Dabug

Dabug Habap, a knight of Tucha in Falasan, is the former Duke of Stargard, capital of RedSpan, who served as the Royal Treasurer as well as a reporter for the RedSpan Revealer. He speaks freely, sometimes to his own detriment.

History

Early on, Dabug fought in a pair of battles for RedSpan before deciding that perhaps being a Trader would be a wiser choice. After trying that for awhile, he tried being a Beer-o-crat. That was highly amusing and he felt he was good at it. Now, he has returned to the Army as the clouds of war loom on the horizon.

He fancies himself a vintner, growing Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir and Grenache grapes in Meldeen. Unfortunately, he used his archers as winemakers in the most recent season and they mixed the Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir, thinking they were the same grape.

With so little money in the coffers of RedSpan and much confusion in its military, he figured trading sure couldn't be worse than the Army. His small escort, also named the Latvian Arms consisted of a dozen archers. He established a trade route between Stargard and Wayburg/Suville and expected it would keep him busy and amused for a while. He worked with Duchess Callisto Maximoff of Suville, Royal Treasurer of Abington, to coordinate his trading. With the sudden and unexpected retirement of King Manaydur and Treasurer Sir Eilt, RedSpan was in flux. After discussions with new King Tony and others, Dabug had high hopes. The new Treasurer, Namur, has helped Dabug considerably, allowing him to expand to three caravans and trade with many nearly starving Abingdon provinces.

When RedSpan regained Sullenport, he became a Beer-o-crat and helped re-integrate the city into the realm. With RedSpan reconfigured and healthy, he rejoined the Army just in time to hear the horns of war being blown by the mercenary realm, Darka. He served well in that capacity, but returned to Trading when he was appointed Royal Treasurer of RedSpan. The Loronzo affair.

Appointment as Duke of Stargard

A small crowd of lard-covered, stinky men and women, clad in assorted armor and appearing to be knights, lords, ladies and warriors of a proud realm gather in the center of Stargard, near a rather hideous statue. The noblest of them stands and speaks.

King Shamus O'Shea proclaims, "Though RedSpan is down, we are not done. Though our Duchess be in chains, our city is not fallen. Many have served RedSpan and many more shall, but among you, I must choose a new Duke. Many of you have known no home but RedSpan, as has this man. Many of you have served our realm in offices large and small, though he served as Treasurer at a time when we badly needed one who could be trusted. All of you have fought for the honour of Da One and Da Way, but he has been scarred for his fight. His honour is peerless, his sword at least somewhat mighty, his armor always larded and his stench ever gloriously profound. I give to you the new Duke of Stargard, Duke Dabug Habap!"

Smiling shyly, Dabug acends the small pile of rocks serving as the dias for the 'throne' of RedSpan. On bended knee, he dips his head and awaits the King. Most honoured King Shamus O'Shea, Deliverer from Destruction, Bearer of Da Great Goat's Wrath, sets a small duchal crown upon Dabug's head, taps each shoulder and announces, "By the power of Da Great One, I appoint you, Dabug, Duke of Stargard."

Rising, the new Duke addresses the small crowd as foreign guards begin to mill around the assembly, "Fellow Stargardians, RedSpaniards, Lords, Ladies, and assorted Lard-loving brassards,"

"I am greatly honoured to serve as Duke of RedSpan. RedSpan is all I have ever known and you, my comrades, are all I have ever loved. Today, we stand in the smoldering remnants of our capital and spit upon our oppressors. There is glory in RedSpan and you have earned it."

"I will raise my sword and mock the invaders, for they have no honour, deserve no glory and shall be accursed through out and beyond the end of my days."

"My name is Dabug Habap, Duke of Stargard, Follower of Da One, Keeper of Da Way, and I spit upon the desecrators of our lands!"

Duels

He was once wounded while losing a duel with Yavanna Galadeon for stating that he suspected she might be spying for her sister, Lavigna Galadeon, Arch Priestess of RedSpan's hated enemy, Darka.

He was again wounded during the occupation of Stargard in a duel to the death against Ceng Kwee. Despite his wounds, he stated publicly after the duel with Ceng Kwee that because Ceng honoured him by accepting the duel, that Ceng would always be welcome in the home of any in the Habap Family.

Skills

His leadership was once estimated at 25% and his trading skill at 20%.
