Olorin Leaves

Yes, it is true, Olorin, one of our best infiltrators and a good man, has departed the continent for the Colonies. Before his departure, he informed a select few nobles of his intentions and reasons. An excerpt from his letter follows:

I am afraid that my age does not allow me to be patient and wait for a war, and I also understand that we cannot get involved in a war just because I want to use my skills.

He then said that he hoped Itorunt would continue to be just. He was happy to be in Itorunt and that he met us, the nobles of this fine realm. Olorin will be missed. We wish him the best of luck and hope he returns in the future.

Duel to the Death

A duel to the death occurred recently between Morton of Light of Fountain (or so I believe) and Marshal Alois of the Army of Xavax. Alois was able to quickly defeat his opponent and put him down for good. When news of this reached the Itoruntian public, High Marshal Wilfred inquired as to the insult that sparked such a violent reaction. On the subject, Alois had this to say:

We were discussing politics at the Tourney in Slimbar. He threatened to "shove a dagger down the throat of anyone who didn't shut up." I gave him the opportunity.

He failed.

We, the nobles of Itorunt, are simply glad that Alois emerged safely from the duel.

One More

Yssaria held the most recent tournament here in Domus. I attended, practicing my swordfighting skills. In the sword, I beat Maria of OR in the first round but lost to Osric, a fellow Itoruntian, in the second. Deuvuey of Ibladesh emerged the winner, Guis'wa coming in second. I lost the first round of jousting in a close 2-to-1 match against Flamand from Sirion. Another Ibladeshian, sinted, was the joust champion, beating Andrei of Sirion. Much of the tournament proceedings were spent in silence, but to break up the monotony, I asked some attendees about the current state of affairs. On such short notice, only a few replied...

Shady (OR): I personally can't wait for Perdan and Old Rancagua to make a new realm on the islands again...mainly cause I am going to be ruler of the new realm but still hahaha.... Jen (Yssaria): Well Ichigo, I think it's great that almost all of the island is at peace. It can be a little boring sometimes but at least no one is dying. War sucks but at least we don't have to go through it right now. Cervantes (Yssaria): Well don't tournaments usually come before and after wars kick off?

Both Jen's and Cervantes' observations are certainly true, though I'm not so sure about Shady's. It has been a nice break from my lordly duties. If only the other editors would write, I wouldn't have so much work... Anyway, Lady Valdid managed to get to the sixth and quarterfinal round, an impressive feat and one expected of a lady of her skill, and lost to the well-known Doc's Biatch (also of Ibladesh). On the jousting side, Ryndhal managed an identical feat, though losing three jousts to none in the sixth round to the later champion, sinted. All in all, a fun and great tournament.

Another Tournament

Ibladesh held a tournament, ending yesterday. 143 troop leaders attended the tournament, representing nine out of the ten realms on the East Continent. Tobyas of Ibladesh edged out a win over Dame Siang from Yssaria to become the swordfighting champion. On the jousting side, Count Sceptre of Lorient, Ibladesh, gave a shutout win to Andrei from Sirion, losing 3 to 0. Representing our great realm, Count Fortin of Ejarr Puutl advanced as far as the fifth round in swordfighting before losing to Erkenbrandt from Ubent. Fortin advanced the farthest in the sword out of all of the Itoruntian participants, and reports that it is an apparent personal best as well. I wish the best of luck to everyone in future tournaments, and may the best man (or woman) win!

Also, at the tournament, it seems an argument broke out regarding the fall of Kavamar. The LoF-Fontan war came into discussion, and it was mentioned that several ex-Kavamar nobles ended up in LoF. Some nobles felt that the war was okay if that was the case, and others mentioned that several high-level Kavamarians had come to Ibladesh as well. Duke Robert warned Ibladesh of the dangers of harboring such people, but an Ibladeshian noble took this warning as a threat of war. Duke Robert then apologized, stating that his intentions were only for the best. Thankfully, the conflict was resolved

Emigration

Since I now own this newspaper, I get to decide what is reported. I am sad to announce the departure of my cousin Suzune for the island of Beluaterra. She said that she was heading for a realm called Old Grehk. May Aulysia protect her on her journey and ensure she arrives safely.

Tournament in Slimbar

This news is a few days old, but still news. A tournament of swords was held by the realm of Sirion in the region of Slimbar, taking place about two days ago. 186 troopleaders were reportedly in attendance there. After much fighting, Khorn of Ubent emerged victorious, Countess Seet Nisha of Winkamus (Yssaria) the runner-up. As in every tournament, lots of drinks were served and the attendees thoroughly enjoyed themselves, I'm sure.

First Takeover

The first region takeover of the Fontan-LoF war occurred yesterday. Having won the battles in An Najaf, Fontan has successfully taken over the region of An Najaf, increasing their total holdings to 16 regions. Many more region transfers are sure to occur before the end of this war. No other realms have entered this war as of yet due to the request that the war be limited to the two realms, but we will have to see.

Finally, War

War between Light of Fountain and Fontan has finally broken out! Two battles took place today in the regions of An Najaf and Viseu (both owned by Light of Fountain). Fontan easily won one, while Light of Fountain managed to win the other. A more detailed report of the two battles follows:

Huge Battle Fought
Rumours spread and tales are sung about a huge battle in An Najaf:
Fontan vs. Light of Fountain
Estimated combat strengths: 19000 CS vs. 7000 CS
Ulrich (Noble) (Light of Fountain) was captured by Fontan forces.
Duagloth (Noble) (Light of Fountain) was captured by Fontan forces.

Attacker Victory!

Huge Battle Fought
Rumours spread and tales are sung about a huge battle in Viseu:
Light of Fountain vs. Fontan
Estimated combat strengths: 8000 CS vs. 7000 CS
Lord Smoke (Knight of Al Amarah) (Fontan) was captured by Light of Fountain forces.

Attacker Victory!

From the size of each army, Fontan clearly has the advantage of numbers. However, we will have to wait and see how things turn out.

--Ichigo

Indeed, Fontan has the numbers edge, but we all knew that to begin with. The fact that they managed to lose a battle with such an edge makes me wonder. Wait and see indeed...

Foreign Relations

Rancaguan relations with Light of Fountain. He explained his reasoning in a letter to the other rulers of the continent. Some excerpts follow.

Today I have lowered relations to LoF to neutral.

I do not however want anyone to read anything into this other than the fact that to not do so would be me saying that Old Rancagua's war with Avamar Selective and Kalmar was meaningless.

LoF harbors many of the former TL's from the aforementioned realm and as such, I cannot allow OR to stand at peace with them.

Regardless of my personal feelings, I must do what is in the best interest of my realm, and neutrality right now is what is best. Lycastus and I fought side by side when he was the general of Fontan and I the general of Old Rancauga. He knows how I feel about him.

Also know that Old Rancagua has no intentions of entering the conflict between Fontan and Light of Fountain. If you have any other questions, please ask.

Also, Fontan and Light of Fountain forces have begun massing in preparation for conflict. War is not far.

Broken Peace

Gregor, the former ruler of Fontan, was recently voted out of office, being replaced by Lady Lilith, who also holds the position of Minister of Finance of the realm. As many of you may remember, Gregor had expressed worry about the upcoming elections, stating that he was going against the public flow in avoiding war. He was aware that war might have been in the future, but said that he hoped to avoid conflict in acquiring specific regions. Approximately a day ago, Lady Lilith was elected as the New Chancellor of Fontan. Only a short while earlier today, She declared that Fontan would be in a state of war with the realm of Light of Fountain. An excerpt from the accompanying letter follows.

Fontan as the betrayed mother realm will set in motion tonight what should already be done a year ago. Our nobles are sad to see a whole year of good gestures got abused and wasted by Lycastus, and we no longer hope to see this man can repent himself even a dozen of one year are given. A civil war between Fontan and the renegade can no longer be avoided as a result of the deeds from Lycastus himself. Any realm, kindly refrain from any forms of involvement - I have no wish to see a civil war be transformed into a continental turmoil. Fontan will settle this long-detained internal problem with its own strength.

Though Lilith expressed a desire for the war to be limited to the two realms, the involvement of other realms is still a possibility. The continent-wide peace following the fall of Kavamar has been broken, and the future of the East Continent is yet to be seen. One can only hope peace shall return swiftly.

Lordship

With the departure of several of our region lords, some positions have opened up for upcoming lords. Taking this into consideration, the gracious Duke Robert, a personal friend of mine and my liege of several years, appointed me as the Count of Zawr. I gladly took on this position, as it gave me another chance to put forth my best efforts toward helping the realm. Since I am no longer a marshal, I was chosen as a candidate for lordship (and I stated so, hehe). I will execute my position as lord to the best of my ability, and wish the best possible future upon the realm of Itorunt.
