Destroyed in Naraka

July 2

Last night, the armies of Heen and Vlaanderen were ordered to March to Naraka and fight with the undead that had been lurking around Reeds for a long time. With the new relations between Heen and the monsters, they were expected to join the two human realms in the fight against the undead. That evening was spent rallying troops, sorting out their equipment and making sure everyone knew the plan. They were to travel throughout the night and set upon the undead in the morning.

Dawn came and the monsters had not shown up. An army of almost 350 human forces with the odd monster thrown in faced 4 of the undead commanders, totalling 552 in force. Hannibal was seen with the Legendary Plate Mail of Strength and the Broken Mace of Suffering. Dohlor is wielded the Black Shield of Piety and Maldiciones has the Ancient Sabre of Daemonslaying. One the side of the allies, the Monster Loud Tongue had Ucdauh's Ring, but obviously against such opposition it wasn't enough.

The attackers were in wave formation, with three camel units charging forward first. They cleaved into the undead, but almost every single soldier was struck down from their camels and killed. Seeing this, the rest of the nobles rushed in to save them, but to no avail. Many leaders were wounded for both Heen and Vlaanderen. But in amongst the melee of that first charge, the undead leader Dominus had been wounded. The battle raged on, and at the final count 191 undead were destroyed, with all but 3 of the allied forces taken out. It was Thrydwulf's first loss as High Marshall. In total, 8 troop leaders were left wounded in Naraka, with the undead using the dead soldiers to replenish their numbers. They now head for Heen lands... Undead Advancing

July 2

Reports came in thick and fast this evening of an undead horde pillaging in Sotrebar, perilously close to our city of Latlan. Little is known about the group yet, as no scoutings have come back from the region. Hopefully they will remain in Sotrebar so that the Heenites can return to their capital and refit after they have recovered from their wounds.

Other reports have been sent to members of the realm from others indicating two other groups of undead heading into Heen territory. One undead group is marching towards Kif, possibly heading for Heen. Maldiciones was last spotted heading towards Watto from the battle in Naraka, possibly heading for Tahgalez.

As Queen Martana was injured in the battle in Naraka, the High Marshall Thrydwulf has been acting in her place. He spent most of the day in deep conversation with the undead General Hannibal. A few personal questions were asked and answered, and as a show of good faith, he claimed that they would not siege our cities, despite what it looks like. Can we trust their word?

Monster Madness

July 4

While the undead continue to encroach into the desert lands of Heen. The brave troop leaders, many still wounded from the massacre in Naraka attempt to return to Heen, and remove as much of the small groups of monsters/undead that have begun to accumulate in the lands.

The first few nobles have already reached Heen, and begun to find suitable soldiers for a unit. The recruitment centres will certainly be busy in the coming weeks. All the while, the monsters remain in persuit of the undead; hindering their advances deeper into the desert. While some of the monsters have proven to be of use, others in the vicinity - namely those in Aku are doing nothing but argue with each other about what they must do.

Many undead commanders have been spotted within Heen lands, with two more - including the undead Leader (Summoner) heading for Aku. If all the Heenite's can get back and rally a unit in the next couple of days, it is hoped that the undead will be driven from the desert.

Heenite's Hurting

July 12

An awful lot has taken place in the last week. Although it has been a struggle to find much to write about. A series of quite disasterous events have taken place in the realm of Heen since the last article, which wasn't great news in itself. The invasion on Beluaterra hasn't been good for any realms, but Sint and Heen appear to be having a rough time of it at the moment.

The undead General used a portal to jump 3 of his units right past the Heenite army still returning from Naraka, reappearing in the region Ling, which is one of the most strategic places within the realm - it being the link between the two big cities. This was an unprecedented movement, and unexpected also. It left the Heenites in a dire situation, but all was not lost (or so it seeemed).

It became clear that the undead were to assault a city, and as the majority of Heenites had trudged their way back to Heen city by now, it seemed that Latlan was their target. A brief message from hannibal claimed that their time to overthrow Martana was up, and the city would now be sacked. Heen immediately responded by gathering forces in Ling, bringing two monster units with them, and another approaching from Watersdown. As this was taking place, another group of undead, larger this time and said to be lead by the leader Dominus was spotted moving from Hirzmet to Kif.

At this point, Heen had amassed in the region of 13k CS in Ling, while the undead who had indeed assaulted Latlan - destroying almost all the militia in one turn were down to just over 8000. Heen city had 7k CS inside its level 5 walls, and Dominus (still moving to Kif) did not seem a threat. High Marshall Thrydwulf then gave Hannibal a choice: Move out of the city of Latlan, and engage their forces in Ling, or they would move from Ling to liberate Latlan themselves. The odds seemed promising, and Heen seemed safe.

Hannibal had other plans, and pulling a dirty trick (OOC: yeah we know you weren't allowed to do it whoever it was), Dominus with his unit of 6.3k used a portal to move to Ling and immediately set movement to Latlan - thus avoiding our forces (OOC: due to game mechanics...not realistic). This resulted in the fact that Latlan would then have almost 15k defending it, and the attack was called off. (OOC: player who plays undead also wrote a roleplay event exclaiming that our soldiers soiled themselves when they heard the ground shaking from all the undead soldiers passing through. This is wrong for two reasons: 1) because the Heenites/Monsters in Ling outnumbered the undead, and 2) because you cannot roleplay others actions...fundamental rule)

The four undead hordes then set about destroying builings, killing peasants in the hundreds and generally causing havok. It was at this point that perhaps the Heenite's should have attacked the undead, even though odds were now against them, as in the following days waiting in Ling, trying many tricks to lure the undead out of Latlan, thousands of peasants were killed. Finally the decision was made, to ignore the differences in size, as Latlan needed to be saved before it fell, and attack orders were given - especially as allied help and more monsters were on their way.

However, this also failed, despite the Heenite armies best efforts. Their orders were to misdirect to Sotrebar, and as late as possible change movement to attack Latlan and liberate it from the undead. Scouting parties were sent every few hours throughout the night, and 2 hours before day break the undead were still stationary within the city. A battle looked imminent. But no, mere seconds before the sun rose, the undead left the city - somehow passing by the Heenite army advancing on the walls; and as the sun rose, the Heenites strolled into the city to find the undead missing - having moved to Ling. (OOC: again, another annoying game mechanic that one person controlling many units means late turn movements with huge armies possible). The undead now numbered over 1000, with a strength of nearly 19k CS.

From this unfortunate event, it was clear that Heen was in danger, and the army immediately moved to Ling - accompanied by another monster unit that had made its way up from Reeds. The Heenite's were still outnumbered, but their will and determination was now spurred on by yet more insane tricks by the undead.

This evening, as the Heenite and Monster forces gathered in Ling once more, the Undead Army attacks the walls of Heen. For some strange reason, all the infantry and cavalry units charged out of the gates, leaving the walls useless. This editor puts it down to the fact that there were no Marshalls present to set formations as Fortification Deploy, but it is still rather weird. Almost all the militia were slain in a bloody battle, but despite the overwhelming odds, they did manage to cut down some 239 undead bodies. The full battle report is shown here: Heenite's Hurting.

Word has also reached the ears of some Heenites that a few other realms are glad that this travesty has happened, but we really know they are just glad it isn't happening to them. We shall wait and see what the future brings...

Hannibal's Had It

July 13

Finally the Heenite's have something to celebrate.
This morning, a vast army was seen approaching the walls of the Capital of Heen. The time had come for the Heenite's and the Undead to finally clash on the Heenite's terms. Thrydwulf had spotted Maldiciones still attempting to get into the walls during the night and ordered the attack while the undead were regrouping. As such, Maldiciones was out of formation with the rest.

Lead at the front by four strong monster groups, the Heenite's charged through the gates to engage the undead. Heavily outnumbered almost 2 to 1, the monsters engaged the undead, immediately wounding Hannibal, as the Infantry and Cavalry units of the Heenite's charged forwards. The cavalry charge hit at the same time as the infantry, dealing massive casualties to the army of the dark world. It was in this cavalry charge that Thrydwulf could be seen wounded, his camel standing beside a body, decapitated. Hannibal was dead, the ground stained forever with his dark blood.

After the initial charge, most of the attackers retreated early, saving themselves for an evening battle and surveyed the damage. With just fewer than 500 losses, they had taken out over half the undead army. Watching as the undead regrouped and began reviving dead from the field the Heenite's gathered themselves for another battle. With Hannibal gone, and two of his unique items lost, even the new undead recruits could not dampen the spirits of the Heenite's. The full battle report can be found here: Hannibal's Had It.

Thoughts and Sights

July 13

Many voices have been heard in the past days. Reflections upon battles, speeches before battles, memories of old friends, and visions of new one's. Here are some of the more recent and exciting one's:

Thyrdwulf Reflects

July 15

Much had happened over the last weekend. There had been many deaths and more casualties. In a brief respite after sending messengers to many different people, Thrydwulf took some time to reflect on the happenings of the last couple of days. His full roleplay can be found here: Thyrdwulf Reflects.

Hellish Hordes Harass Heen

July 15

The weekend has shown some horrible battles within the walls of Heen city. The defenders fight valliantly against extreme odds, giving all they have.

After Hannibal was killed, the undead decided to have a new spokes person - Dominus. After attempting in vain to scare the Heenites into succumbing to the same demands Hannibal had so poorly suggested to them, they revelled in the glory in having killed someone with so foul a tongue as Hannibal. This spurred them on to decimate the undead hordes in a ferocious battle:

With the heat of the battle over, the allies took stock of their position. The undead had been cut down to a very small numer, although with many losses for the Heenites and their allies.

Kagurati, Duke of Taghelez and Marshall of the First Army of Taghelez, was captured by the foul undead forces, and without the devastating charge of the camels of Heen's desert regions, the undead had a much better prospect, and suffered less casualties than the Heenite defenders.

Seamus, brother of Erin, of the Celts, was captured after his troop of only one archer was killed, but the troops of Heen inflicted more casualties on the undead and wounded another Undead Leader Maldiciones

A sad day for the alliance between the Monster Swarms and Heen. One of the monster leaders Hargresh was killed defending the Heenite Capital City, and another monster leader, Drool, was wounded. The monsters fought bravely for Heen over the last number of battles, and paid a high price. Vengence is a dish best served cold.

Heen is massively outnumber 2 to 1 in this battle, and it was reflected in the casualties suffered. The Heenites did not concede double the casualties of the undead, but it was not a long way from that amount. It is clear to see from this battle that Heen needs the support of its allies that it has supported many times before.

The Ramblings of A Dead Man

July 16

The last few days has shown the inadequacies of the undead leaders in regards to linguistics and logic. A few of the more ridiculous spoutings of Maldiciones and Dominus. The former spokesperson of the undead had his head chopped off by the High Marshall of Heen.

Medals Awarded!

July 30

As most of the talk between nobles of Heen had been rather depressing of late: be it missing loved ones from home, or talk of their lands being invaded so many times. The Queen's Council - a group of nobles the Queen can trust to think the best for Heen - have been talking about awarding medals to nobles who have shined particularly during the hard times.

It was decided that there would be three medals that could be awarded to Heenite nobles for various contributions.

  • The Desert Scimitar is for extraordinary and exceptional courage.
  • The Desert Cross is for continuous and unwavering support to the realm.
  • The Desert Rose is for the love of Heen in ways unique. It is the rarest Medal that can be given.

Three nobles have so far been awarded with a medal.

  • Scion the Skilled was awarded the Desert Rose, for achieving his goal of unifying the desert lands under one flag, ending the civil war with victory and an overall outstanding command of Heen during his reign.
  • Scott Koga was awarded the Desert Cross for his many investments into the realm, and for his commitment to providing military scouts when not asked. Heen is grateful for his efforts.
  • Thrydwulf Grancourt was also awarded the Desert Cross for his efforts to protect the realm of Heen during the undead invasion while the Queen and many other nobles were unable to aid.

These three nobles are an example to the way of Heen.

Daimon Update

July 30

The last week has seen one of the smaller Daimon hordes waltz through the lands of Heen. Thoroughly destroyed by the merciless undead, the Heenites were unable to raise a sufficient force to even attempt an assault on the Daimon horde, over 5000 in strength.

Commanded by Ethereal, the Daimon unit head straight for the already hurting city of Latlan, slipping between our monster defences due to a lack of cooperation between the monsters. Some moved to Naraka to hit the Daimons there, leaving Ethereal able to slip between our units. As the monsters retreated back to Latlan, chasing the Daimons they moved straight on to Ling and then Heen, pausing to trap a few nobles who didn't manage to get out of the gates in time. It was total annihilation.

Finally the monster units made it within reach of Heen, and when a battle seemed inevitable, Ethereal commanded his unit to Kif. The monsters are now chasing them North, as Sint is already a hive of Daimon activity this is not something Heen wnated to see.

Fines Demanded

July 30

When it was clear to the council that the Daimons were heading for Heen, orders were sent out to retreat to Hcallow. Instead some of the nobles took it upon themselves to stand and fight. This resulted in the massacre of almost all their soldiers are the claws of the Daimons, and a waste of Heenite gold. Arch Priest Attila fined 3 nobles who had definitely had the chance to follow orders and move out, yet failed to. Despite justification, nobles were somewhat unhappy. However, many lives could have been saved that were needlessly slaughtered in their "brave" attempt to fight.

Heenites For Humanity

July 31

Despite being destroyed by the Undead, the Heenites are still ready to show their willingness to preserve humanity - unlike their undead enemies. Once the Daimon group that had been plagueing Heen for over a week had been driven from the desert lands, the Monsters and a group of Heenite soldiers followed them North into Sint.

When the Heenites and Monster units got to the region of Porl in the far North, the weather was already cold - but made increasingly worse by the presence of the unearthly beings. The smoke and clouds from the very Northern regions of the Island could be seen for miles, but there was another threat closer at hand.

Having arrived close to the mountain regions of Sint, currently occupied by the Daimons, the scouts were sent out, and it was seen that a Daimon unit was heading to Porl. The Heenites and their monster comrades lined up and faught a brave battle, weakening the Daimons significantly. While arguments break out between realms alligned to the undead, the already defeated Heenites bravely battle on.

This is shown in the following report: Heenites For Humanity.

Festivities in Latlan

July 31

Ever since the Undead besieged the city of Latlan, its population has been in shock. Their morale suffered greatly and indeed the city was almost lost to the Heenites. A lot of hard work has been done in the recent weeks, although progress is slow.

It didn't help that all the paperwork was "lost" when Fror was captured by the Undead leaders during his attempts to stop the fould creatures from entering the city. This meant that whole new papers had to be drawn up before Queen Martana could reinstate him as the Duke of Latlan. This was a big annoyance for the realm.

However, various people have been working on the region, most noteably Attila has been holding courts, and Beatrice's 4 man police force have been patrolling the streets. Rumours have it that a festival has been announced for tomorrow, perhaps the people of Latlan will find something to cheer about!
