Arrival Back in Heen

(Thrydwulf arrives back in Heen City after a long and tough campaign travelling to the East and then to the South, before finally back to Heen. The journey involved many skirmishes, and the defence of the Vlaanderen Capital City. Here lies the account:)

The Campaign

Thrydwulf was back in Heen city after along campaign out in the field. First he had travelled all the way to the Capital of Ashborn to meet the rest of his army who had been in control of the city after he had needed to head back to Heen to refit. His good friends Jadine and Fror had accompanied him, and they had met up with the Heenite's in Zwering - clearing the path for the army on the way.

After a long and tiresome march up over the mountains in Ren Madragas, the Heenite's arrived in the bustling city of Reeds. The Capital of Vlaanderen were very happy to see the Heenites. Many friends greeted each other as the weary Heenites attempted to find places to stay while they were in the city.

The reason for the welcome was clear however, as the scout reports arrived in thick and fast that Plergoth were approaching from the South, having managed to slip past the Khthon army due to a mistake from their General Batman. Their forces numbered almost 10,000 in strength. However, Plergoth was not the only army marching towards Reeds. The Meshian soldiers had also been given orders to attack the city of Reeds in a pincer movement, with Plergoth from one side and Mesh from the other. They also numbered close to ten thousand strong.

As Plergoth and Mesh were spotted in the neighbouring regions of Haffamet and Bajit, the city of Reeds fell silent and purposeful. High Marshall Vigil and Thrydwulf had given orders out that morning, for the Archers to position themselves on the battlements and the Infantry to stand many rows deep before the gates. The Cavalry were hiding in the streets - four impressive units from Heen.

The dawn broke on a Saturday morning to the sound of the trumpets. The allies looked out onto the battlefield and saw almost 1200 enemy soldiers. They would be outnumbered almost 2:1, but they still had the walls. As the enemy approached the city, and the battle began, it was clear that even with the number of siege engines Plergoth and Mesh had, they would have a difficult job getting to the top of the battlements.

Thrydwulf, Fror, Jadine and Scott waited in the shadows of the city, the sun still not high enough in the sky to shine over the walls and watched as time after time, enemy units were thrown from the walls.

As the battle progressed, more and more enemy soldiers had climbed the towers, and a few of the gates were breached. Thrydwulf then gave the signal for the cavalry to charge. His camels leading the way, they swept towards the gates from the sides, the enemy unaware of their approach. As they neared the gates, the allies fell back slightly, confusing the Meshian and Plergothian soldiers. Not for long, for as they turned around they were struck to the ground under the hooves of the horses and feet of the camels.

The enemy began to retreat, and the cavalry chased them all the way out of the city grounds, and some, while the nobles inside the city mopped up the rest. During the charge, a mace had caught Thrydwulf on the side of the head, and knocked him off his camel. He came around in a healers tent, and spent the next two days recovering.

But now, he was finally back in Heen, where the atmosphere was much more relaxed. The warm desert sands beneath his feet, or the bustling activity in the market places of Tahgalez. This was where he wanted to be. As he passed into the council chambers in Heen city, he heard the bankers bustling around Sir Wolfgang's office shouting: "early taxes, early taxes?! do they realise tax collectors are hated!!!" and smiled to himself. Atleast it gives them something to do! He thought.

In the next office along, Sir Medium was browsing his laws, and contemplating some situation or other, while Martana in the next office could be heard relaying messages to various trusted scouts and messengers, and another voice he recognised. His old friend's sister Nikki. Knocking on the door to the chamber, he announced his presence and entered. Giving Nikki a quick greeting he placed some bonds onto the table for Queen Martana, and sat down in the chair beside her to wait for her to finish her business with the scouts.

"So my Queen...shall we talk business?"
