This was the last breakfast between Ferdinand Greybrook, Marcus Daubeny, Crymaria Hellsing and Saoirse MacArbin before the battle of Glongin.

Roleplay from Marcus Daubeny
Marcus sighed, Crymaria was taking a while to get dressed, he shouted back through the door "I will meet you in the great hall" Marcus made his way through the halls, many servants and guards stepped out of his way, he could faintly hear their murmuring, he saw the uncomfortable looks that sent his way, Marcus shook it off and entered the Greathall, he smiled as he had seen the table and chairs were brought as he requested the night before, he went over and sat at the chair near the head of the table, on the left side, he pulled out his book and began drawing strange symbols whilst he waited for the others to arrive.

Upon Marcus' invitation, the Grand Master entered the Greathall to meet his fellow nobles. As the servants bowed as he entered, he hoped the Count would not mind him forwarding the invitation also to Dame Saoirse.

After hearing the reports of Marcus' resurrection, it was quite a shock to see the man he used to know from his first arrival in Obia'Syela sitting at the table.

He had seen him die infront of his eyes.

The loud footsteps of the Grand Master echoed through the hall with the odd clang of metal armour banging against eachother as he walked, hoping Marcus would welcome him like times of old.

Crymaria settled some at the sight of Marcus before cheekily remarking "your chambers? My My what will the other nobles say?" At this point Marcus tossed a dress in her direction while muttering something about a fancy breakfast. She figured she owed her friends and fellow nobles that much if that is what they desired of her. After making sure the door was securely shut she set about donning the apparel she had been provided. This proved difficult for a multitude of reasons , not only was it significantly more complex than her comparatively practical attire but it also was not the best fit, being just a little too tight in certain aspects. These combined to make getting changed take significantly longer than it should have. By the time Crymaria had made everything fit (as well it could anyway) Marcus had long since left for the great Hall. Muttering a rather unlady like oath to the veiled goddess under her breath as she exited Marcus's chambers, ignoring the couple of less than hospitable glares from passing servants or clerical staff and made her way towards the great Hall, doing her best to not trip on the rather long trailing hem of this unfamiliar dress.

Marcus heard loud foot steps and metal clanging together, Marcus looked and saw Ferdinand approach, Marcus thought back to the last time he saw Ferdiand, it was when he ordered the retreat of the army and then turned to stand and by the other's time.

Marcus stood, and walked over "Good Morning your grace"

He then offered a wide grin and quickly closed the distance between him and Ferdinand, he engulfed Ferdinand in a hug "It is good to see you my friend he said" Quickly realising what e was doing Marcus released the Grand master "Begging your pardon my liege"

Crymaria made her way fairly cautiously (she was still not entirely used to what she was wearing) into the great Hall. Just in time to see Marcus embracing an armoured man she did not recognise. "am I interrupting something Marcus?" She said with her most dazzling smile on her face as she approached the table in the room. "to whom do I have the honour of addressing?"

Marcus offered a smile to Crymaria, he waved her over "Ferdinand, this is my good friend Crymaria, she is a Doctor from my home in Dwilight, she is from a old noble bloodline, only recently found her last name on the old records" Marcus looked back at her and gave her a smile "She has helped me greatly"

Roleplay from Crymaria Hellsing
After being introduced to the man before her, Ferdinand, and ensuring that she wouldn't trip on the ungainly hem of her borrow dress, stepped forward and offered her hand in greeting "pleasure to make your acquaintance Sir Ferdinand" and flashing her best smile at him.

Ferdinand was very pleased to see that Marcus was his usual self and still possessed his mischievous streak. Nevertheless, he wanted to explore what he experienced by going through his ordeal.

Before he could inquire, he was introduced to Dame Crymaria, a new noble whom had been rumoured to be very acquainted with the Count of Bolkenia. Based on his introduction, the Dame didn't seem to understand whom Ferdinand was. While he was not a stickler for titles, he thought it was best to reintroduce himself formally to the new Dame for the first time before sitting down:

"It is good to meet you face to face Dame Crymaria, as your Grand Master I do wish to meet as many nobles as I can in settings such as these rather than in war rooms or on the road."

Taking a once over the woman, Ferdinand saw the effort that she had made for this breakfast.

While Grand Master, he did miss the mark for some social subtle features. Waving his hand to dismiss the thought, Ferdinand then gestured for the nobles to sit down:

"I wish to talk through your ordeal Count Marcus. By Obeah's mercy she returned you to us, I wish to understand what you saw or felt. Did you feel Obeah's embrace?"

The Grand Master had not explored the theory of death in the Heralds so this could be ripe for new scripture on the sacred nature of life.

Marcus nodded and sat down, he pulled back out his book and opened it,

"An interesting subject, I have been trying to make sense of it all too, it was a interesting week, it was as if I was having fever dream, I would hear voices, seeing things I don't recognise, all the while I felt like I there was a presence with me"

He pointed to a sketch in his book which depicted a unfamiliar city burning "I have been trying to write down everything I heard, draw everything I saw" He tapped his forehead "I mean it's all up in there somewhere"

Ferdinand pulled the book closer to him across the table. Taking the book with two hands, the Grand Master inspected the drawing made by the former Grand Chancellor:

"This is particularly interesting... When I had lost my way after stepping down as Grand Templar, I too saw a city in my dreams or delusions. However, my city was already ruined, no living soul trod it's streets."

Putting the back down and leaning slightly back on the chair at the head of the table, Ferdinand pondered the meaning. It must be no coincidence that Marcus also had a similar vision as he. It is times like this he pondered the answer of the Oracle. Yet, since her departure, Ferdinand had to interpret Obeah's signs on his own:

"Did you feel... normal when you were resurrected? It is Obeah's gift that we were able to keep you in the mortal plane but she must have a cause for you..."

After drinking a mouthful of water from the prepared table for their breakfast, Ferdinand saw a potential clue:

"Sir Marcus, have you recently taken your Heraldic vows of priesthood? Tell me, have you sought isolation or scripture to find any semblance of meaning? There are some ancient texts in the vaults from both the Oracle herself and even once Royal Jessica foresaw, they could be linked to them? There might be a trend."
Ferdinand Greybrook

Roleplay from Marcus Daubeny
Marcus pondered things for a moment, slowly he nodded “It is strange that we both saw a city, do you think it was the same one” Marcus questioned

He then lost his smile and shook his head in negative “No Lord, I felt strange upon revival and besides looking different Obeah gave me one last vision, it was the clearest one”

He then pondered he choice of becoming a priest, “I took the robes recently after my pilgrimage to Keffa the choice was readily available, I partially made the change in my career so I might study my dreams and visions, read texts and figure out what it all means, the other reason is a bit more self centred, truthfully I have learnt that life can be fragile and fleeting, I wish to experience it more before I must go to Obeah again.

Marcus then thought again for a moment “I don’t seek isolation, though people either look at me with looks mistrusting, like they suspect I will suddenly turn around and strike at them or almost worshipful, like I have been sent from above by Obeah like a holy messenger or protector”

Marcus realising he just how serious he sounded shrugged and poured him self some morning wine to wet his throat and mouth which was a bit dry, he drank and put the glass down “But I will admit I have a thing for following trends, maybe I am unknowingly following in the Oracle’s footsteps”

Marcus looked back at Crymaria “Come, Doc, standing around like that I am sure isn’t comfortable, or do you doubt your ability to walk to the table and sit down? If you need I can carry you again” Marcus have a mischievous wink not unlike Crymaria’s own upon realising she was in Marcus’ chambers.

Roleplay from Crymaria Hellsing
Crymaria started slightly. She was a little stunned after such an introduction, The Grand Master, but she didn't think she had truly been absent for all that long.

"N-no of course not" she stammered before trying to hurry to join the others at the table, nearly tripping over the long hem of her dress and muttering a rather uncivil oath to the Veiled Goddess (something about the impracticality of having multiple layers to a skirt, not for the first time this morning). Finally managing to seat herself Crymaria suddenly realised whose company she was in, her face turning a shade of vermilion as if in an attempt to match her hair. "I-I'm so sorry your highness! Please forgive my rudeness." tumbling out of her mouth as hands shot up to cover her face.

Lowering her hands but still very flushed Crymaria looked quickly between the Grand Master and Marcus before trying to deflect at least a little of the attention away from herself

"So Marcus, I should have asked earlier but, what happened to your hair? Surely the ointment I gave you for your scars didn't react that poorly with you that it bleached your hair. Or is it just the stress of your new found position? I have heard of some fringe cases where those under a great deal of stress can go grey long before their time."
Crymaria Hellsing

Roleplay from Marcus Daubeny
Marcus laughed at Crymaria's crassness and then embarrassed nature, "It's fine Crymaria, I am sure the Grand Master has heard worse out of Antonia" Marcus shrugged at Crymaria's question"Hmmm, it was just like this when I came back, I think it's the side effects of the scroll and magic used to bring me back"
Marcus Daubeny

Roleplay from Crymaria Hellsing
"Bring you.... back" Crymaria began turning the words over in her mind , trying to process their meaning.

"Wait... you mean as in you DIED!" she slumped back into her seat to let the words sink in "well I suppose it all worked out for the best, you are still here after all." she muttered to herself before her curiosity got the better of her.

"Are you well? The magic that brought you back must have been quite potent, have there been any side effects besides the..." she motioned to Marcus's hair and eyes "obvious?"
Crymaria Hellsing

Roleplay from Marcus Daubeny
"Yes" Marcus nodded "I died"

Marcus thought "Besides the new hair, eyes and paler skin, I don't know"

Marcus shrugged "Who knows, I mean I keep getting those vision like dreams but that is about it"
Marcus Daubeny

Roleplay from Crymaria Hellsing
Crymaria shook her head at how casually Marcus was taking his own death.

"You will have to let me examine you at some point, it's rare to see the effects magic have on someone who has died and" she paused to think of the right word "got better?" Drawing herself back to both her seat since she had leaned in significantly to get a better view of Marcus after his statement. ahem

"soooo ummmm..." she waited nervously for the conversation to continue, doing her best to not make the conversation more awkward than she had already made it.

Roleplay from Saoirse MacArbin
Having finally finished attending to her troops and finding her way inside the Great Hall, Saoirse saw the Grand Master...And two other nobles, whom she did not know at all. She approached, somewhat hesitantly. She knew Ferdinand welcomed her. And...There had not been anything overtly hostile from anyone. But she had fought against some of these people, killed their troops. She was only grateful that she had realized her error before the battle that had slain that Hero, even though she had fought in the first round...When he was miraculously saved she had breathed quite the sigh of relief. She bowed, rather stiffly, eyes darting toward Ferdinand for guidance.
Saoirse MacArbin

Roleplay from Marcus Daubeny
Marcus heard some more footsteps and looked towards it source, his eyes widened as he recognised the person standing there, Saoirse MacArbin, the Novan he faced in the battle before the one that claimed his life, he scowled and sighed, he had received her letters, she was Obian now he turned his gaze away from the knight "Welcome Dame MacArbin, please, sit and enjoy breakfast"

He exhaled again and cast a his gaze back at her and smiled sincerely realising he was being needlessly cold "I insist"

Marcus perked up as he realised he had made a error, he turned back to the Dame and shook his head lightly "I am terribly sorry, My name is Marcus Daubeny, you would probably know me from my death, it is a pleasure to meet you"
Marcus Daubeny

Roleplay from Saoirse MacArbin
Saoirse winced a little at the initial scowl, and...Was confused at the smile. Which was how he really felt? Or was it both?

She started to gingerly sit, looking at the unfamiliar nobles...Until his introduction.

Well.

That explained the scowl, yes.

She replied, a little jittery.

"I...It is a pleasure to meet you under better circumstances, my lord. I...Consider it one of a number of minor miracles that the Grand Master convinced me to join before I participated in...That part of the battle. If..."

She fidgeted, her stress fairly visible.

"If there is anything I can do..."
Saoirse MacArbin

Roleplay from Marcus Daubeny
Marcus shook his and put his hand up "No, no Saoirse, you didn't take part in that fight, you were not the one who slaughtered my warriors, nor the one who ran me through, my blood did not wet you blade"

Marcus gave the young Dame a reassuring look "I assure you, you have nothing to apologise for"

Marcus chuckled "Besides I am here, alive and mostly well and you are here, a loyal servant of Obeah"

Marcus sighed "As all Novans should of been"

Marcus seemed to space out, his face a mask of barely hidden disappointment as he regarded his drawing of the burning city

"This shouldn't be the way things are"

Marcus blinked and realised he was bringing down the mood, he clapped his hands "I am famished, I haven't eaten since taking my long nap in a less then comfortable coffin"

He gave a wide and purposefully goofy grin trying to lighten the mood. "I am craving some crispy bacon"
Marcus Daubeny

Roleplay from Ferdinand Greybrook
Ferdinand gave the nobles he sat with a slight smile before losing himself in thought while Dame Saorise introduced herself.

This war had brought out sides of Ferdinand that he did not expect. The zeal that he expected to burned inside him was lit but was... moderated. Did he have to be better now? He had to write to foreign dignitaries than did not believe in Obeah and would usually slay on the spot or aggressively preach of their wrong doings. The difference Ferdinand made himself believe was that Heretics knew what they were doing was wrong by ignoring Obeah's mercy and evil Heathens brought the Daimon invasion closer every day by their misgivings. Yet, there is hope for those whom were merely misguided. The old Sir Krabat was a testament to a... strange... individual whom served Obeah but not directly.

Shaking himself back out of his trace, some servants brought out their breakfast, mostly grains and other substance with a portion of bacon to share. The bushel rations of the realm did not go unnoticed, not even by the nobility:

"Please help yourself to some food. Each day is a day we must serve Obeah to our best ability."

After muttering a small prayer to the Vielled Goddess, Ferdinand served himself a portion before continuing about the latest news in the realm:

"It is a great concern of mine that Countess Mariana is currently imprisoned by Nova. The Novan judge is excommunicated from the Heralds for his lack of loyalty and piety, I can only pray to Obeah that he will not sentence her..."

Ferdinand perhaps did not realise the significance of his comment when a courier burst through the door at pace and handed each noble at the table a letter. After hesitating, the courier delivered his final letter to Ferdinand, bowed apologetically before leaving...

Opening the seal, Ferdinand's face lost all emotion as he read the public execution notice...

Roleplay from Marcus Daubeny
Marcus sighed and nodded, “I haven’t seen Mariana in a long time, I hope for Nova’s sake that Mariana returns to us unharmed”

Marcus had put a slice of bread in his plate and put several rashers of bacon on it along with some other grains and a egg when he noticed the Grand Master’s look.

Marcus put his cutlery down “Ferdinand? What is it”
Marcus Daubeny

Roleplay from Ferdinand Greybrook
Ferdinand didn't really know how to react to the news. Was he angry? Of course he was. Yet, why did he not feel angry now? He always held some kind of emotion for the woman but could never really figure out what it was. It may even been love but it was too late now. Donning his military persona as his mechanism to deal with the news, Ferdinand replied in monotone:

"Countess Mariana of family Le Craint and of Bolkenia has just been executed by Nova."

Ferdinand didn't fancy eating anymore this morning.

Roleplay from Marcus Daubeny
It felt as if Marcus had been slapped,

He gasped and blinked, tears quickly forming in his eyes,

He snatched the letter from the table and skimmed it, all the while he shook his head and mumbled “no”

He dropped the letter and stood suddenly “Excuse me a moment”

Marcus briskly walked over to a adjacent room, empty of much except some old furniture, Marcus screamed incoherently in rage, he tossed the old furniture much of it breaking, he finally screamed something coherent “WHY, WHY OBEAH ABOVE, WHY HER, WHY NOT ME”

He felt something inside him crack, he fell to his knees and punched the ground, Marcus screamed one last time and then sobbed.

He stayed like this for a moment, his rage subsided, he returned to the table snatching a bottle of wine from a servant and then sat down.

He exhaled shakily “They will burn for this” he said his voice dripping with venom and hate.

He then began to drink heavily from the bottle of wine, he raised the half empty bottle “To Lady Mariana, may Obeah protect her”
Marcus Daubeny

Roleplay from Ferdinand Greybrook
Ferdinand heard the grief that came from the neighbouring room before the revived Sir Marcus was able to speak once more and joined the toast:

"To the Countess, may Obeah save her soul..."

After a couple of uneasy seconds and numerous mouthfuls of wine, the Grand Master took the initiative to change the topic of which he unfortunately brought up:

"Dame Saorise, your studies of the scriptures has been impressive since your arrival in Obia'Syela. Please share your thoughts with your fellow nobles."
Ferdinand Greybrook

Roleplay from Saoirse MacArbin
Saoirse stood stock still during the surprising news, and emotional reactions from the two men. She gripped the handle of her blade, wishing there was some foe she could gut, some blow she could turn aside. And when the Grand Master asked his question, her eyes widened. The Grand Master, in the presence of a living martyr of the faith, was asking her views? She had been still for too long, and the whirling wind in her mind that usually kept her from focusing was doing its job too well for her to think. She had to...She had to...

She began pacing, striding, moving, rapidly, back and forth across the hall. All who knew the basic forms would recognize her moving through a standard pattern, aside from not having a sword or shield in hand.

"Obeah is the Goddess of Magic. Our souls are the root of our ability to cast magic. Magic done in Her name helps weaken the barrier preventing her from coming to our aid. It then follows that the death of one dedicated to the Veiled Goddess must have some effect similar to the casting of magic, except...Greater."

Her arms began sketching shapes. Nothing quite comprehensible, but the frustration, the almost-there-but-not-quite nature of them drew the eye.

"Souls have inherent power, this is clear. But what happens to them? The idea of them dissipating, of being wasted...Is too heartbreaking to consider. So, then, what are the possibilities?"

She whirls, pacing faster, almost frenetically.

"One, they are consumed. This certainly seems possible, the tales of what Daimons would do, what the Light would do...But neither are present in these times, so set that aside. What else?"

She turns, eyes burning with intensity.

"I must believe that the soul has some agency. That what we do matters. So! What if...Our souls go where we wish them to be? Do what we wish them to do? What if...Each death in her name allows the soul to weaken the veil? What if...Each soul strengthens a star in the firmament? The veil is weakest at night, is it not? Obeah governs light, among her other dominions, so would not light in the darkness of the sky be a sign of a breach in the veil? What if we become the stars? And, perhaps..."

Her pacing slows, lost in this thought.

"Perhaps...The truly great souls...Become a new star on their death?"
Saoirse MacArbin

Roleplay from Crymaria Hellsing
Crymaria had sat fairly quietly since Marcus rather casual declaration that he had died, just taking in the simple peace that was being able to enjoy ones breakfast amongst friends, even as another person joined the little gathering. This Saoirse woman was now marching around the hall in some sort of pattern muttering to the nature of souls. Calmly palming the courier message that had caused all of this uproar and skimmed through it quickly , filing away the tragedy that had befallen this woman who seemed known to everyone in the room but herself. Trying to keep as sensitive as possible on the topic "Is it not possible that all of this is simply a piece of the goddesses plan? I've seen men and women who are otherwise healthy pass for no more discernable a reason that I can tell than the goddess called for them, or in some cases quite the opposite, surviving grevious injuries that should have by all right slain them outright."

Crymaria takes a breath after her rather simple anecdote before continuing "So to as it be an omen could the manifestation of a new star be, so to could it simply be a memorial for one who has served the goddess faithfully their whole life?" Although noticing how grim her comments had been lightened up "but who honestly knows? Very little is actually understood on the nature of souls and magic beyond their connection to the goddess, and even then my expertise lies more in the corporeal realm so I really am just speculating"

Taking a sigh she finished , raising her glass of water before her "should we not offer a toast to the life that was?"
Crymaria Hellsing
