Facts for this piece were provided by the Dwilight Daily’s article on the subject by Marshal Hericus Lefanis, Sir Greg Tarr’s thorough report for the Military Studies Department, "Battle in Bohai : Xinhai vs The Libero Empire," and a battle report I received from Lord Polemarch Bustoarsenzio Peristaltico.

The Battle of Bohai

On a calm Spring day in 8 YD (November 23rd, 2009) a huge battle occurred in the region of Bohai. Not since winter, after the Battle for Paisly, had Dwilight seen such a huge battle. The Battle of Bohai is second to the Battle for Paisly in size and scale, but while the superior led to the takeover of a city this battle could set the tone for the subsequent strategies and tactics of the belligerent realms. Will the Liberonians always be on the offensive? Or will the Xinhaittites turn the tide around and take the war to enemy lands?

Allied Liberonians and Raivanlanders launched a two pronged offensive into Xinhai territory. The weak lower realm attacked Nimh, while the Liberonians attempted to takeover Bohai. The armies of Xinhai were far south tied combating Aquilegia in Turbul and Fatexna when this invasion began and they had to cross the whole realm without delay.

The Liberonians and the Xinhaittites armies met for the very first time in the war on the battlefield of Bohai. Vice-Marshal Olin Kempe led the Guardians of the Empire in defence against the Austere Order, led by Marshal Hericus Lefanis, and the Order of the Maddening Star, led by Lord Polemarch Bustoarsenzio Peristaltico.

As archers and infantry clashed, life and death played the game of reaping and rescuing. By battle’s end, their play-date left the Liberonians defeated and the Xinhaittites victorious. Sir Gitaro Kobayashi of Cold Spring was the last Liberonian standing against the remaining force of Xinhai. Though Xinhai lost Nimh to an inferior lesser army, they defeated a real foe in Bohai. The first blood spilled between Libero Empire and Xinhai ends in favour of Xinhai.

As the armies continue to fight they will grow familiar with their opponent and begin to understand the minds of the enemy. The events are too young in this war, however, to determine which army is stronger, smarter or the likely victor.

While the Battle of Bohai was not decisive, it certainly is the beginning of a glorious combative competition between two long standing rivals. The next battles are guaranteed to be as remarkable as this one.
