In the early night of Barad Gardor, a knight rides across the city on an old country horse. Under the dark ragged cloak you can see she can barely keep herself straight on the horse's back, and there is no saddle. The citizens open their windows, curious as they hear her pass, but they can't figure who she is or where she comes from. Finally, the tired horse slows down near the town center, and stops before an inn's door. With great pain, the dame dismounts and knocks with all the little strength that she's got left. After a while, a man appears on the door.

Can I help you, traveller?, sais the man. The rooms are all empty except for one, and for a cheap amount we can offer you hot bath and soup.

The dame removes the hood and speaks harshly, with a tired voice. I hope I already have a room, and we can leave heat and food for later. What I need is news about my cousin Ilya... Here she rises her head and looks into the man's eyes, with a tired smile. I heard a rumor that she's getting married, and I don't know where, or when.

Dame Ireth!, exclaims the man, recognizing her at last. I never thought you'd be back after your sudden disappearance! Your servant, though, was faithful. He stayed in here all along, waiting for your return. What happened?

I can tell my story later, is the annoyed answer. It was enough of a hazard to live it. Now call Jack upstairs! If anyone can give me the actual place of the wedding, maybe I can reach her in time!

A moment later, the young servant appeared, screaming: Mylady! You are back! If you only knew how many letters your parents sent you after they got no answer on the last one! And master Jones, the scribe, he thought you were gone and left three days ago! And how don't you know where the wedding shall be?! It will happen tonight, in Tucha! We're already late! And --

At this point Ireth interrupted him. Listen, boy!, she said loudly, holding him by his shoulders. Take the inn's fastest horse and ride to Tucha right away. Make sure Ilya knows I'll be there tomorrow, by nightfall the latest.

The boy, excited and talking a lot, ran with the inn's owner to the stable. A while later, the man and the dame met in the front door, after she had put on decent travel clothes and eaten some soup.

The horse is saddled and your belongings are packed with it, he said. And you can take a coach or trade horses in the Drunken Crow inn by the road of Lothruin. The owner is my brother, he will help you. After that point it should be an easy ride.

Thank-you, master Sommer., replied Ireth, handling him the payment for his services. After doing that, she mounted her horse and left in a hasty step.
