Everlight

Upon return to the guest room after many hours of meetings, Alyssa would find Isana sleeping in a fresh green-and-white striped nightgown, hair tidily brushed and up in a loose bun. Under her fingers resting on the coverlet is a piece of parchment, unrolled so it can be read easily:

My darling Aly,

If you are reading this then I have failed in the bid to wait up for you, and fallen asleep before your arrival. I hope the day went well, dearheart, and look forward to standing up and giving you a proper (gentle) hug in the morning. Chance says it's alright.

Sweet dreams, ~Your dawnstar

P.S. If you wake me to collect the hug early, I won't tell.

Alyssa climbed the steps of the Imperator's tower. Her meeting with the King had gone way later than she was expecting. Though how could she have expected anything. Her mind raced again with thoughts of death. The King's words echoed in her mind. She crossed the threshold into the tower proper past the storage rooms and the barracks, and up the stairs towards the private quarters. I hope I am not too late. She thought as she nodded at the guard who had apparently relieved Dustiria and opened the door gently to the guest room.

The window was open letting in the starlight shining on a sleeping Isana Everlight. Alyssa's heart fluttered when she saw her darling lying peacefully. Astounding the ways she can melt my heart with purity. Her brow turned to curiousity as she spotted the little note her Dawnstar held loosely in her hand. Quietly she crossed the room and gingerly removed it from betwixt her love's fingers. She couldn't help but smile as she read the little note and bit her lip admiring the sleeping beauty as she considered the dilemma her partner had left her.

She slept so peacefully, and Alyssa already felt a little guilty about waking her up for her own selfish reasons. But the note implied she would not mind...

She let out a little exhale as she made up her mind, carefully undoing her sash and setting the Blade of the Imperator beside the bed, where she would normally keep her own true sword. Sitting down on the edge of the bed, she gently placed a hand on Isana's cheek admiring the warmth and softness, before moving the hand to her shoulder and giving it a little squeeze and a gentle nudge.

Isana looked up at her sleepily.

"I'm sorry my love, I wanted to hold you." She admitted. It was no lie, the comfort was needed as it often was. She gave a slight, playful smile. "You said you wouldn't tell."

Everlight

Isana was comfortably asleep, warm and far away in a dream when she felt a sensation, very real. There was a soft touch on her face, then her shoulder, more firmly.

“Mmm?” she cracked her eyes open in the silver-limned darkness to see a very familiar figure glowing softly in her white dress in the starlight.

"I'm sorry my love, I wanted to hold you." She admitted. It was no lie, the comfort was needed as it often was. She gave a slight, playful smile. "You said you wouldn't tell."

Isana’s heart soared.

“Aly…” she said softly, held in the spell of waking and the familiar presence of her love. She reached up to cover Alyssa’s hand on her shoulder with her own as she smiled sleepily. “I hoped you might wake me. It’s tomorrow now, right?” She looked side to side conspiratorially as though Chance might be watching from a corner, then bit her bottom lip in a grin as she began to feel more awake. “Help me with these blankets?”

Alyssa grinned back and helped her carefully lift the heavy wool aside. She held up a cautious hand.

Isana in her excitement had already swung one leg out and had been about to stand all at once, like usual. She relaxed her arms, peered up through dark lashes at Alyssa in an expression of pouty acquiescence, then slid her other leg out more slowly to sit on the side of the bed. So far, so good. She held out both hands and took her partner’s in her own, admiring how ethereal Alyssa looked, radiant in the starlight.

“Okay, one, two…” her feet touched the cold stone floor as she stood, and felt strange, like they had never felt floors before, “...oh!” She buckled slightly to ease the tingling in her feet, and felt Alyssa’s arms catch protectively around her. Isana looked up to see very concerned eyes.

“Just my feet, they forgot floors. Ribs are okay,” she assured softly with a sheepish smile.

Relief was palpable as Aly shook her head ruefully. Isana straightened slowly to her full height, just a hair taller than her love, and leaned slightly to touch a kiss to one starlit cheek before wrapping her up in an enthusiastic embrace. She felt Alyssa melt into it, arms wrapping gingerly around her back, and let her eyes drift closed in bliss.

Alyssa smiled at the light kiss on her face, and her darling's firm arms wrapped around her. She was warm in the cool stone room, her shoulders relaxed from their usual tense state, as Alyssa slid an arm around her partner's waist, pulling her body close, resting her other hand on Isana's broad strong shoulder as Alyssa nuzzled her cheek and placed a sweet kiss of her own upon Isana's jaw.

"Mmmm..." she purred contentedly as the two women held each other lovingly.

"I'm glad I decided to wake you."

She felt Isana's adorable chuckle rise up through her chest, ringing like a beautiful melody as it reached her ears. She felt her heartbeat close to hers, pounding in time alongside her own fluttering heart. Can we stay like this forever? She mused whimsically, radiating calm and warmth in the cool stone chamber. "I love you, Isana." She muttered softly as she nuzzled the darling woman in her arms. They stayed like that for several moments before Alyssa reluctantly pulled away from her cheek with a sincere look.

"I'm not keeping you up am I? Or may I stay a bit longer?"

Everlight

"I love you, Isana."

A tingling warmth thrilled through her at those words. Stronger than butterflies, it raced to the tips of her toes and fingers. The tension and uncertainty of the last few days scattered into the ether like a flock of sparrows into a storm wind. This love, this was beautiful truth.

Alyssa nuzzled her neck and caused more tingles to chase up behind Isana’s ears. She shivered into the arms that held her close. Alyssa’s skin against hers was warm like summer sunlight in the cool stillness of the tower.

Alyssa reluctantly pulled away from her cheek with a sincere look.

"I'm not keeping you up am I? Or may I stay a bit longer?"

Isana smiled and let her head fall all the way to one side, admiring her darling. She blinked languidly. Her eyes finely traced the familiar features with the same expression of setting eyes on their home after many years away. One hand lifted and gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind Alyssa’s ear then traced gently along her jawline. She sighed happily, and her smile deepened.

Slowly, deliberately, Isana straightened and pulled Alyssa closer. One arm nestled in her lower back, the other hand gently curved just below her ear, she gathered her love firmly against her good side. She tilted her own face forward and looked at Aly through dark lashes again, this time with a twinkle. Noses nearly touching, Isana paused. She felt Alyssa's breath dance across her face.

“You’re not keeping me up, dearest. You lift me up."

She leaned in and pressed her soft lips passionately, hotly, to Alyssa’s. She felt as Alyssa melted into the kiss, catching handfuls of Isana's nightgown to steady herself. Her whole body tingled, pulse roaring, senses awash with the woman she loved. Then Aly kissed back, and caught her lower lip playfully between teasing teeth. Time paused as the women clung to each other, bright shadows radiating heat as they twined in the dark.

Eventually they broke apart, breathless, only far enough to rest their foreheads together. Isana grinned as she panted. She opened her eyes to see Alyssa was smiling, and felt her heart soar again. She spoke just loud enough to be heard over their thrumming heartbeats.

"I love you too, Aly."

Kingsley

She was caught by surprise at the intensity of the kiss, but eagerly pressed her own lips passionately to her darling's. Their tongues danced lovingly around each other, as Alyssa grabbed her partner's nightgown to hold steady from the sudden rush of love she received from her. Her thoughts stopped completely. There was only Isana, herself, and the love between them, the growing flames burning more and more intensely, Isana's strong arm wrapped around her waist, their bodies pressed tightly together and their lips locked. Her heart raced as the fires of passion blazed for the woman holding her, her breath and Isana's becoming one in the kiss.

Stable as she held on to her partner, her grip on the gown released, her hands finding Isana's hips as their impassioned kiss continued, Alyssa playfully nipping at her lip between her teeth. It felt like forever the two held each other, their kiss long and loving. When finally they broke, Alyssa's head spun, out of breath and heart pounding in her chest against Isana's own. She suddenly became very aware of how thin ladies' nightgowns were typically made, as well as how little ladies' typically wore beneath them. As well she became very aware of where her hands had found, but found she could not bear to be any less close to this woman than she was.

Her breathing heavy, their foreheads resting together, their bodies held tightly to each other she could not help but smile at the sudden swell of passion between them.

"I love you too, Aly"

Nothing in the world mattered but her in this moment. She knew the words to be true but hearing the soft caring voice say aloud destroyed the last vestiges of uncertainty and sadness the she had been feeling. All that remained was the love between the two women in a bare guest room in the Imperator's Tower of Perdan City.

She did not know what to say after that, so instead she just leaned forward again, holding her hips and pressed her lips back to her partner's, with as much passion as Isana had given her.

"So..." She had settled on saying, with playful grin between heavy kisses. "I am... free to stay then?"

Everlight

Isana clung breathlessly to her love. Firm, warm hands anchored her hips as she spun in whirlwind emotions, lips afire with sensation. Alyssa’s voice drifted to her ears between kisses, husky and coy.

"So… I am... free to stay then?"

Isana lifted both hands to frame Alyssa’s face in the moonlight, caught her shining eyes for a long moment, then kissed her hard. She broke off the kiss and rumbled softly.

“Chance didn’t… say not to…”

An idea struck. She grinned and shifted her weight. One foot had ended up behind Alyssa’s as they held each other, and she leveraged it to tip her darling off-balance onto the edge of the bed.

“Ooh!” Alyssa exclaimed in surprise. Isana laughed aloud and perched gingerly beside her. She nuzzled Alyssa’s flushed cheek, then tucked her face into the warm corner between her love’s neck and shoulder and sighed with deep contentment.

“Please stay, love.” she asked softly, her hot breath tickling along Aly’s collarbone. “Your meeting with the King was long. It probably means you’ll be off somewhere tomorrow. Stay with me tonight.”

Kingsley

Stay with me tonight.

"Mhm..." Alyssa replied dumbly as the dark haired woman lay next to her, her breath hot against her neck, her body pressed tightly against her own. As her love nuzzled her neck, Alyssa admired her form in the moonlight, strong and feminine, she ran her hand across Isana's side, her darling purring in response, her own hand finding a comfortable resting place on Alyssa. The nuzzle turned into kisses, which found their way up her jaw and to Alyssa's lips, their breath becoming one as their tongues dashed around each other.

"Mmm... Darling..." Alyssa said hesitantly parting their lips. "Er... The dress..."

Isana had her at quite the disadvantage. The thin nightgown against the moonlight left little for Alyssa to imagine while she still wore the dress she met the King in. Fortunately Isana realized this at the same moment giggling a gentle laugh that to Alyssa was the sweetest song ever sung. "I'm sorry love, may have gotten a bit ahead" Isana said playfully, her hand tracing up Alyssa's leg, bringing her lips back to hers with a smoldering kiss.

Then she sat up on the edge of the bed, pulling Alyssa with her, motioning her up. Alyssa did so, standing near the edge of the bed and turning around as Isana unlaced the dress. Alyssa bit her lip in anticipation as the dress came loose, falling to floor around her, leaving her in nothing but the simple chemise she wore beneath. She stole a glance at Isana who looked up at her eagerly, as Alyssa shed her undergarment as well.

It revealed the three parallel marks across the top of her back, scarred into her flesh from years prior; alongside the even older mark on her shoulder. Alyssa turned around, at first somewhat awkwardly, before putting her hands behind her back at ease, and squaring her shoulders back proudly. There were more. A long cut just below her breast, a little 'x' shape had been sewn just above her hip. A deep cut across her belly had healed ugly. A thick hack healed upon her left side.

Alyssa began to say something, but was unable to even begin before Isana pulled her once more onto the bed and pressed her lips hungrily to hers.

Isana cuddled up closely as Alyssa caught her breath. Isana's warm breath on her neck, their legs intertwined Alyssa closed her eyes and exhaled.

"Mmm" her lover purred as Alyssa put her arm around her and rested her hand on Isana's hip, who rewarded her with a kiss on the neck. The meeting earlier began to creep its way back into her thoughts, when they were brushed away by the gentle touch of her partner as she traced the scar lines across Alyssa's body. The soft touch was a needed one, pulling her back into her bed from the thoughts that had hovered around her all afternoon.

" 'Sana..." She whispered contentedly, as the two women held each other intimately.

Everlight

“Darling. My Aly. My sky…” Isana murmured softly, as her fingers gently trailed patterns across Alyssa’s radiant skin in the moonlight.

She marveled at the bliss she felt. Her body was heavy melted caramel, her face an easy smile. She was tucked warm and safe into the hollow of Alyssa’s shoulder, just under her chin; her nose in easy nuzzling distance of neck and collarbone, and one hand free to wander the incredible curving landscape before her. Alyssa’s arm was curled behind her possessively, a warm band along her back. There is no better place in the realms than this, she thought as her gaze followed her fingertips.

So many scars… she traced each delicately, reverently, as her touch roamed; thankful that these were stories of the past that had been conquered, and pained for the hurt felt by her love in those past times. Her mind was awake despite the languor of her body, and she wondered at this history written in skin. Little detail was evident in the silver-grey moonlight. Whether they were all from one time, or some more distant, it was impossible to tell.

She reached her hand out along the bed and felt for the sheet, and tugged the cool fabric up over their braided legs against the chill of the night. Aly hmmed sleepily, and Isana felt the rumble as a purr against her cheek. She smiled and pressed a kiss to the purring warm chest, and grinned as that cued a single giggle.

“Not asleep yet, love?”

“Mmm.”

Isana traced her fingers down Aly’s sternum line, crossing one slim scar and following the edge of the angry one that decorated her belly. She ventured a soft question into the darkness.

“Aly-dear… I didn’t know you’d been wounded so… were these all from one battle?”

Kingsley

Alyssa frowned slightly at the mentions of her wounds. Each one a memory of pain and killing. Still the touch of their bare skin against each other, the warmth of their closeness, and the sweet softness in her voice made it tolerable But each a part of who I am, and who I wish to give to her. Her frown faded as she placed her free hand gently upon Isana's as she ran a gentle touch over the deep vicious scar across her stomach.

"No my darling." She said, leaning her head against her lover's. "A career's worth." And many more to go

Together they ran their fingers across it. Alyssa could not feel the touch upon the scar itself but she felt the roughly sewn cut against her finger, an ever-present reminder of the worst day of her life.

"Brive." Alyssa answered before the question could be asked. "I fell from my horse and killed 3 men just to get to my feet. The fourth jammed a spear into my stomach." The rest of the details filled in in her mind. She'd watched the scene play out a hundred times at least. But tonight was not the night to watch it again. Tonight was their night. That was over, and Isana was here right now. And very, very warm. "Dustiria saved my life that day. She pulled me from the battle and brought me to her healers. I owe her my life."

Taking Isana's hand, she gently led their fingers up her body, just below her breast. She turned her look from their hands to her love's eyes and smiled a slight wistful smile that quickly faded. "If you intend to lead an infantry charge, make sure your chestpiece fastened tight. Someone might slip a sword through the side if there's an opening. My first battle. Bescanon in fact. Just on the other side of the wall from where our castle lay." I led all of my men to their deaths that day went unsaid.

Alyssa grimaced a bit at the thought. "Ah... this is perhaps too heavy a subject for now. Most of these are just the grim fate of war. Though there is one with a happier story."

Isana raised her eyebrow intrigued. "Oh? Then tell me, My Lady of your feats of bravery!" She said perhaps only mostly in jest. That brought a playful smile back to Alyssa's face.

"Very well, my love." She answered with a chuckle. "I shall have you swooning!"

In a flash, Alyssa rolled over onto her, burying her nose in her lover's neck, placing a gentle kiss before leaning back and meeting her gaze, steadying herself against the bed with one hand, and taking Isana's hand in the other. Alyssa bit her lip as she took in her darling's pretty face and gentle chuckle at the sudden motion. She took Isana's hand and ran it across her shoulder, and over the square of her back, across three jagged parallel scars marred across her flesh.

"In a village called Whitewater," she began with as much mock showmanship as she could "deep in the heartlands of Perdan, as innocent a town as any other." She quickly dropped the theatrics unsure of how long she could keep them up in earnest and continued her story. "It was near my uncle's place, where I lived. I must have been sixteen... no almost seventeen. My birthday was a few weeks after my knighting. I was visiting on some business for my uncle, when I heard the village bells ringing. Monsters had rushed into the village, for Whitewater has only a handful of watchmen and no walls to protect it. A pack of gnoles had wandered in from the forests and made to rip apart the townspeople and devour them alive. I gathered what remained of the watch and grabbed a sword from the Aelderman's home and together we rushed in to defend their home. One came up from behind at me and I had no armour, thus..." She trailed off as Isana ran her hand across the claw mark on her back. "I would be its last victim however, I fought it off and killed it and together our little militia was victorious. For this Lord Benjamin offered me knighthood."

Alyssa set her forehead gently against her morning star's. "And thus my path began. And it led me right here, to you." A sweet look and a nuzzle quickly turned into a soft kiss. "A much happier tale..."

Alyssa set her forehead gently against her morning star's. "And thus my path began. And it led me right here, to you." A sweet look and a nuzzle quickly turned into a soft kiss. "A much happier tale..."

Isana lingered in the soft kiss with Alyssa, and when it parted as softly as it started, she smiled again.

"Happier indeed. I am thankful they are all in the past.” she agreed warmly. “Amantes, ut apes, vitam melitam exigunt."

Fair eyebrows raised slightly in question and surprise. The soft curve of Isana’s smiling lips reached up to brush Alyssa’s again, then her cheek, then the tip of her nose. Isana then sank back into the pillow to focus on those beautifully puzzled blue eyes and winked. She held her beloved's gaze meaningfully as she spoke.

“It means, ‘Lovers lead, like bees, a life as sweet as honey’. And it is exactly what I feel. This is the sweetest my life has ever been, Aly my love. I only love you more, the more you let me discover. Thank you.”

She brushed a long strand of dark hair out of her face and nuzzled up into the little hollow under Alyssa’s ear, earning a dancing laugh of delight. Beautiful. She nudged the performative blonde with a little twist of her hip, encouraging her to tip back onto the bed. Aly smiled as she let herself fall into Isana’s waiting arms, and the dark-haired knight gathered her close to use her strong archer's shoulder as a pillow. She stroked Aly’s hair softly and mmm’d in sleepy contentment as her darling settled warmly against her and draped an arm across her in the cool darkness.
