Tharan's Gift

(Yavanna, Tharan's lover had argued for many days - and nights - with King Kronos of Carelia. It went back and forth, until finally they were brave enough to challenge each other to a duel. Whatever the result, Yavanna would leave the realm for good. In the end, Kronos took the final blow, leaving him severely wounded, but Yavanna could not bring it upon Carelia to kill him. Instead, she left to Ash Sea Islands, leaving Tharan alone...)

Laurie Sends a Gift

Laurie glances up at the door as a small messenger boy timidly walks into the room, knocking first.

As the boy approaches, he holds a parchment towards the noble, and shyly aims his eyes towards the floor. This was his first errand and he is keen to see how nobility works, and has head much about how busy the lords of regions tend to be.

Laurie takes the parchment from the boy, thanking him and telling him to wait there. He reads:

Lady Yavanna has left your realm. She swore an oath to the High Marshall of Ash Sea Islands not long ago. A Hero has gone...

As Laurie finishes the note, his first thoughts are for his old friend and past Liege, Sir Tharan.

"Boy, do you know the man they call Sir Tharan?"
The boy nods, without looking up at Laurie.
"Would you take something to him for me?"
Again, the boy nods.

Laurie searches around in his quill pot for the Quill, the lady Yavanna had given to him when he was appointed as Lord of Oyonnairre and sworehis region to belong to her Duchy - short lived though her reign was.

"Take this to Lord Tharan, and give him my condolences. You probably do not want to stay around too long...he might be a little emotional. Oh, and one other thing, do you know the thing they call Jahar?"
The boy looks up at Laurie and laughs openly "For sure mister. My mummy says he's gonna get a tan hiding from her if he ever shows his face in Nida again!"

Laurie laughs warmly, and hands the quill to the boy.
"Here is the Quill...whatever you do, DO NOT let Jahar anywhere near it!"

And with a smile, the boy leaves Laurie's office in Nida. Laurie looks out of the window to see the boy running down the streets and hopes Tharan will like the gift.

Jahar Answers the Door

It had been raining hard for a just while now… jahar had put on some gloves against the cold… A young boy – only just a piece of his hair was still dry - knocked at the door of the residence in Scarbran. After waiting some minutes, Jahar opened the door.

Jahar looked at the boy – now totally soaked - and he recognized his Coat of Arms; a servant of The Count of Oyonniarre...
Jahar took position at the opening of the door; leaving the boy no choice, other then standing in the teem with rain.

Jahar : ….. Ah, Welcome, little servant of Count Laurie…What did bring you here ??
Boy : …… Euh, I have to see Lord Tharan…
Jahar : ….. You Have To See..…OR YOU ASK ME PERMISSION TO SEE HIM ???
Boy : …… Euhhhh, Euuhhh, Are You The Terrible Jahar-Thing, My Lord…. ??
Jahar : ….. The Terri.…. Oh No, my big fellow, he is staying in the dungeons; nice cosy and warm and with a bone to chew one…

Boy : …… Euh, well then, I ask permission to see Lord Tharan.
Jahar : ….. ….Sir Lord Tharan…
Boy : …… Euh,… Sir Lord Tharan indeed, Sir…
Jahar : ….. He’s in Strombran for a very special meeting with the Senate and I am the one in charge now; so please tell me what’s the matter and I will tell Your Liege what a very good servant you are….
Boy : …… Euh….I have something for Sir Lord Tharan (* hands over a packet* ) , please take care of it and see to it tat it won’t touch the hands of Jahar…
Jahar : ….. (*looks at his gloves*) .. I could swear an oath to that, young fellow…

The Boy Returns

As Laurie was about to set off from Nida, to start the march back to Oyonnairre, he heard a timid knock on the door. Looking up, he saw a wet and bedraggled messenger boy shifting nervously from one foot to the other, dripping all over the floor. It was the messenger he had entrusted to deliver the Quill to Sir Tharan.

"Ah, that was remarkably quick young man! Here, have this gold piece i found while searching through some of my old boots. I don't know how it got there, so its probably not mine."
The body didn't move from the doorway, but just stood there shivering.
"Come now boy, don't be shy. How was the journey? However did you make it there and back in a day?!"
"Well sir, you see my mummy has always said that if you set out to do something with the right heart and the right attitude, then Evgenis will always help you along the way. So i decided to try and get the pretty feather thing from that lady girl to your important friend in Scarbran, and get back before it got dark. And it just so happens that as i was leaving your office mister, and running down the street - a cart came by. There must have been 12 horses on this cart, i have no idea how they manage to link them all together and move their legs in time so they don't trip up, but anyway. So there was this cart see- with the horses, and the man said that it was going all the way to Scarbran, and knew a shortcut. Well, i thought - why not. It was ever so bumpy mister, but i still managed to fall asleep. I don't know how i manage it. My mummy says i could sleep through anything, even Evgenis visiting...but i don't listen to her. Anyway, next thing i know is the man is stopping all 12 horses, and we are getting off the cart, and somehow we managed to get to Scarbran!"

Laurie sat there stunned...
"My Evgenis, do you EVER breathe?"
"Well mister, my mummy always says that..."
"yes yes, your mummy sounds like a nice lady, but tell me, did you deliver the quill?"
"Is that the feather thing mister?"
"mmhmm"
"well, see, your friend Faranz or whatever his name was, i forget wasn't there. But this man was, who insisted he wasn't that evil thing, he said he'd swear an oath that he wasn't, but i didn't get him too because he seemed nice enough. Not like the stories they tell about that snake man Jahar whatshisface. He told me he would give the parcel to your friend, so i left."
"Tell me, what did I ask you to do? Specifically?"
"You told me never to let Jahar get his hands on anything from you to your friend, and make sure it got to Tharan."
"And did you make sure it got to Tharan?"
"oh...well, mister...the man was so nice to me and all. I thought he would send the parcel on to Tharan. Oh no, that was Jahar wasn't it???"

Before Laurie could say anything, the boy placed the coin back into Laurie's boot and ran out of the door trying not to cry until he had ran far enough away.

Laurie sat down at his desk and began to write a note to Judge Garthon, enquiring on what he does with thieves. After this message, he then wrote another one to Tharan.
I think i'll deliver this one personally...he thought to himself.
