General Notes About Temples

All the temples are built to accommodate the worshipers of all three gods. Of course, size restricts and as such, the smaller temples offer very little in distinction between the three gods. The larger temples have more room and can thus offer space that is more focused on each individual god. There is an example blueprint of a normal level 3 temple. Larger temples have a bit more area dedicated to the altar rooms, smaller ones have less and do not have the study/sleeping/education areas. Larger temples can also have a basement/catacomb level (level 4 temples, stairs located in the purification area) and a second floor for the study/sleeping/education areas (level 5 temples, stairs located in the entrance hall). More detailed descriptions will be told here a bit later.

Even the smallest temple is built out of black stone that is mined and cut from the area of Mnt. Sinclair, Winser, Bisquez and Bitana. The small temples are not built as well as the large ones, thus they are often referred to as shacks. They also have less in the way of decorations and religious relics.

Note: The level 3 temple image is used in describing all the rest of the temple sizes. It's suggested you make yourself familiar with the picture and the rooms and areas described there. So basically start reading from the level 3 temple description :) Level 3 temple layout

Temple Types

The places of worship often vary in size.

Small Shack (Level 1)

Basically consists of the entrance hall and the purification area. The entrance hall holds the purification ingredients and the purification area has altars for all of the three gods.

A small shack does not have the staircase, but it does have the two fires on each side of the main entrance.

Primitive Temple (Level 2)

A primitive temple consists of the entrance hall, purification room and the individual altar rooms for all three gods. Though the rooms are smaller in size than they would be in a level three temple, the form is there for easy expansion into a level 3 and larger temple.

A primitive temple does not have the staircase, but it does have the two fires on each side of the main entrance.

Small Temple (Level 3)

The temple is built so that its main level is above the ground, thus the staircase leading up to the entrance hall. The two circles around the main doors are large metal stands that hold a large cup like plate that holds a large fire. The flames are always kept burning as they are guardians from Sigrid to keep away the unwanted spirits of Brigith and Sigund. The black stone building has a tiled roof, with a dome like structure above the purification area.

Entrance hall

The entrance hall holds a few benches for the weary travelers. There is also a round fireplace in the middle to offer warmth and light to the whole room.

Purification area

The purification area holds three cups, sitting on black stone pedestals, in front of each entrance to the altar areas.

  • The cup in front of Sigrid's altar area has a fire burning in it.
  • The cup in front of Lodril's altar area has white, fine grained sand in it.
  • The cup in front of Darka's altar area has ash in it.

Before entering the altar room, Sigrid's worshipers run their hands quickly through the flames, to purify themselves. Lodril's followers wash their hands in the white sand and Darka's followers rub ash on their hands to achieve the same thing. The area also has some benches and chairs for the elderly to accommodate them for any line that might form during sermons.

Sigrid's altar room

The rounds thing on the picture is Sigrid's altar, a large cauldron of fire. The room has benches to accommodate worshipers and there is also a pedestal for a priest from which to hold sermon. There might also be religious objects that relate to Sigrid hung on the walls.

The worshipers are free to bring small sacrifices (chicken etc.) and throw them in the cauldron for Sigrid to consume.

Lodril's altar room

The large square in the picture is Lodril's altar. It is carved out of a large piece of black stone. It has a smooth, flat surface in all directions. The room has benches to accommodate worshipers and there is also a pedestal for a priest from which to hold sermon. There might also be religious objects that relate to Lodril standing next to the walls.

The worshipers are free to bring small sacrifices to be placed on the altar. In case of a live sacrifice (chicken etc.) the sacrifice is slain and drops of its blood are sprinkled upon the altar.

Darka's altar room

The rounds thing on the picture is Darka's altar, a large cup filled with ash. The room has benches to accommodate worshipers and there is also a pedestal for a priest from which to hold sermon. There might also be religious objects that relate to Darka hung on the walls.

Darka's worshipers make their sacrifices at home in their daily life (cooking food, heating water etc.) and bring some of the ashes to the temple and pour them into the altar cup.

Sleeping quarters

The area holds rooms for priests, travelers, students and temple guards to sleep in. The rooms are very basic, holding only a bed and a small table if you are a student or a priest. The larger rooms usually hold more than one person.

Education and study area

The area where the students study, priests do their research and so on. The class room has benches and tables for the students. The library is filled with books and religious texts. There are a few tables and chairs for those who wish to read undisturbed. The third room in the picture is a combination of the two other rooms.

Medium Temple (Level 4)

The medium temple is much like the small temple (with more decorations), but is has a cellar/catacomb level that is accessible through a locked staircase in the purification area. The cellar has an area for wines, but it also holds a few prison cells for the heretics and unbelievers.

Large Temple (Level 5)

The large temple is a combination of a small temple and medium temple (with more decorations), with an second floor of education and sleeping areas. The second floor is accessible from a staircase in the entrance hall.
