Itorunt at War!

Itorunt has broken away from its federation with Ibladesh and Yssaria today. King Lucian accompanied this announcement with his reasoning for his actions:

Itorunt cannot support the recent activities of Ibladesh in any way. Professing peace is one thing, sending messages implicity requesting aid is another. Preaching and the spirituality of the peasantry is one thing, inciting them to usurp their masters is another. We understand that the Church of Ibladesh wishes to protect its congregation, but by no stretch of the imagination can this include the demonization of any realm.

As most of you know, this is but one of a number of conflicts Ibladesh and Itorunt have had for some time. In the spirit of seeing our friendship endure, Itorunt was willing to wipe the slate clean. However, we cannot stand idly by any longer after this. If the priests of Ibladesh are content to preach sedition in foreign realms, what prevents them from doing so in mine against me, while hiding behind the mask of friendliness? While I doubt this, my confidence is shaken.

As such, I must remove Itorunt from the Southern Federation. It has been a long time coming, and perhaps its renewed existence was a fool's dream. I would hope for peace in our south, but I am not optimistic to that outcome.

Lucian Vincent
King of Itorunt

I wholeheartedly agree with him. Ibladesh has constantly demanded help of us, giving little in return. During our campaign against Kavamar (Avamar Selective and the Kalmar Islands), they actually bought food from them, giving our enemies gold during a time of war. Upon the destruction of these two realms, Ibladesh played host to many of the fugitives from the destroyed realm. We warned them that giving these former Kavamarians would bring nothing but trouble... I have a feeling they are not completely without blame in the current crisis between Ibladesh and Perdan.

After this speech, the king officially announced that Itorunt was withdrawing from the Southern Federation. Soon afterwards, messengers arrived stating that Ibladesh and Yssaria, the two remaining members, had declared war on our realm. Responding to these messengers, King Lucian made the following statement:

After so many wars, so much hardship and so much friendship, Ibladesh turns to war this easily? Deep down, I think a part of me expected it; there has been much 'if you are not with us, you are against us' from Ibladesh at times.

Et tu, Yssar? Despite our problems with Ibladesh, the friendship between Yssaria and Itorunt I thought had always been strong. It seems again, I was misguided, that Itorunt was not beloved enough that that friendship might have been spared, rather than so decidedly turning. I am sure this was not your intention, but this is your fact.

So be it. For death or glory, war will come.

Lucian Vincent
King of Itorunt

Sirion soon responded to the breaking of the SF and the declaration of war on Itorunt. Apparently Handow wanted to join in on the attacking of Itorunt - if not on its lands, on its honor.

Fellow rulers,

Sirion will not stand by and have one ally (Itorunt) blame two others (Ibladesh and Yssaria) for declaring war on them when it was Itorunts treaty breaking that caused the war. We will lower relations to Itorunt and continue to lower relations depending on Itorunts actions toward Ibladesh and Yssaria.

Sir Handow Meadowcrest
Prime Minister of Sirion

King Lucian issued a prompt reply to this insinuation.

This is unfair. I specifically told Eleran that I would not like to war Yssaria. I told him it was up to Perdan and Ibladesh to work things out. There was no expectation of this outcome now, or any of the other times our federation has been strained and Itorunt has considered leaving. But rather than that more peaceable outcome, we have straight out war so soon? The ink would not have dried before the response of war was returned to me. It was Itorunt that departed our federation, but it was Yssaria that decided to make war. Would you blame the left hand holding cheese from being cut when the right hand holds the knife?

Lucian Vincent
King of Itorunt

Itorunt does not desire war; she simply wants to escape a disadvantageous relationship. It was Ibladesh and Yssaria that declared war, not the other way around. We have shown loyalty to our federation members for this long, but the second we try to leave, they declare war. Not only this, but Sirion seems to feel that Itorunt is in the wrong for its actions and will most likely join in on the offensive against her. We hope that our other allies at least have the honor to stand with Itorunt on the side of justice.

It seems Yssaria apparently is trying to make up for its "mistake". Eleran now offers a renewed peace after his sudden declaration of war.

Yssaria has no reason to war Itorunt. We do not wish to war them. we currently have peace extended to them. Should they accept, we will see no conflict.

Respectfully,

Sir Eleran Perfect II
King of Yssaria

King Lucian replies to this insulting attempt at reconciliation.

Easy enough to say after you have already declared war! After such betrayal, yes betrayal, why would Itorunt want peace? Whatever Yssaria has ever done to deserve a peace has been swept away in a single act.

Lucian Vincent
King of Itorunt

We shall see how this all unfolds. The armies of the south must all now prepare for war.

An Escort for Gregor

...No, not that sort of "escort". Katsuyori Takeda, the current chancellor of Fontan in Gregor's apparent absence, announced to his fellow rulers today that Fontan would be sending a military group southward to bring Gregor back safely. It seems from the letter that he has repeatedly been incapacitated. Chancellor Katsuyori's announcement follows.

Greetings Fellow Rulers,

I hope all with well with everyone. The reason I write today is to inform you that Fontan will be sending an armed escort (approximately 4000 CS with 6 Fontanese nobles leading them) down south to retrieve Lord Gregor, our previous head of state who was incapacitated. The escort will be led by our very own Minister of Defense, Basilius Decimus.

Attempts have been made to retrieve Lord Gregor but have proven to be impossible at this point in time as Lord Gregor is still unfit to travel undefended.

The escort will depart from Krimml tomorrow at sunrise and will be passing through Light of Fountain, Yssaria, possibly Caligus, Ubent, Perdan and Ibladesh.

I would like to seek everyone's cooperation to not interfere with the escort party or the convoy of Lord Gregor if your armies or infiltrators happen to meet them. Fontan will also be taking serious measures if the escort or Lord Gregor's convoy is harmed in any way and we may even view it as an act of war.

On the same token, the escort have been briefed not to interfere with ANY situation regardless it be political, military, economical that arises during their travels that does not directly endanger their own or Lord Gregor's safety. If the escort do cause any problems that they should not have done so, they will be put to trial under Fontanese laws and Fontan will pay for any damages or reparations caused by such incidents.

Katsuyori Takeda
Chancellor of Fontan

We are still in the dark as to what could be delaying and incapacitating Lord Gregor, seeing as how Fontan is not at war with any realm and so it would be unlikely that any realm would be sending its infiltrators after him. In fact, Fontan officially has positive relations with every realm except Light of Fountain, with which it is neutral. Gregor has a mere 650 gold bounty on his head at the time of this writing, so we are left to wonder why exactly he might be having such trouble heading north, save for possibly the incompetence of any group originally tasked with escorting him.

War At Last?

Reports have reached the ears of the II that Perdan has lowered its relations with Ibladesh to netural. Could this be the precursor to the first real war in a long time?

Apparently this diplomatic action was caused by Ibladesh sending priests into the region of Beziers to stir up the population. Barzelli has stated that the priests are merely preaching, and that Ibladesh will not go to war with Perdan. In light of these events, Perdan has dropped relations to neutral, and hopes for a return to the status quo are not high. What will happen? Will war finally break out? Tensions have been running high throughout the continent of late regarding various issues, and without war to take out this unresolved anger, people are getting into fights with each other. There are reports of citizens of Beziers fighting each other, a few supporting Ibladesh while many favor Perdan. These tensions have reached the borders of Itorunt as well, many border peasants resorting to violent means to deal with each other. Similar occurrences are likely occurring in regions throughout the continent. Realms are beginning to align themselves on one side of the conflict or another, or even as a third party taking advantage of it. We have yet to see who will side with whom, though some alliances are already being formed. War seems to be on the horizon, and the tiniest spark may set it off. May Aulysia fight with us and protect the people of the good realms of the East Continent.

Another One

Yet another tournament has been announced, this one in Kazakh of Old Rancagua. King Dekion made an official announcement to his fellow rulers, instructing them to pass the message on to the nobles of their realm. The letter can be viewed below:

I want to officially invite all nobles of this continent to attend the grand tournament in Kazakh City. During this time of peace let all come welcome to feast, train, eat, drink, and converse with all who would attend.

There will be jousting and sword fighting with a prize of 500 gold to each of the 1st place finishers for sword and joust and a 2nd place prize of 200 gold each.

I hope to see some old and familiar faces in Kazakh as well as some new faces yet to become friends to Old Rancagua.

If you could please pass this to all in your realms, I look forward to having any and all attend.

Sir Dekion Flockhart
King of Old Rancagua

With rising tensions, this tournament may not see as high an attendance as those previous. I wish luck to those who attend, as I do not believe at this time that I will be attending. I have some business to take care of. May the best noble win.

A Unique Person

The Empire of Itorunt received today a first in people. Though there are many average commoners living in the realm who make up the majority of its population, today the first adventurer, Dana Tinsley, arrived in one of the ports of the realm. She seems to have made her way here from another continent, Beluaterra. We suspect it was not of her own free will, considering the chaos that is overrunning that faraway continent. It seems she belonged to a realm called Valentia. In any case, I am glad to welcome her to our fine realm and hope she brings us further honor.

Region Revolt and Rising Restlessness

The region of a federated ally recently changed hands, creating much worry and disturbance throughout the south of the continent. Beziers, a territory of Ibladesh, threw off its former rulers and decided it would be treated better with Perdan. The realm council had already noted its low loyalty to Ibladesh, but could do nothing about it. This sparked a chain of events and discussions among the rulers of Perdan, and Ibladesh, King Nightmare and Pontifex Barzelli, and King Lucian was inevitably dragged in. King Lucian made an announcement to the realm on the subject. Part of it is copied below.

Barzelli expects Beziers back. Nightmare isn't giving it back because Ibladesh was running it into the ground [a note was attached here, but could not be copied]. Barzelli's now running around shoring up support.

We have yet to see what will become of this... The council is still in discussion. Everything shall hopefully be for the best.

More Lordship Changes

Sir Ganimede the ghost recently gave up the lordship of the region of Itor Boss in light of a career change. In stepping down, he hinted as to the next lord. This next lord was none other than Epaminonda, his brother. We are sure Epaminonda will do well for the County of Ejarr Puutl and its people. He was first congratulated by Gothan, and mentioned him in the extremely short acceptance letter:

Thanks for your trust Lord Dal! I will make you very proud of Itor Boss.

Thanks Lord Gothan, I'm glad to have such a good neighbour.

Epaminonda Cranioduro
Count of Itor Boss

I, being the only writer right now, wish him and any other new region lords, past or future, good luck and hope this is the last of such resignations and disappearances for the time being.

...And Another New Lord

A replacement for Fortin, our new Duke of Semall, has been chosen. The new Count of Ejarr Puutl was announced today to be Faldain Pelgrim. Lady Alexandra D'Jera, Duchess of Itorunt, made this choice herself. Faldain, soon after being selected to fill the vacant lordship, thanked the realm in a brief acceptance letter:

I am stunned, out of the blue i got chosed to govern this important region of Itorunt. I am honoured you put so much trust in me and i will gladly take up the responsability.

Thank you.

Faldain Pelgrim Count of Ejarr Puutl

We wish him the best of luck in fulfilling his new responsibilities and hope he will serve his people and the glorious realm of Itorunt well in this new position. Other news is also brewing on the horizon, and we will bring you the latest developments as soon as they occur.

A Change of Rulers

A new straight-edged measuring device? Nope; Evangeline has stepped down from the position of Queen of Perdan. She made a quick mention of her reasons which follows.

It takes more honour and courage to not jealously guard your privileges and powers, but to share them and to allow other people the experience and privilege of responsibility. After 8 years as Queen of Perdan, it is someone else's turn.

Following her abdication, an election was held to determine the new ruler. The outcome of the election proved Nightmare Aroo, brother of our own Olorin, the winner. Upon his election, he made a short speech to his fellow rulers, which is copied below.

Greetings

I see lot of familiar faces.
I hope we will have interesting discussions.

Please do not hesitate to pass from Perdan City if you are nearby.
Ale is very good, and we can accompany it with a good discussion about politics.

Sir Nightmare Aroo
King of Perdan

He also addressed another statement directly to King Lucian, praising him and our realm:

Greetings Friends

Queen Evangeline spoke with great respect about you, and i agree since i have followed your political career to some extend (via Evangeline), your words and actions.

I wish that our relation between our realms continue to be honest and cooperative as it was till now.

Best Regards,

Sir Nightmare Aroo
King of Perdan

We are glad to see another friendly face in office, and hope the bonds of diplomacy as well as those of family bring our two realms closer together against any who may oppose us.

A New Duke and a Vacant Lordship

With Lady Valdid's inactivity of late, her whereabouts have become unknown once again. Hopefully she will be located soon. In any case, as a result, her position as Duchess of Semall had to be vacated. Our wise King Lucian has finally made a decision as to who shall be the next Duke of Semall. That person has turned out to be Fortin, the former Count of Ejarr Puutl. As some of our readers may know, Fortin lost the judge election to Ryndhal by a single vote, receiving 37 to Ryndhal's 38. Fortin made a short acceptance speech upon his appointment, excerpted below:

I thank you Klaxin and Olorin for your congratulations!

And of course, I thank King Lucian for this considerable honour. I will serve our capital city, Semall, to the best of my abilities. And yes, this makes me feel a bit better after losing that election ;-) (but naturally, no ill will towards our current Judge who won by a fair election).

As this is my first appointment as Duke, I welcome any and all suggestions! I will spend a great deal of time studying the city and my responsiblities to better serve Itorunt.

Fortin Wexler
Duke of Semall

I at the Itorunt Informer wish him congratulations and the very best. With his appointment, however, comes the vacancy of the countship of Ejarr Puutl. We shall see who is to become the next count of the region.

Another Tournament

A tournament was announced in Partora 9 days ago. The official announcement letter is copied below:

Tournament Announced
doombringer deathkiller, King of Caligus has announced a tournament of Joust and Swordfight to be held in Partora 9 days from now.
There will be a charge of 15 gold for every participant. The winner will be rewarded with 500 gold in addition to the honour and prestige that his victory will earn him. There will also be a reward of 100 gold for the second best.
All nobles of the continent are welcome on the tournament grounds on the day of this event. Make sure you announce your participation in time.

I then left for the tourney. This next tourney was fairly uneventful (well, the discussion wasn't as hostile as the previous one), other than the usual: Wezel calling for drinks from each person that showed off their skills and trying to woo the tavern owner's daughter.

A short exchange also followed between the universally-known Doc Primus, Duke of Oligarch, and Klaxin D'Saferate, new Baroness of Noritor. Doc had mentioned something of smoking and drinking:

Uncle Adrain's special blend is as good as Omskian beer. For those that remember Omks and drank the few boozes they had on the shelves, well, you'll know what i mean.

This is my special blend. This stuff makes most that smoke it insane...but this is what real Elves smoked at the founding of the Republic so long ago. Of all the ancients, I am the last one with life, and more than likely, I will take this secret to the grave. The stuff is too dangerous in the hands of the youth--and with Adrian marketing herbs of lesser quality, thus taking away the importance of them in ancient Elven customs.

DP

Klaxin then asked, "Ha Ha, are elves usually so long-winded? Or does that come with age too?" Doc took offense to this statement:

Klaxin,

Long winded? I will have to write a letter to your King urging him to implement a system of education that doesn't leave 'nobles' thinking that a few short sentences are "long winded."

Such a waste the mind can be if left untended...

DP

Klaxin then apologized somewhat:

Well spoken Doc,

I was merely trying to get a rise out of you to see how feisty an elf is in his old age. I meant no offense, just merely curious.

With Klaxin apologizing in her own way, the matter was concluded. The tournament in Partora then concluded. 178 nobles were present, having paid 15 gold each to get in. I lost round 2 in both events. In the sword, I beat Laicch of Ibladesh but lost to Khorn from Ubent. Veneron beat Epaminonda, both of our realm, in the 5th round, and Ethan and TK Jones got as far as the same round before losing. Veneron continued, beating William of LoF, but lost to Edvard the Deacon, a Yssarian, in the semifinal. Edvard beat Deuveuy of Ibladesh, who had advanced by wildcard, to win the tournament and receive 500 gold (Deuvuey received 100). In the joust, I beat Faldain of our own Itorunt (who claimed his horseshoes were untied - I'm not sure how that works) 3 sets to 0, then lost to Animius of OR. Saith, a realm-mate, beat Quake of Ibladesh hands down in the semifinal while TK Jones advanced through wildcard. The two met in an epic set of jousts in the final, Saith emerging the winner of all 3 and bringing much glory to our realm. Well, we'd be getting lots of glory anyway, since TK was also of our realm. Saith received 500 gold for his victory, and TK 100 for placing second. Anyway, everyone represented us well.

Most recently, just a bit of undead and monsters attacking; nothing to worry about too much. ...I think that's all the news I've been behind on reporting.

Position Changes and a Royal Visit

Lodius became inactive for a time after the tourney, and was removed from his position as Arch Priest. Ryndhal was then elected in his place, having the experience of a previous term in the same position. In addition, the lordship of Noritor was finally filled by Klaxin D'Saferate, who became the new Baroness of Noritor. My congratulations to both.

Gregor Relak, Chancellor of Fontan, also came down to Semall to visit and talk with the council. His discussions concluded, he returned to his own realm (or so we assume; who knows, he could have decided to go on a tour of the island).

--Ichigo

Discussions Continued

A certain young man was spotted at the tourney encouraging people to get drunk as well as singing in a drunken fashion. Also, Doc's Biatch Primus threatened Gauihu. He apparently refused to face her on Atamara because he was "important to Abington", and a certain person named Drago was mentioned by DBP. I believe the matter remains unresolved. Alexi, the judge of Fontan, and Renquest, now of Itorunt, traded insults, and both realms joined in the fun (as well as Perdan). I, as well as others, tried unsuccessfully to get the pointless drivel to stop.

The discussions having ended, the day of the actual tournament came. I defeated Finger of Light of Fountain, Teael of Old Rancagua, Sammael of Sirion (who I have befriended somewhat; seems people used to think he was a commoner), and Epimetheus and Terrence of our own glorious realm before losing to the esteemed Cartor. Muzhol (my first liege) and Ethan managed to make it to the 6th round with me, Ethan getting to the semifinal (even if on a wildcard). In the joust, I beat Reeve of Ibladesh hands down, but lost in the same fashion to our own Fortin. Roberto and Saith made a round 6 appearance, but Saith lost 2 sets to 1 to sinted of Ibladesh (having gotten to the semifinal also on a wildcard). More important results, however: aron of Perdan beat Blood from Ibladesh in swords, receiving 800 and 300 gold respectively. In the joust, Quake of Ibladesh beat sinted, his realm-mate, to receive the same respective amounts. Despite all the pointless discussion, it was an interesting tourney overall.

--Ichigo

Discussions at a Tournament

Well, I'll try to give you all a brief (or not-so-brief) summary of what went on at the last tourney (the one in Aix, Perdan). 213 troop leaders were there (all 11 realms were represented), each paying 20 gold to get in.

The first important discussion was regarding the never-created realm of New Coimbra. Sir Maelg Vallejo commented (after the exchange between Alexi - and other Fontanese nobles - and Itoruntians) that he was waiting for the realm of "New Coimbra" to be created in Westmoor as promised once upon a time by Fontan.

Adamson Estrall replied with the following:

My father was to be the king of the new realm, so I've been informed about some of the things related to that ever since his death. What I've been told is that the few Coimbrans remaining decided they do not want a realm of their own, they prefer to remain in Fontan... my father wasn't quite happy about that, he left the realm and the continent disappointed. New Coimbra was the dream of very few by then.

I'm not quite sure about the history behind New Coimbra (Coimbra ceased to exist before I joined the army, and I never understood the idea of a New Coimbra), but I have been able to gather some information on the former realm of Coimbra... The history (mostly recorded by a certain Adam Estrall...) seems to indicate that they were destroyed many years ago by the Perdan, the now-gone realm of Oligarch, and Fontan. Apparently, Fontanese armies arrived in Viseu on February 25, 2005, and declared war with the intention of taking Viseu the next day. The realm was destroyed 6 days later. I assume Fontan promised to create New Coimbra later on to avoid the wrath of other realms.

Anyway, Sir Maelg said Fontan didn't keep its promises and that the reason Fontan had said it needed a fourth city (Fontan) was to create New Coimbra. Cartor Curs, Arch Priest of Caligus, then implied that implied that Fontan had not been supportive and could have made the New Coimbrans feel that they shouldn't press the point. Helos Helron then said his father was the former king of Coimbra and current Duke of Westmoor, and could secede at any point if he wished. Since most of the East Island seems to take issue with the lack of an NC, he states that the majority of the continent would probably support Fontan keeping its promise by ensuring they left NC as it was.

Another interesting piece of information: Gauihu, the infamous former ruler and judge of Abington, Atamara, showed up at the tournament (apparently having left his former realm in chaos).

Apologies and a Firing

Well, first off, as usual, I want to apologize for the extreme lateness of this article. The month's almost over! However, in return, I have lots of news to report. I've been really busy.

The other bit of news in this article is the news that Thray has officially been removed from the staff of the Itorunt Informer. You may have noticed I already did this; however, this is my official announcement, since he hasn't said anything. I don't remember the last time he wrote an article, and warned him that he would be fired if he didn't write soon. Receiving no response, I removed him from the list. Not that it'll make much of a difference. Anyway, people are always welcome to join our ranks. Now to report on more pressing matters...
