News

More Changes

Following Alex's death, news was sent out that his brother, Gorch of Ibladesh, would be coming to bury him. In related news, following the death of High Marshal Alex, the search began for a new HM. Recently, King Lucian narrowed it down to two candidates: Wilfred, an experienced military leader, and myself. Both of us received much praise and support, but in the end, I decided to withdraw from the race, feeling I could use a little more experience before stepping up to the plate. I have not had as much direct control over the troops as Wilfred has, but I hope to do so in the future. My congratulations to Wilfred on the new position. Following this news, I have announced my new 2IC, Dal. My congratulations to him as well. In addition, our much expected capital move has been completed, and our new capital is Semall. It will take a few days for the peasants to adjust to the change, but they'll just have to deal with it.

Sadness

And within a day of two or such happy news, we have very sad news to report to you today. Alex, editor of this newspaper, former 2IC of my very own Division I and newly elected High Marshal of Itorunt, was killed in a battle against the Caligans in Igno around the rising of the sun today. The realm of Itorunt grieves for him, as do many troop leaders from around the continent who knew him. Such is the eventual fate of all heroes. Here is one scribe's short summary of the battle: Battle in Igno
Caligus vs. Itorunt, Yssaria
Estimated combat strengths: 3000 CS vs. 2000 CS
The hero Alex, High Marshal of Itorunt (Itorunt) was killed.
Attacker Victory!
The death of Alex, a true military genius, is quite a saddening loss to the army of Itorunt, but we shall continue on as Alex would have wanted us to. The search for a new second-in-command for Division I continues, but it is now joined by King Lucian's search for someone to replace Alex as High Marshal of Itorunt. High Marshal Alex, or "Lord High Constable" Alex as one of our TL's would have called him had he had the chance, will always live on in our hearts.
--Ichigo

Lots of Changes

Well, with our former High Marshal stepping down, the realm was in need of a new one. For this position, our very own editor, Alex, was chosen, with the support of many prominent nobles. All agree that he was a fine choice, and I personally send my congratulations to him. Robert was appointed Duke of Semall, and lords are being appointed for the formerly lordless regions, such as Salvatore for Zamor and Tear'el for Priotness, with a lord for Noritor yet to be chosen. I have regained the position of Marshal of the Army of Semall that I held before being captured, and I expect Thray to once again be appointed Marshal of the Army of Xavax. With Alex's promotion, the search for a new 2IC for Division I is on.
Oh, and there is little I need to say about the sorry state of the Caligan prisons.
--Ichigo

Catching up

Sorry folks, been a bit slack it keeping up with the news. I've been a bit busy lately in military matters.

The main piece of news I issued was two days ago. Robert Chadwick, Former Lord High Constable of Itorunt, former count of Zamor stepped down from his posiitions.

General stepped down Robert has stepped down from his General position. He has given the following reason: Fellow nobles, I am stepping down to make room for a younger and more attentive High Marshal. Peace with Perdan has suited me fine. We can look towards our new High Marshal to bring us victory over Caligus.

Local lord stepped down Robert has stepped down from his command position in Zamor. He has given the following reason: I am stepping down as Count of Zamor to make room for a new lord in Itorunt. It is with a heavy heart that I do step down from a province that I love so much. I hope to find someone who will take care of my former lands.

But this was for good cause. In recognitiopn of his faithful and undoubtedly loyal service to Itorunt, Robert was appointed the new Duke of Semall.

In recognition for services to Itorunt, I give our former High Marshal command over the whole duchy from whence he came. He served us well leading us on the front lines, and I am sure he will now do an equally fine job in his newer, less demanding position.

Look after Semall well, Robert. They waited a long time for you to return.

Sir Lucian
King of Itorunt

The editors of the Itorunt Informer agree that Lucian has made a great choice and congratulate Robert on his new position.

New Coimbra?

Apparently Fontan has a friend in a long dead realm called Coimbra, and they are now resurrecting them. Odd, I heard that is was Fontan who delivered the coup de grace to Coimbra in it's dying days. But whatever floats their boat. Here is a copy of the letter Gregor, chancellor of Fontan wished to be sent to everyone.

Lords and Ladies, Knights, and Noblemen and Noblewomen,
Please for a moment, lend me your ear for but a moment. The realm of Fontan, ancient democracy that she is, is holding a census of all Coimbrans still living at the request of the last known Coimbran of royal blood, Sartan Morningstar. Let the call go out, and bring word to Fontan of your heritage, for soon Fontan will fufill its ancient promise and form a New Coimbra. Spread this letter far and wide most noble peoples of the world, let none not have their opportunity to claim their ancient right. When Responding, please indicate your name, and the realm you currently call home so that the records can be as accurate as possible. ((If you could also include a player ID, or player name that'd be great too)). Send word fast as you can, and rejoice in Coimbra's rebirth!
~Gregor Relak, Chancellor of Fontan, Guardian of the House of Relak

Odder and odder. This editor has a copy of a letter from a certain Adam Estrall, the duke of Westmoor (a former Oligarchian city) claiming to be the future king of New Coimbra (henceforth referred to as NC). Found on the talk page of the final issue of the OO, written to Oligarchians, a copy is reproduced here:

"Ever wondered how Coimbrans felt while they were waiting for their capital to be assaulted by Oligarch, Perdan and Avamar? Now you know. And if Oligarch city was to be taken before Commonyr, you'd also have an idea as to what it feels like to sit in the countryside without troops for days, waiting for something to happen. I wish you all the best for the future, hope your new realm will ease your suffering. It never eased mine...

With high respect:

Sir Adam, former Coimbran soldier, friend of Tod, Duke of Westmoor, future king of the Kingdom of Coimbra"

Hmm. We will keep you updated.

Rebellion in Old Rancagua (yes, another one...)

Thanks to a very useful source that the II has, we have managed to get coverage of Old Rancagua's latest rebellion. Heres the details.

Rebellion!
Heel is calling for an uprising against the current government! In a passionate speech he said:
Time to clean up Old Rancagua from the dirt. This is the end of incompetent officials and nobles that care only for their individual plans.Dekion is a good and fair ruler but he is surrounded by poisonous snakes that don't care for Old Rancagua. Rats, Ebion, Ragnel, Johnny and even Fuinur will be the death of Old Rancagua if something is not done to stop their influence. I will risk my life to clean this place up.I don't intend to change anything else. Dekion is still my ruler but something must be done.True supporters of Old Rancagua, you that you care, join me and help Dekion clean the dirt!

Letter from Heel
Message sent to everyone in your realm (64 recipients)
I am terribly sorry about this but you have also seen what happens when we blindly follow the words of these incompetent snakes.

Voices of reason like Dekion's, High Guard's or Shina's can't be heared.

My commitement is that I will ban all the those that destroy Old Rancagua from within. Then I will step down to give the crown to Dekion again but in an Old Rancagua free of them.

I promise that if you join me no more bans will take place. If you stay neutral you will get away with a small fine and then, when the situation is stable again, the gold will be returned to you. I regret to say that if you join the loyalists (not Dekion, Dekion is the one I am loyal to but those I rebel against) you will be banned as well.

Thank you for your support

For Old Rancagua

Heel (Knight of Oroya)

It is believed that the king, Dekion, had nothing to do with this rebellion. This does, however, cast doubts on the stability of the Old Rancaguan leadership. The fact that the OR rebels would have been victorious had it not been for a freak of nature (OOC: really annoying bug) is an indication that evidently there is some discontent that should probably be quashed. Old Rancagua's stance and plan of action is not yet known.

Dekions speech before the declaration of war

In an attempt to keep things in this paper fair, neutral and balanced, the Itorunt Informer has recieved a copy of the speech issued to the rulers of the world shortly before war was declared by Old Rancagua.

No doubt when this goes public, there are some that will say Old Rancagua, and more specifically, me, has broken their word to the Kalmar Islands.

However, based on a realm wide vote Old Rancagua will be declaring war on the Kalmar Islands. There is not one specific person that inhabits the Kalmar Islands that is the reason for war, rather it is a large group of collective TL’s that my realm feels is a threat to all realms on the East Island.

Former terrorists, people involved with the rebellion in Old Rancagua, and also former TL’s of Avamar still hold great power in the realm of Kalmar. For those reasons, we cannot allow the threat of those TL’s to remain. It is our intention to eliminate those TL’s from the realm of Kalmar, and hopefully from the island. For those people that say Avamar is dead, I shall show you letters that prove Kalmar is a breeding ground for Avamar and its followers. Just ask and I shall send them to you.

Chancellor Prometheus has also been accused by several Old Rancaguan TL’s to now also being a threat to the safety of our realm. Those TL’s feel as though Prometheus is blinded to some of what is happening in his own realm. I believe he does not know the extent of what is happening and I do not believe that he is directly involved in any of the plotting being done by some other members of his realm. It pains me to go to war against one I consider a brother.

I think things would have been different had Prometheus been reinstated to power as the monarch of the Kalmar Islands, but alas he was not. It would be too easy for those TL’s that voted Prometheus into power to avoid war with Old Rancagua to vote back into power some other member of the realm. For this I must apologize to Prometheus even as I declare war.

Until the threat of certain TL’s is gone from Kalmar Islands and the East Continent, Old Rancagua will continue to war against Kalmar.

I send this announcement out early so that Chancellor Prometheus can prepare his realm for war. I would also ask that other realms stay out of this conflict as it is primarily between Old Rancagua and the Kalmar Islands.

On a final note to all rulers, if they have TL’s from the original Kalmar Islands that wish to be part of the fight to reclaim the islands, then they are invited to join Old Rancagua temporarily to help cleanse the islands and restore the old realm.

Lalakis speaks out against the war

This reporter was lucky enough to receive a copy of the speech made by Lalakis Abadonas, one-time ruler of Avamar, infamous rebel, and generally well known guy, from one of his sources. I would like to thank that person for continuing to support the progress of free press, and publicly say that I owe them a drink.

We enclose a copy here for you to make your own judgments.

Letter from Lalakis

Citizens of the Kalmarian Democracy, Citizens of the East Continent,

The state terrorism as expressed by the imperialistic realm of Old Rancagua, clearly aims to exterminate the peaceful people of Kalmar Islands, raze to the ground a Democratic realm, unprovokely destroy a multicultural and polyphonic society that only seeks for peace and maintains friendly relationships with most realms in the continent.

There is nothing to justify such a hideous and cowardish attack against the People of a sovereign realm that have attempted repeteadly to approach Old Rancgaguan leadership and establish a peaceful co-existence and co-operation taht could even lead to an alliance or even a federation.

The Kalmarian Governmnet have tried to accept every single condition enforced under the constant threat of war in order to achieve PEACE. Nothing worked...

Old Rancagua is thristy for blood of innocent women and children, thirsty for the blood of starving peasants and old men. They believe that they can utterly erradiacte the small social miracle that takes place in this small corner of the world.

But, alas, violence only brings more violence and gives birth to death and sorrow. It creates murderers and treats life -the ultimate gift- as a curse that must be dispelled.

The negative cultural background of a realm, the lack of moral values and virtuous principles, are activated in the People -especially in periods of moral crises- when the political leadership promotes violence as the ultimate social value, without facing the active and massive social resistance of the People which should express colletively an alternative set of moral values.

These are the gifts of the ruling powers of the Continent, in the name of a fake justice, in the name of the "human rights", in the name of the self-determination rights of the people... Corpses Everywhere.

Sir Lalakis (Knight of Chaos Temple)

Captured

My errands done, I headed to the front, being one of the first Itoruntians to arrive in Domus. My men fought bravely, sacrificing their lives for our great Empire (one survived). In a great clash involving Itorunt, Ibladesh, Yssaria, and Caligus... I was captured, and it seems my co-editor, Thray, is here as well. Hopefully, he and I will be released soon, but until then, I guess I can write about my first experience in the Caligan prisons... Anyway, in the battle, one admirable thing I noticed from the Caligans was their perfect formation, with infantry and mixed infantry in the front, archers behind them and a lone cavalry unit in the back. Good battle, lucky for them they had fortifications... At least the Caligans let me send articles from here...--Ichigo

Itorunt right outside Caligus

Today the Itoruntian forces hit straggler troops in Winkamus, driving the Caligans from the Yssarian region. Among the TL's that stayed to try and fight against the Itorunt forces was the Caligan general, son of patrick.

In a pathetic stand, the Caligans rallied in one line, facing a vastly superior Itorunt force in an act of brave (but stupid) defiance — sacrificing another 6 units to the Itorunt war machine and throwing yet more peasants lives away.

Many think that with the Caligans now stuck in their city with no way to force their way out, this is indeed the end. Time will tell, and updates can be found right here in the II. -- Alex

Army on the move

And what an army it is. An Itorunt of over 17,000 CS in one region (not counting surrounding regions, militia, bureaucrats or forces still recruiting) assembled and began marching out of Itorunt today towards the last obstacle in the way of true peace, the capital city of Caligus.

With a Yssarian force also gathering out of their capital city Hamadan, and rumours of an Ibladeshian detachment in Yssarian lands, many in Itorunt see this as the final hit against the enemy that has harassed our oldest ally for so long, and it is unlikely that there will be any saving grace from anywhere.

We at the Itorunt Informer will keep you updated with the true details as they emerge. --Alex

Long-Standing Judge of Itorunt Steps Down

A respected figure and dear friend of Itorunt has submitted his notice today. Ryndhal, judge of Itorunt for longer than many of us can remember, gave an announcement this afternoon that he would be leaving his positions as both Arch Priest of Itorunt and Duke of Semall. This follows a statement given four days ago informing the realm to prepare for his departure. Below is an excerpt from today's statement.

"It would seem to me, nobles of Itorunt, that the time I spoke of only a few days ago, is now upon me.

It is with sadness that I find myself leaving these positions I have held so dearly and proudly, but at the same time there is joy, for new people to add a new vigour to things, new energy...

...I do not leave the realm, merely take a seat further out of the bright lights.

I thank you all for making Itorunt the glorious realm that it is, my home and my life here is a great pleasure indeed.

All the best to all of those that are aiming for one of the positions I now vacate.

Sir Ryndhal
Arch Priest of Itorunt, Duke of Semall"

There has been an outpouring of well wishing for Ryndhal and gratitude for his fine service to the realm. The citizens of Semall are at this moment drinking and eating themselves stupid in their duke's honor. Ryndhal has suggested his protege, Lodius, for the newly vacated judge position. Lodius is inarguably Itorunt's most productive and reliable bureaucrat, and Ryndhal's endorsement has already garnered some support for his prospective replacement. Just when it seemed Lodius might turn out to be a shoo-in for the position, Garrick, the Baron of Dayr, announced his intentions to compete for the judgeship. Both men have issued lengthy and eloquent appeals for the judge's mantle. In addition, as Ryndhal stepped down today, Emanuel, one-time judge and king of Itorunt, announced himself as a possible third candidate. Most of the realm sees this as a win-win-win situation. --Thray

An argument made for the terms laid out by Yssaria

In their article of the 1st of August 2006, the editors of the Rampant Lion published an article about the terms of the surrender of Caligus to Yssarian forces, citing them as unfair to the Caligans.

However, this editor would like to explain his view on the terms. These terms are far from new; in fact, this paper covered terms of surrender with Caligus in a previous issue which included an interview that King Eleran was gracious enough to provide. The terms were essentially no different from what they are now; they demanded the regions currently sought by Yssaria, plus others that have since fallen under the banner of the Red Star by means of conquest. The difference is that at that point, Caligus was still ruled by the Queen Gwynyth Kazan who with Eleran shared a hatred of the opposing ruler, and at that time Light of Fountain was unheard of in the south. Hence, the region of Akesh Temple was under the control of Caligus and they were given the chance to surrender without killing themselves. These terms lay open for a long time.

It is hardly surprising, then, that the Yssarians, showing remarkable acceptance to the new King, who seized power not through a valid election but instead a bloody rebellion, did not change their views, or their terms. They offered the same terms; after all, what motivation would they have to change them? But by that time Caligus had already sold the region that could, and probably should have been their capital, Akesh Temple to the East Continents newest realm, Light of Fountain.

It is this editor's humble opinion, therefore, that the Caligans are the ones to blame here. Certainly, they can claim that the terms were unfair, but at the end of it all, it is themselves who made it unfair. Even forgetting that it was originally Caligus that made war alongside Ubent with Yssaria, they cannot deny that whatever noose they have around their neck now is their own fault.

Hence the Rampant Lion's claims that "it would be much better for Yssaria to offer Caligus a treaty that would allow them to survive as a realm, much like the Southern Federation did with Ubent" are met with far less sympathy with this editor, for they were already offered, and offered with even better terms than those given to Ubent!

I do believe that this is a comprehensive and full explanation and justification of my own views, and why I shall continue to support and be a part of the campaign against Caligus. If you have any queries, please leave them here. Thank you. --Alex

Peace with Perdan

It has been a long time in coming, but finally Perdan and Itorunt have signed a cease-fire and the claim on Clermont has been lifted. Reportedly other regions (Bisciye) will be handed over by Perdan to Itorunt to seal the deal and allow relations to be raised to peace. In return Itorunt will no longer attack and will not step in to the continuing war between Ibladesh and Perdan unless Ibladeshes very existence is threatened. It remains to be seen how long Ibladesh expects to go before they meet resistance.

With the claims lifted, WolfTamer, a noble of considerable repute in the past and Marshal of the army of Itorunt has been made Count of Clermont. --Alex

August, and some news

It's the new month and we have some major news to report. First off, the Perdan Capital, Partora, has been sacked for a full day by the forces of Fontan and Sirion, destroying the militia there and reportedly tearing down the strongholds outer fortifications and reducing it simply to the keep.

Ibladesh has refused to take peace with Perdan, reportedly striking into Bisciye. --Alex

Yay! (Semi-)Peace at last!
Being in prison sucks...
Congratulations to everyone on their new positions!
Noooooo!!!!!!! Alex!!!!!!!!!! Why?!?!?!?!?!

Thray's comments

Men and realms readily acknowledge that sacrifices must be made in war. Many fail to recognize, however, that sacrifices must also be made for peace. One who refuses to give over anything at all will never have rest.
