The facts for this article have been derived from the history of the Libero Empire, the article on the subject in the Dwilight Daily by Marshal Hericus Lefanis, and from interviews with Queen Alanya Costella, Royal Marshal Sejieda Vita, Archon Anabellium West, Lord Polemarch Bustoarsenzio Peristaltico, and Emperor Faolin Balad.

The Treaty of Stratford Closes the Libero Front

In the Summer of 9 YD (December 22nd, 2009), after a short but memorable season of fighting, the Libero Empire and Xinhai ended hostilities. It is a pivotal moment in this war as it leaves the Raivanlands without a guardian and Aquilegia without a tactical distraction.

After a group of Liberonians felt that the Allies were not fairly supporting the joint war effort, the realm decided that the war was no longer worth participating in. This became the sentiment after poorly coordinated defenses with the Raivalands, not surprisingly, led to fruitless efforts. The scattered planning led to an undefended Libero Empire and an attempted takeover of Stratford by Xinhai. At this point, the Liberonians finally realized their alleged “twin” was not worth its weight in dust. It is important to note for their motives that Aquilegia was unable to meet their expectations either. These circumstances convinced the Liberonians that their Allies betrayed them. More on the subject of the Libero Empire and the causes of the Treaty can be read in the chapter of their history titled “War of Allison.” Very shortly after the signing of the treaty, the Libero Empire repostured and declared war on their former allies, the Raivanlands. With the intention of regaining Mt. Black Nastrond, they marched for takeover. It was a uniquely rare move in which I applaud and support overwhelmingly.

The Xinhaittites are pleased with the end of this front and feel it will lead to friendly relations with their former enemy in the future. They see this treaty as a mutual decision to stop wasting resources. Hands of respect and admiration were shook at the end of the signing with high hopes gathered about.

The Aquilegions are saddened by the turn of events. However, they agree that the military coordination between the Allies was sorely infrequent leading to the strained Alliance.

With one front closed so quickly and its neighbour suffocating on its own ineptitude, how will the war end between the original belligerents? It is difficult to predict the end at this point as the facts thusfar leave many possibilities open. Perhaps diplomacy will sound the trumpets of ceasefire? Perhaps forced surrender? Whatever the case, the Treaty of Stratford is likely to be the most benign peace treaty signed in this war.
