Monsters victorious in Mech Alb

In a shocking turn of events today the region of Mech Alb, long deserted and its population non-existent due to the constant monster presence for the past two weeks, was actually taken over by the monsters. The final reports which filtered in from the region described a brutal and surprisingly intelligent fiend taking command of the situation and declaring the region monster-held in his vile native tongue, a turn of events unforeseen by the Caerwynian military High Command. With further incursions in other regions to the north, in Mech Derris, Knazyes and Grazne, and with more groups forming in the deserted plains and mountains to the west and south of Caerwyn, the future is looking bleak with the beleagured military still in shock from this neverending invasion.

In other news, two other regions have changed hands recently with the Outskirts of Eidulb finally taken over by our Astrumese allies to the north which in turn surrounds the former Caerwynian city of Eidulb and forever removes it from Everguardian hands. Whilst in the south the city of Paisly, long the site of much bloodshed and conflict finally came under the control of local independance fanatics abandoning the control of Madina, bringing an end to the painful legacy of Melodia.

Controversy in Caerwyn

New controversies have rocked the Caerwynian nobility as the local firestarter Sir Joneleth Templar declared his open contempt for the taxation policies of the Caerwynian government, and the State Purser in particular. At the centre of the discussion is the taxation of the large sums of money that certain members of the realm control from the proceeds of the looting runs which have become crucial to the survival of the realm. However, Sir Joneleth has found himself without significant support from the nobility despite the ferocity of his attack and the mild legitimacy of his claims, and most of the discussion turned quickly to how he had managed to acumulate so much gold in the first place whilst many in the realm went without. This issue, discussed several times before in the past continues to be a sore-point amongst the Caerwynian nobility during the difficult times begin experienced, and given the heated nature of the conversations and rebuttal, it will be for some time to come.

Caerwyn splits from Viridian

The past few days have seen the end of the previously close and friendly relations with the realm of Viridian, a former Caerwynian colony. Allies almost since its inception, the Archon Lady Delia decided recently that the aggressive behaviour of the Viridianite nobility would no longer be tolerated following revelations in regard to their designs for the city of Darfix. The city, long a claimed possession of Caerwynian colonists who are already on their way northwards, as well as the realm of Everguard, is rumoured to the largest in the north and the prized jewel of any group able to stake their claim to it.

Following on from these controversies, there are rumours of an intense unannounced civil war in the realm of Viridian between two powerful rival factions led on one side by the current Prime Minister, and on the other by the ousted former ruler and founder of the realm. These tensions have also spilled over onto the international scene with accusations of betrayal by the current Prime Minister upon the Caerwynian nobility, as well as sanctioned looting runs upon claimed Caerwynian lands. It is unclear however as to whether breaking the alliance will lead to further drops in relations or whether Caerwyn and her colony can be reconciled. What is clear however, is that the future of the relationship is in serious doubt, bringing the hopes of many in Caerwyn of a strong triple alliance with Astrum included, to an end.

Death of a realm

Today the city of Paisly revolted against the control of the beleaguered republicans of the Melodian nobility, overthrowing the local government and declaring independance as the last remnants of their former rulers fled the city. The loss of Paisly has seen the end of Melodia, its death as a result of a series of unfortunate events which began with the outbreak of war with Shadovar, and ended with the victory of the republicans following a long and bloody civil war. Further information, which has been garnered from former Melodians who fled the influence of the republicans, has given weight to the widely regarded belief that the realm became an ineffective oligarchy toward the end of its life. No doubt playing a large part towards the heavy exodus of nobles to surrounding realms, further crippling the undermanned colony. Nevertheless, Melodia's end has cast a pall of concern over the realms of western Dwilight, clearly demonstrating that no realm is safe from the enemies outside, and within.

Mech Alb: Monster portal?!

The region of Mech Alb, now a land of ghosts having been ravaged for almost two weeks by continuous monster atttacks, remains infested by multiple groups of monsters formed in roving bands. With farmsteads and towns long deserted, and with Caerwynian troops few and far between, these foul beings seem to have taken up residence in the area with nearly 5,000 combat strength assembled, giving rise to the belief that the region may hold some special place in their black hearts. With further incursions still on-going in the northern lands of Knazyes, and with further sightings in regions adjoining to Caerwynian lands, the future is bleak.

New High Magistrate

Following the resignation of yours truly from the office of the High Magistrate, a broad field of candidates contested the recent elections to fill the vacancy. However Lady Alice Hyrdion, the former State Purser of the realm was victorious and was appointed as the new Magistrate in a brief ceremony in the capital of Golden Farrow. Good luck lady Alice!

Widespread setbacks across continent

The past few days have seen many regions lost in the struggle against rising odds to continue to bold colonisation of these uncharted lands. Notable losses in the south have centred around the successful uprisings in Larur and Paisly resulting in the death of Melodia, as well as the surprising disloyalty of the Palm Sea, a massive savannah in the southlands of the eastern continent and its abandonment of Fissoan control. In the north, the peasantry of the Mountain of Crysalids saw fit to declare its indepedance from the fledling realm of Viridian to the north of Caerwynian lands; and in the west, Morek has faced setbacks in the loss of Shomrak to the far south of their holdings. Given this avalanche of growing rebelliousness of the local peasantry, and the weakened state of the realms following the winter and the constant monster attacks from all around, tough times lie ahead it seems.

Melodia on its deathbed? Madina fights back!

Inside sources from the fledgling republican realm of Melodia have placed it on its deathbed, with unconfirmed reports that the General of Melodia himself has professed his despair, and is en route to newer shores along with several Melodian nobles loyal to him. This comes at a time when Melodia continues to struggle to maintain its most basic regions; and with gold running very short, its only city slowly starving and its military forces non-existant, it seems that Melodia is about to take Everguard's place as the realm next in line for extinction.

In other news however, the realm of Madina has made in-roads towards restoring their island possessions to the west of their capital in Madina city, taking the region of Bol which was only recently lost to independance fanatics. However, with Panafau and Laraibina still rogue to their northern territories, Madina it seems still has a long way to go.

Caerwyn in trouble...

The monster attacks upon Caerwyn's lands continue to gain further potency as the upper echelons continue to struggle to plan an effective campaign against this multi-headed enemy. Despite best efforts, what appears to be at least five groups continue to roam freely across the border regions, their strength bolstered by the inability of Caerwyn forces to properly deal with the threat. To add insult to injury, reports continue to flood in of victories against one group of monsters, only to hear of another group that has made its way down from the mountains to trouble the Caerwynian nobility on the plainlands.

With these on-going attacks, the morale and population numbers are falling rapidly on the outer-regions causing considerable distress to the Council of Stability as the Lords and Council members of the realm continue to guide the nobility in a running battle for the security of our lands.

New colonies announced in Darfix and Echiur!

Dwilight will soon be graced with two new colonies, with the colonisation group originally from Melodia set to head off to the city of Darfix in the far north in the next few days. Comprising of a small group of hardy folk led by Sir Valens Soulja, a former Judge of the Monarchy of Melodia when it existed, this expedition hopes to brave the rampant monster attacks and make their way to the mightiest city of the northern lands to form a realm there, both friendly to Caerwyn and her alliance members, and a strong friend to the Everguardians in the north.

Following on from the departure of this group, another group of colonists, this time wholly Caerwynian in number, will depart very soon to the city of Echiur to the west of Dwilight to found a new realm there. Led by yours truly, and comprising of around 6 or 7 nobles, this expedition has designs for the lands to the south of Caerwyn and has received the blessing of the Caerwynian High Council in its claims upon those lands. Further information as to its goals also lie around beginning a careful process of hedging in the mysterious lands to the south in the city of Nightmarch and the volcanic landscape thereabouts. This follows strange and disturbing reports from forward scouts of unusual sightings and a possible daimonic presence though as yet unconfirmed.

New High Magistrate required

Following on from the announcement of the colonisation party to the new realm in Echiur, Lady Teniel Dell resigned her office as the High Magistrate of Caerwyn after holding the title for nearly the entirety of Caerwyn's existence. Her resignation resulted in the announcement of snap elections for a replacement, resulting in a veritable flood of candidates for the office. With electoral landscape as of yet untested due to the landslide victories of the outgoing office-holder, five candidates have raised their hands for the job and time will only tell as to whom the Caerwynian nobility will select.

Astum on the charge

The tiny theocratic realm of Astrum is on the charge today, following the annexation of the coastal city of Eidulb and its conversion to their banner. The city of Eidulb has been the site of many territorial disputes following Caerwyn's original possession of the city, and then its removal from that city by the forceful diplomatic policies of the Everguardians to the north. After Everguard proved unable to control the city during its near capitulation several weeks ago, the city has changed hands three times before finally being picked up again by the Astrumites.

An ally of Caerwyn, as well as an ally of the Caerwynian colony of Viridian, control of Eidulb will no doubt remain in Astrumese hands for a long while to come.

Rulership elections over

The Lady Delia was re-elected to the rulership two days ago by an absolute majority due to absence of any other candidates for the rulership. Good luck Lady Delia!

June 13, 2008

Everguard on the rebound

Rumours of Everguard's impending doom seem to have been misplaced, with the once broken realm on the rebound having taken two new regions within a week of each other. The lands of Ammando have been reclaimed by the Everguardian nobility, with Sabadell also retaken last week. With the election of a new ruler, and a large exodus of nobles from their ranks it seems that only the true and hardy core elements of Everguard remain as they soldier on and attempt to rebuild their realm after weeks of implosion.

Melodia and Madina's woes continue

The realms of Melodia and Madina continue to wallow in depression with the loss of a region apiece on the same day, further sending them backwards in their efforts to spread their influence across the neighbouring provinces. Madina, already the odd one out when comparing its size and progress against the other founding colonies on Dwilight, continues to be incapable of taking and holding land on its islands to the far south of Dwilight; the region of Bol lost to local independance anarchists.

However Melodia in particular is in its darkest hours, after the brutal civil war which resulted in the loss of its off-shore possessions and the severe depletion of its gold reserves, its nobles and its military strength, the realm is now struggling to survive. Further information has come to light that the leader of the Republican rebels, Lord Quintus, also disappeared mysteriously a few days ago resulting in snap elections and the elevation of another major Republican rebel leader in Hireshmont II a member of the infamous Vellos family. With the loss of Maeotis however, and Paisland having only been lost a week before, it seems that Melodia is going backwards faster than they are making progress internally. No doubt the remaining Monarchist elements within the realm are having a field day...

Caerwyn overrun!

Caerwyn has experienced its worst ever invasion in the past few days with hundreds of monsters and undead fiends converging upon the outskirts of our territory and running riot amongst the people slaying peasant and animal alike in a terrible fury. Thus far the already battered and beleaguered armed forces of Caerwyn have been unable to hold back the tide of evil that has best us on all sides, with combined groups of monsters and undead numbering over five thousand in combat strength. Mech Derris, Mech Alb and Demyansk are overrun, and with food short already the aftershock from this unexpected attack has had devastating effects on Caerwyn's economy resulting in widespread starvation.

But the armies of Caerwyn are regrouping behind the walls of Farrowfield and Golden Farrow City itself, and the Council of Stability is confident of begin able to weather the storm and drive back the monsters that are bent upon our destruction.

Ruler elections almost over

The snap elections for the rulership of Caerwyn, brought about by the resignation of Lord Henry Casci from the office of the Archon are set to be finished by sunrise tomorrow. The result is hardly unknown however, due to the fact that there was only one candidate for the rulership to put their hand up, with the former Archon; ousted by a bureaucratic mishap, the inevitable winner as a result. But nevertheless, the election results will be accounted for and tabulated before a winner is announced and we eagerly await the results as the day breaks tomorrow morning.

New religion on Dwilight

The previously dominant role of the Church of Sanguis Astronism has been brought to challenge recently by the foundation of a new faith by the founding member and former King of Pian en Luries, Lord Kanneji Shenron. Lord Shenron is undoubtedly most famous for his attempted secession from Pian en Luries with the city of Poryatown following his lead shortly afterwards with all of its Ducal possessions. Without any support from within his new realm however, Verus Luria is now without a ruler, a Duke or any real Council members, and it is likely to be brought to an end by the Lurian armies as soon as they can arrange for the invasion.

The new faith, the Magna Aenilia Ecclesia, is as of yet unknown on Dwilight. However records can attest to its direct links in terms of doctrine and membership, to the religion of the same name on the Far Eastern Island. Rumour has it that the founder of the Aenilic Faith on Dwilight, was once a student of the tutelage of a man by the name of Duke Luyten Dell, a co-founder of the Aenilic Faith on the Far East and one of its current leaders. Whilst the Aenilic Faith has a large following on the Far East, its presence on Dwilight has only just begun, and it is yet to be seen if it will be accepted by the Nobility and allowed to spread through the patronage of its followers.

June 09, 2008

Ruler elections underway

Following on from the unrepresentative elections held at the beginning of the month, Sir Henry Casci stepped down as the Archon of the realm today after reviewing the bureaucratic mix-up that resulted in the former Archon, Lady Delia Sosiskiy, being ineligible for election. Shortly after his resignation, Lady Delia once again announced her candidacy and is widely regarded to be re-elected shortly after the votes are tabulated in five days time. In the meantime however, without a ruler, leadership of the realm has fallen to the co-operative efforts of the other remaining Council members and the Council of Stability, a forum of all the Lords and Marshals of the realm.

Trouble in Viridian?

The fledgling realm of Viridian has been rocked by controversy in the past few days with reports filtering through into Caerwyn of an intense power-struggle between two major political players within the realm. It is unknown exactly how Sir Vesna, the founder of the realm of Viridian and its first Prime Minister, was removed from his office, but with the election of this formerly unknown figure in Sir Varak, the situation has rapidly deteriorated. Further reports suggest that in order to reclaim his throne, no doubt under the rationale of the rectification of voting irregularities, Sir Vesna was gathering support for a rebellion. In response to these threats to his rulership, the new Prime Minister immediately took action by outing Vesna as a rebel and declaring a referendum to determine as to whether he should be banned or should be permitted to remain in the realm.

Word has reached the Chronicle of a great deal of correspondance being shared between the "two rulers" of Viridian, and the "two rulers" of Caerwyn in Sir Henry and Lady Delia, all of which are asking for Caerwynian intervention in some cases, requesting both aid and neutrality as the dispute is resolved. More coming when we hear of it....

Madina and Astrum make gains

The realms of Madina and Astrum have made further gains toward the colonisation of Dwilight, each taking on a region a piece as they continue to expand in all directions. Most notably the realm of Madina, one of the original colonies which has been somewhat of an underachiever in terms of expansion and size compared to the other founding colonies, has taken a different approach to acquisition of land in their seeming abandonment of the northern regions of their island which continue to elude them. With the takeover of Bol, a region on a small stepping stone island to the West Dwilightian mainlaind, perhaps they are shifting their goal towards the city of Candiels and the Tower Fatmilak.

The tiny realm of Astrum however continues to expand at a relatively rapid pace, now with all of the lands which surround the city of Libidizedd now taken and the entire north-central island passage to Eastern Dwilight under their control.

Monster and Undead problems

Caerwyn continues to come under the repeated attacks of the monster and undead scourge with Mech Alb overrun by multiple groups and the region of Demyansk still occupied by the foul creatures. With the Caerwynian army still on the move after over a week in the field, and with battle fatigue playing a major factor in future operations, the chances of being able to clear out the monsters soon seem to be shrinking rapidly. Despite these problems however, the regions of Caerwyn continue to be in good shape, and improving, due to the combined effort of an army of bureaucrats and the hard work of its Lords. There is no doubt however that if the monsters are not cleared out soon, the situation could become far more serious that it has already become, and there is none in Caerwyn who want to repeat the dismal history of our Everguardian neighbours to the north.

June 06, 2008

Verus Luria doomed?

The unexpected secession of founder and former ruler of Pian en Luries looks set to end just as quickly as it began, with many of the regions he took with him already swearing allegiance back to the mother realm. Further information has come to light in regards to the motives and reasoning behind his drastic actions, pointing to dissatisfaction in the way that the Duchess of Askelion was treated after having been removed from the realm for reasons believed to revolve around poor regional upkeep and insulting the Crown. Regardless of its purpose it seems though, the realm of Verus Luria with its shrinking population and fleeing nobles, is doomed...

Tournament turnout under-impresses

Despite earlier expectations of a high turnout for the tournament held in Aegir on the fourth day of June, records and spectators have indicated an under-impressive number of colonial nobility who attended the spectacle. Despite the low numbers however, from all reports the quality of the contestants was above average with many proclaiming the entrance of great swordmasters, particularly from the Springdalian nobility themselves.

At the end of the event, only two Nobles remained the battle out for the title of tournament champion, and Sir Farlouche of Everguard was proclaimed the winner after defeating Lady Edith Hashimashidas.

Shadovar victorious!

The short-lived but eventful war between the realm of Melodia and Shadovar came to an end today with the annexation of Raviel, as well as the Port city of the same name under the Shadovarian flag as per the agreement made between the new Republican government of Melodia and the Tyrant of Shadovar. No doubt this conclusion has brought some relief to the Shadovarians who at one point faced the combined diplomatic and military weight of three realms rather than just one, in the aftermath of their unexpected invasion of the Port city.

The end of the war is also welcomed in Melodia, where the Repulican government continues to struggle to maintain control of its regions. Loosing the townslands of Paisland to the local independance movement only this morning.

Regions come and go

The past few days have seen several regions change hands, as territories were gained and lost. In the south, the Fissoans achieved further gains with the acquisition of the rural lands of Nuas, whilst Pian en Luries, in further insult to injury, lost the region of Cadier in the aftermath of the secession of Poryatown and its surrounds under the leadership of the former King of Pian en Luries, Kaennji.

On west Dwilight, the beleaguered Melodians suffered further setbacks with the loss of Paisland to the anarchist peasant factions, despite the surprise sucessful takeover of Maeotis only several days before. Furthermore with the loss of Paisland, this has effectively separated the Capital of the realm from the only remaining possession of the realm, placing Melodia in the same basket as Everguard as they struggle for survival in the harsh conditions. Finally, the region on the Outskirts of Eidulb changed hands once more, this time succumbing to the rampant independance movements of the peasantry in the area and the Viridianite nobility unable to respond to the the situation fast enough, or with great enough force. This in turn puts any thoughts of the acquisition of Eidulb under the Viridanite banner to rest.

Everguard alive?

Today saw the first gains Everguard has made in weeks, with the successful takeover of Sabadell situated to the west of the capital in Gelane. In the first signs that perhaps the Everguardian nobility have finally seen the last of their woes, the re-acquisition of their territories has begun despite having haemorraged territories and Nobles for a long while now after expanding too far and too fast, and then suffering from internal divisions.

Situation under control

The rampant monster situation in Caerwyn is slowly being brought back under control with victories for the Caerwynian forces in Demyansk yesterday, and Mech Alb today. However further groups have also been spotted wreaking havoc in Knazyes to the north, as well as Mech Derris, and with battle fatigue setting in the final groups will be the hardest to take care of. Morale in the Council of Stability and the realm remains high however, as the newly taken region of Grazne was restore to near full strength today, and steady improvements begin seen in the regions of Walefishire and Mech Alb following the removal of the monster scourge.

June 04, 2008

Secession!

Rumours have reached the Chronicle here on the Western continent that civil war has struck the superpower of Pian en Luries. Details are sketchy at best for the moment, but word is that the founding city of Poryatown has been declared the Capital of a new realm under the command of the former King of Pian en Luries, and its founder, Kanneji. At this point in time there is no information regarding the events which have surrounded the secession, nor has any word been received upon the Duke's motives for doing so. What is clear however, is that in the process of the secession the once superior realm of Pian en Luries has lost a third of its population, with a city and all of its ducal posessions following. Some five regions in total, and perhaps 20 or so nobles.

Greatly dwarfed by the remaining power of the Luries proper, this new realm will be hard pressed to survive a prolonged war of that there is no doubt. Though, this surprising series of events will no doubt be greeted with jubilation in the Grand Duchy of Fissoa, almost assuring the end of their phoney war with the Lurians as they move on to deal with bigger fish. Will report on more information as we hear of it...

Awash with monsters

The month of June has not began well for the Caerwynian nobility, as our lands have become awash with monsters and undead in fresh invasions which have claimed the lives of hundreds of peasants and soldiers unlucky enough to come across the paths of the ravenous beasts. At present there are eye-witness reports of monsters and undead rampaging in the regions of Demyansk, Mech Derris and Knazyes, as the Caerwynian military under the command of our newly appointed Grand Imperator, struggle to deal with the situation. These new ferocious assaults have also stalled any possibility of further expansion in the days to come, as resources are re-directed to destroy the threat.

Further reports indicate that work is also being done to begin the construction of walls in all regions that can sustain them, most notably the region of Walefishire in the north. With the funds not too readily available, but within reach, it is hoped that these fortifications will provide excellent bastions of defence, and redoubts from which attacks can be launched and frontiers can be held. At this time however, with most attention being directed to confront the threat at hand, this initiative too, looks to be a long-term goal rather than a short-term objective.

Gains for Astrum

The tiny realm of Astrum in the north-central isles has made its first true gains yesterday, taking the region of Dizeddo on their southern borders and making their first steps towards total control of the isle. Their takeover units, sponsored by the realm of Caerwyn, have been put to good use it seems, and the Chronicle wishes them every luck in their endeavours.

Viridianite Justice Minister attacked

In further shocking events to the northern political landscape, the Minister of Justice for Viridian, Lord Tsuboh Gothic, was struck down by an unknown assailant under the cover of darkness a few days ago. Word has it however that the infiltrator in question could be identified as an Everguardian, further straining relations with the Triple Alliance of Caerwyn, Astrum and Viridian, and hanging a pall of doubt over the negotiations between the broken realm of Everguard and the fledgling Viridianites.

In many quarters the nobility of Caerwyn have taken the assassination attempt as a personal insult given Lord Tsuboh's former history as the Marquis of Farrowfield, and his good standing in the realm. There have been unconfirmed reports that the Caerwynian leadership is quietly encouraging the Viridianites to take the city of Eidulb in retaliation, forever confining the Everguardians to their northern posessions and solidifying the eastern and northern holdings of Viridian and Caerwyn. More information will follow as we hear of it....

June 01, 2008

Everguard continues to fail

The last remnant of Everguard's southern holdings deserted the Everguardians just days before the end of May, and in yet another sure sign that Everguard's days are limited. Crippled by the daily monster attacks that plague all of the western colonies, and handicapped by poor leadership and the mysterious disappearance of several key governmental members, it seems as though the Gods themselves have spoken judgement upon a once proud realm. It can only be surmised that at the rate they are loosing their regions, the realm of Everguard will be no more by the end of June, unless drastic action is taken within the realm to restore its forward motion.

The desertion of the Eidulb Outskirts has provided a boon for the Viridians in the Crysalanthys Mountains however, with its allegiance now under their banner and the city of Eidbulb itself within reach. Indeed it can only be a matter of time before this fledgling Caerwynian colony makes a move on the city and attempts to take what Everguard laid claim to but could not hold.

Mellifera has a mind of its own

The unexpected gains made by the Fissoans in their phoney war with the Lurians to the north have been reversed only a week after they were made. The region of Mellifera declared independance of all colonial control earlier today, after local anarchists managed to slaughter the local colonial government, and the Fissoan nobility were unable to maintain their tenuous control upon the lands so far to their northern border. No doubt their indepedance will be shortlived however, so close to the borders of both realms, Mellifera will be regained by either party in the not too distant future to be sure.

New Grand Imperator

Following the sudden resignation of the long-time Grand Commander of the Caerwynian military Lord Beaumains, the Archon of Caerwyn Lady Delia, acted quickly to maintain the realm council, appointing Lord Rothat to the command. Lord Rothat announced his acceptance of the office of the Grand Imperator shortly afterwards and has been welcomed by the Council of Stability wholeheartedly. A former Supreme Arbitrator of Caerwyn, and predecessor to the office held currently by yours truly, the Chronicle wishes him well in the future and looks forward to a fruitful time of consolidation and expansion under his guidance.

Elections in Caerwyn again

The monthly elections in Caerwyn have come around once more, with the role of the High Magistrate and the Archon once more up for review by the Nobility and the Lords of the realm. There has been some controversy however with the revelation that due to unknown bureacratic issues, Lady Delia may not be eligible for re-election to the rulership. Already en route to the Capital to consult with the realm bureaucracy, it is hoped that the situation may be resolved quickly and the elections permitted to continue unhindered.

Tournament in Aegir gathers steam

The tournament in Aegir appears to be under-performing in attendance so far, with reports yielding only 25 contestants so far within the tournament grounds. But with the record-keepers unable to track those nobles still en route to the destination, it is impossible so far to gauge the true size of the tournament attendance. Will keep the realm posted on further developments.
