beat. Well for you people. Ibladesh would probably have nobles be executed for not converting."

Mary-"I know, Sir. But do we really have to be so ruthless? I mean we just beat a man to death."

Hernfelk-"He was trying to fight back with a rake, Mary. Can't tolerate any act of disobedience. Once we stabilize the region, we will show people mercy but we just can't do that right now."

Mary-"Sir. But we should at least avoid beating people in front of others."

Hernfelk-"Like I said. To subdue these peasants we have no choice but to be violent. I think we've patrolled the streets enough for today. Let's head back."

As they walked back to their camp, they passed through a small forest. When everyone was distracted thinking about what Hernfelk said, Hernfelk was hit by a stone. The stone hit Hernfelk's left forehead because he tilted his head down subconsciously to avoid the stone from hitting his left eye. A drop of blood fell from his forehead into his left eye. Mary ordered others to find whoever threw the stone while checking on Hernfelk.

Mary-"Sir. Are you okay?"

Hernfelk-"Damn it. Do you think I am okay? If I didn't tilt my head, I would have lost my eye!"

Mary-"Here, Sir. I will bandage your wound."

After a few minutes, Nora and Tom brought a child with them. The child was holding something in his hand.

Hernfelk-"Good job, both of you. Can't believe I almost lost my eye to a little motherless goat."

Mary-"Well you didn't lose your eye, Sir. What are you going to do with this child?"

Hernfelk-"Break his legs and arms then throw him back in the forest."

Mary-"But Sir. He is just a kid."

Hernfelk-"Look what he is holding, Mary. It is a sling. He is probably the son of that peasant who tried to fight back with his rake. His father in the morning ruined my lunch and now his son almost ruined my life. No mercy. If you won't do it, Mary, I will do it myself. I will cut his arms and legs."

Mary stood silently beside Hernfelk. Hernfelk fixed a glare on Mary until Tom and Eric told Hernfelk they would do the job. Tom straightened the child's arm and Eric hit the child's elbow with his wooden club. The child screamed with pain but Tom and Eric did not stop until they finished their job. After breaking all the extremities, they threw the child back in the forest where animals would find him easily.

Hernfelk-"Well done. Tom, Eric. I will remember to reward you both once we return to the capital. Now, back to the camp."
