I think we need to clean this up. There shouldn't be 2 pages at 200 a page in a Catagory. Lets get rid of the Regions in favor of putting them on their continent catagory and maybe the realms as well... we get all the realms that ever were this place could get trashed again easy. -- Eric S P 21:14, 6 September 2006 (CEST)

Yeah, regions probably don't need to be in a Places category. What types of things *should* go in a Places category? --Indirik 21:52, 6 September 2006 (CEST)
Well descriptions of places in game. Like game information, what is a region, realm, guild hall, church, ect. Island catagories and islands could go here. In fact they might be better suited that some of those catagories be sub catagories of places. Regions as a catagory might be dicy... a subcatagory of each island called regions would be better to keep things clean and flowing. -- Eric S P 09:46, 7 September 2006 (CEST)
The Regions category is very cluttered. With a page for each region on EC, and many regions on AT, BT, and Colonies, it's tough to find anything you want. East Island and Colonies already have the Regions listed on their respective pages. If the same were done for AT amd BT then a category for regions would probably not be needed. They are already easy enough to find. As for Places, I think I see what you mean. --Indirik 14:59, 7 September 2006 (CEST)
Are you proposing that the Places Category be removed from all Region pages? --Calvin November 17:59, 7 September 2006 (CEST)
I don't see why they shouldn't be removed. There is a separate category for them. All they do on the Places page is clutter things up. The naming scheme for them: "island/region|region" also makes the Regions and Places pages very odd looking. Perhaps there should be multiple catgories for regions: ECRegions, ATRegions, etc. I'm not that familiar enough with MediaWiki to know about "sub categories" that Eric mentioned. --Indirik 19:04, 7 September 2006 (CEST)
Fair enough. I'll remove the Places Category from the region pages I've worked on. --Calvin November 16:24, 8 September 2006 (CEST)
Region pages do seem to constitute the bulk of this category so far, and I agree it seems superflous to list them here as well. What I wonder though, is what exactly do you envision the Places category listing when it's complete? Right now, it just seems to be regions and realms, so... what's the point of having this category?
I suppose that the best use for places would be to tag those places that have some special significance, such as Akesh Temple (one of the holy sites of the state religion of Light of Fountain), or the volcano in Mnt. Sinclair that is the central religious location for Darkanism. It could also be used to tag significant geographical features that anyone would want to write about, such as the new string of islands that was created on the East Island last year. You could also tag regions that contain the guild headquarters to alrge and influential guilds, and other such things. That's jusat a few ideas that popped up. --Indirik 04:37, 8 September 2006 (CEST)

IMO, for EC since that's the only place I do all the wiki stuff for, the following could use the "places" category:

East Continent/Great Southern Sea East Continent/Raqqah River East Continent/Isadril River East Continent/Bescanon River East Continent/Sirion River East Continent/Isadril Mountains East Continent/Eldoret Range East Continent/Akesh Mountains East Continent/Kalmar Bay East Continent/Bay of Isadril East Continent/Kazakh Peninsula East Continent/Astrum Woods

As they are not regions, and only places of geographic interest. Maybhe if we were to include some regions, strongholds are significant enough (as they generally seem to have the interesting RP background). --The1exile 17:45, 8 September 2006 (CEST)

As pointed out, this category lists many regions, some realms, some islands, and some other stuff. Personally, I think Category:Regions, Category:Realms, and Category:Islands should be all be subcategory of Category:Places. That would reduce the number of articles in this category to just a handful of geographical locations (rivers, lakes, mountains, etc.) and meta-information pages (Region, etc.) plus subcategories. So far, I've mostly been leaving this category alone, but if no one says 'No, that's a stupid idea!' within a day or two, I think I'll go ahead and depopulate this category in favour of the more specific categories (which I'll make subcats). -- Luca Masters 05:13, 6 March 2007 (CET)

I'm all for it. The categories seem to have been a bit overused. --Indirik 16:19, 6 March 2007 (CET)
