The Faewood Guard is an uncanny shield. A small buckler made of a strange, midnight black wood that looks as though it could never stand up to a good sword, it somehow always manages to deflect any blow (when used by a capable owner, of course). The eye tends to drift away from it, and opponents of the owner seem to have difficulty deciding where it is, and how it moves. The wood is covered with writing, in a language none have deciphered...And the strange lines make all who look upon it...Uneasy. The lines seem to twist and turn, flowing like water across the surface...But never when looked at directly. The colours too stay fixed when gazed upon...But take your glance away for a second, and they seem to change. But you have the oddest feeling that the writing never changes, merely your perception of the lines and colours, as if the writing were designed for eyes that saw the world differently...
