Contests/Dwilight Realm Banners

From BattleMaster Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The new continent Dwilight has been worked on in secret for a while now. It is now almost ready to be launched.

Some things are still missing, however. That includes four realm banners. That is what this contest is about.

Current Status

The contest has been closed. Thanks for everyone who participated and sent in their ideas. There were many, many submissions, and not all could be selected for the final vote.

  • Good Submissions is the result of the first culling.
  • Finalists is where I've put the, well, finalists. Go there, and put your opinion on the talk page.
  • Winners - this is where the final winners can be found.

Contest Rules

  • Use the subpage Submissions to post your submissions. This page here is protected and can not be edited, that is why you have to use the subpage.
  • Up to three submissions per person. That's an arbitrary limit, just to stop people from flooding us with crap. If you think you have more than three really good submissions, talk to us and we'll probably allow an exception.
  • Follow the example posted on the subpage, that means your submission must include:
    • The banner and icon themselves, of course
    • A short mention of which realm it is intended for
    • Sign it (use the signature button, 2nd from the right)
    • If your user page doesn't include contact information, add that so we can tell you if you've won
  • If your banner is from an external source (Google image search comes to mind, or computer games), then please name your source. Banners passed off as your creations which are found to be from somewhere else will be disqualified. Images you found and posted with source will be considered, if we can use them (e.g. copyright issues).
  • The icon does not have to be a scaled-down version of the banner. It can be a part of the banner, for example. Look at examples currently in the game, in many instances selecting only the centrepiece of the banner for the icon gives a better result.
  • Four winning entries will be selected. We might give "special honours" to especially good banners that could not be selected for some reason.
  • Winners will have their banner used for one of the starting realms of Dwilight.
  • Winners will also get one free (additional) hero character who starts on Dwilight or can move one of their old characters to Dwilight as one of the first batch (i.e. before everyone else).

Timeline

We don't have a really fixed timeline, but the rough idea is:

  • Submissions until the end of August
  • Depending on the number of submissions, there might be a first elimination round before we gather votes.

Votes

Winners will be decided by Tom. However, feedback is very much requested and appreciated. Use the talk page of the Submissions page for feedback.

Technical Details

Icon:

  • 24x24 pixels
  • 8bit indexed .png with alpha channel

Banner:

  • Any size, within reason. Not too small, not too large. The rogue example banner is a good size.
  • .jpg or (only if jpg looks horrible) .png
  • black background

Realms

Dwilight will have four realms initially. So that you have an idea of what the banners could look like, here is a short description:

Springdale

Situated in the fertile north, grasslands and plains. Large cities and impressive townslands. Few forests, much coastline. Springdale is a monarchy.

Morek

Similar to Springdale in the landscape, but fewer and smaller cities in the area, a more rural community. Morek is a theocracy.

Pian en Luries

Near the mountains, near the badlands. Capital on the coast. A white city. Pian is a monarchy.

Madina

On the southern coast. Hills and forests nearby. Islands and shiplanes, a bit of a frontier place and the only republic.
