Gaston
Description
Many refer to Gaston as a glorified town. They are not to far off as there are towns on Dwilight that are more prosperous than Gaston, notably the nearby townsland of Under Darfix. What has set Gaston apart is her palace and her central location. The palace, now home to the duchal seat, is of a grandeur rarely seen outside of the richest of cities. The structure is made entirely of white sandstone, it's towers topped with golden domes. Many who come to Gaston from the south cannot help but compare it to the palace in Golden Farrow, the two are said to be almost identical. It is clear one is a replica of the other, though it is not known which is the original. This has lead to Gaston also being referenced as a miniature Golden Farrow, a name which does not hold up beyond the palace.
Gaston has long served as a center of trade. Located in the middle of the north of the western continent of Dwilight it sits dead in the middle of the trade route between Darfix and Gelene. Most of the city is dedicated to facilitating this trade, and its traders. Surrounded by rich farmland, Gaston has also served as a center of commerce to the people of these lands, making up the rest of the city's income.
Geography
Gaston sits at the southern end of the rich farmlands of the mid-north-west. To the north, west, and east are farmlands as far as the eye can see. To the south, over a strip of farmland, one can see the foothills of the beginning of the Dark Mountains.
History
Gaston was once the Western most tip of the great, but short lived Niselurian empire. In these times the surrounding regions were little more then wilderness. The fall of Niselur began with the loss of these lands. Allied Astrum was unable to send significant forces to assist against the threat of constant monster attack. After Niselur was abandoned completely its exiles joined Astrum and aided in a northward push to secure the lands of Gaston for the nobility and eventually a new realm for the exiles of Niselur.
Gaston is the former capital of Niselur, the reborn realm after King Leopold seized it from the previous King Turin, reclaiming the old namesake.
Gaston Zoo
Gaston has a small zoo. Built at the request of Duke Turin Erickson to increase tourism the main exhibit features a wild Unicorn. The deadly creature was captured along with other members of its herd during a battle in distant Ammando. Peasants, Adventurers and even nobles travel from far and wide to see the mighty beast.
In the centre of the Zoo sits a fountain, right by where the unicorn is kept.
