Rumors

Of average build and fair complexion, one would not find Willy to stand out in the huddled masses of peasants. Said to have no tongue, he relies only on elementary written signs and gestures. Allegedly the bastard son of a noble, born of a mad whore, he is said to have wandered the Obsidian Islands in search of something.

Willy murdered his father Eoman after spending his adolescence in the Obsidian Islands. After sneaking deep into the lands of Perdan, killing a noble in Eldoret, he then fled southward into Armonia. It is in the region of Betholm (Armonia) that Willy saw the pursuing Eoric. He then went deep into the forest to live outside civilization. At least until it seemed safe to come out of hiding.

After almost a month, Willy emerged from the woods of Betholm covered in moss and dirt and wearing rags and hides. He started to wander the bordering regions of Perdan, and soon began to succumb to a blood-lust the monsters and undead of the region did not sate. After slaughtering innocents in Caligus and Sirion, he was caught in Westmoor and imprisoned. Before he could be executed, Willy escaped and continued a path of death in Eponllyn and again was imprisoned yet escaped. He then went back into hiding.

Tales arrive that a strange man wanders the streets of Semall. People talk of a scarred and scrawny wildman who was seen drifting out of the cursed desert valley of Dayr, babbling without words and jerking without apparent reason. None have heard an intelligible word from this figure, but rumors swirl of a madman who wandered that tainted valley for almost a year. It is believed the man in Semall is the same from the valley that none return from...

Reports arrive of murder in the lesser parts of Semall. Children, apparently without parent or kin, were slaughtered in the slums. The details you hear are grisly. The few things you do know for certain are that the heads were left intact, except for the tongues which were missing. That, and all other flesh was stripped from the bone. Dreams of small skeletons with tongueless heads haunt local's dreams that night.

Word of a string of murders in the Oc Lu Pesh. Fisherman, farmers, and even a few children seem to have been found dead. The details are grisly, but the gist you hear is that all have something in common. No tongues were found, and the bodies were carved up with ancient runes. The only identifiable markings is on a fair maiden...the words "Chaos Reigns" etched into her flesh.

Members of the Dishman home in Elderoet approach many houses, telling them that the teenage boy "Emeric" seems to have gone missing. They ask that if he turns up, to send him home.

Screams emanate from the outskirts of the Chaos Temple for hours. What starts as one, rises into a crescendo of horror with dozens being added to the wailing. It seems more and more add to the cacophony, but without warning all is silent. Not just a quietening of the screams, but an eerie silence from nearby wildlife and even the wind seems still. It seems to pierce locals ears worse than the howls.

Willy had traveled far. From the mainland of the Obsidian Islands, through the wasteland islands, and through the heart of Perdan he had journeyed in search of the monster. Many monsters had been felled by his battered short sword...but not the one who had taken his tongue. The monster that had been in every dream, every waking memory. The only clear memory he had, really. He couldn't remember his childhood in Perdan. He scarcely remembered his adolescence in the Obsidian Islands. Yet the memory of THAT day was clear and always present. The day he lost his mother, his tongue, and his mind.

His mother was having one of her worse days. Raving on about one of the men that had frequented her bed. This one she claimed was his father. Not the only one, but the one that made her most delusional. Even at the age of 10 he knew that a noble would never take him and his mother in. She was a mad whore and he was nothing more than a street urchin. Actually going to see this man she called his father only emphasized her madness. Her madness only emphasized little Willy's dread.

She dragged him to Eldoret. Quite far from the slums of Partora where they scraped by. Babbling and screeching about a handsome and noble man who had paid her promptly and said she was the finest women he had ever taken. A man she had seen only once but knew would remember her. He doubted any memory of his mother would be found in a noble, especially a decade old memory of a night with a whore. None of her other patrons (or fathers, as she liked to call them) remembered her, but he dared not say it. Her wrath could lay him up for weeks, and serious injury this far from there hovel could end up very bad for him. If this had been a journey with one of his orphan friends, or even by himself, he probably would have liked it. Yet it was when they reached the manor of House Dishman that he knew there could be no joy.

It had all happened so fast. His mother had cooed at the retainers patrolling the land. The head of the house, a man called Eoman, had been called out by the friendly servants. He strode out smelling of wine and harder spirits. When his mother had proclaimed that she was his wife and that this was their son, Willy hadn't been surprised to see him strike her. He hadn't even been surprised when his mother started cursing the noble. It had surprised him, though, when Eoman drew his sword and struck her down.

Splattered with his mothers blood, all Willy had been able to do was cry. His mother had been hard to deal with, but seeing her slain had broken him worse than she could have done herself. He picked up where his mothers tongue had left off, cursing the cruel noble like a sailor. Eoman beat him to the ground but couldn't stop him from cursing. Willy was sure he would die, but instead Eoman kneeled down and took out a dagger. Grabbing Willy's tongue, Eoman had cut it off in one drunken swipe. It was then that Willy had gathered enough sense (or shock) to run.

With the memory of that night, Willy hung in a tree outside the Dishman manor. Willy would take down a monster this night. The only monster that really mattered.

Once lights began to flicker out, Willy slunk down a creek towards the house. Quietly he waited each time he heard the near presence of a guard or retainer to pass. The patrols seemed pitiful. Distracted by monster hordes in neighboring regions, or short handed by their sons military pursuits, Willy had no clue. It was enough that the gods blessed madmen with good fortune for one night.

It was hard climbing to the master bedroom. Slow waits in the shadows when any noise was within earshot, as well as futile peeks into windows of servants quarters. It was when he reached the top floor, hanging by sharp edges of the masonry that Willy saw what he sought. Eoman, old and fat after the 10 years since Willy had seen him, was sleeping alone. Alone....the monster was alone!

Willy broke the latches on the window slowly. Eoman didn't even stir. Nor did he stir when Willy slinked across the floor, stood above his bed, and plunged his short sword into the hold mans chest. Eoman's eyes did open, shocked as a cut pig, but no breath could escape the pierced lung. It was when Willy removed the sword and proceeded to cut out Eoman's tongue that Eoman gurgled his last efforts.

His monster was dead. Willy would have laughed if the cold rage didn't still beat in his heart. Now all that was left was to flee. Flee before any other monsters caught whiff of him.

Willy slunk among the brush, the barest tone of a lullaby seeping from his toothless grin. He was ecstatic and covered in blood. The blood of 3 different families. 9 human tongues hung from his belt, some of them very small.

He had wandered into Viseu, looking for a prime spot to hunt. The monsters and undead had become boring. Their screams and cries were too inarticulate. Here in the outlying lands of Caligus, there were huts with cottars that could speak and sing. He so loved to hear innocence sing. He had emerged from Betholm with only one trophy. He would leave Viseu with many.

Guards reach the nobles Jehovah, Helios, and Derrick, telling tales of butchery. In two outlying farmer's huts, entire families had been gutted and stripped of skin with their tongues cut out. Other murder's had been found as well, including a chamber maid for the Lord Helios' estate. There were a few signs of who committed these atrocities, the guards said. One, was a trail that lead north into Sirion, another a strange note. The note was scrawled in a child-like hand and simply said "Wily wuz ear"

Willy looked at the present he had left to the people of Commonyr. An alleyway tucked away from the busy inns and markets, now filled with the disconnected parts of a local school teacher. A woman, now scattered across the lonely alley, would be found within the day...her tongue, however, would not. He slinked from the shadows and brush near the town and hastened to continue on his path. His belt of talkers was growing fat...he hummed his lullaby with glee.

The local guards of Commonyr send you a message of atrocities in Commonyr. A woman butchered, some animals stolen, and strange insulting notes spread through the inns of Commonyr. He brings you one such note, reading "Wily wuz ear, preties shuld fear, tis town ha shyte beer an its lords ave fat reers". He tells you it is from a man the locals have dubbed "The Mad Mute". Apparently rumors of his work have spread through the peasantry.

Roleplay From Willy Message sent from Westmoor and Eponllyn Prison

The guards bring you word that the mute has escaped. Although they cannot say how, what they do tell you chills your bones. Through their shaken explanation, they tell you that when they arrived to the jail cell that all they found was a bloody ruin spread across the walls. No trace of Willy, the head guard, or any indication of what happened. The most disturbing evidence they say, is a message seemingly burnt into the walls of the cell. JARBOSH LIVES.

The scribes cannot find much information on this 'Jarbosh1'. They can only find information linking him to the volcanic eruption and rumors of evil.

Willy slunked through the streets of Semall. So many pretties, so much that his hands itched. The ancient tome in his backpack seemed to burn as well. So close, so close! Just a ways further, and all would burn. Fire and blood, Jarbosh would see the world cleansed in red....grow from ash. All he had to do was continue his divine quest. Appease the shrine....appease the devil...

After turning into an area with an unnamed estate, he found the slums. Yes...YES....quarry could be found in the slums. Easy blood for his first stalk. No more insect, no more scorpions....the desert had shown him how to survive. The living could only sustain by feeding off the living. Blood to make blood, flesh to build flesh. It was the way of the world...the way of chaos.

Making his way into a narrow alley, he waited in shadows. After hours, a group of street urchins made their way through. They were but children, dirty and innocent. Could Jarbosh mean to give him such treats? Obscured from their vision, they never saw the quickness of the shortsword. Four fell, almost unaware of the pain in the sudden violence. Their screams were masked by the bustle of the slums. Even the ripping sounds were masked by the hum of a busy street.

Aye, it was getting close. Willy took his trophies and his sacrament from the lands of Armonia with glee. All the lands of East Continent had been bled. There was only one thing left...

Roleplay From Willy Message sent to everyone in region ?

You are approached by members of the Dishman home in Elderoet, who tell you that the teenage boy "Emeric" seems to have gone missing. They ask that if he turns up, to send him home.

Willy thrashed the bag once again. If the scrawny mut didn't stop struggling, he'd drop snakes in the bag and let the boy struggle himself asleep. To think, that the boy would go fishing accompanied by only a few retainers. Those two tongues were nice, but the boy's tongue could be more useful still attached. Chaos called, and Willy followed...

Willy carried his prize-sack around the guarded areas of the Chaos Temple. He had come full circle, as he had been told. The land he had come to after fleeing had become the land he had fled and come to. He had left with little more than the old book, he came back with what the book demanded of him. Sneaking into a hidden cave in the worst of the blasted land, he found the true temple of Chaos.

It seems to pierce your ears worse than the howls.

A single figure emerges from the cave. It wanders out of the lands and into the sea, leaving a trail of blood in its wake. The trail goes deep into the cave, where a single stone altar stands. Around the altar are pages from some ancient tome, each page pinned with a human tongue. On the alter is the skinned and flayed corpse of a man. Although the body is torn apart, the only place that seems to not have been freshly defiled is his tongue, which seemed to have been taken long ago.
