The sword is forged in a blue tinted steel alloy with a length of 34 inches. The hilt is gilded in gold, for counterbalance, and a beautifully cut blue sapphire is the pommel. In the guard is stamped the formerly Royal seal of Ortedail.

The sword is named not because it received consecration from the gods, or their priests, but because of the sheer number of undead refelled by its blade. The Blessed Sword of Ortedail makes its way into the lore of the populace of the south on many occasions. It appears, wielded in the hands of great heroes, cutting a path to glory. However, the stories almost always end in the death or disappearance of the hero.

The last reported wielder of the sword, Sir Baldric of Dsinanas, was a younger son of the Count of Dsinanas. Not standing to inherit his father's wealth, he set out to make a name for himself. His quest was to rid the Ortedail duchy of, beasts and abominations, that rampaged the lands. By doing this he hoped to win the favor of the Duke of Ortedail, and in turn be rewarded with landed titles. In the trove of an alpha monster, he found a sword that stood out among the dull iron weapons that lay around it. A sword that appeared almost blue, and that the corruption of the elements had not yet touched. He took the sword for his own.

With it he slew many monsters, and broke the bodies of the undead. But it could not save him from death by his enemies hands. Hearing of an undead sorcerer in Ortedail, Sir Baldric sought out the abomination. To his misfortune he was successful. The undead were tracked to a seaside cave several miles to the northwest of Ortedail. He, with his men, over confidently attacked the undead group, and did not survive. The sword remained with Sir Baldric's reanimated corpse until an adventurer called Indigo won it as a prize of battle.

It eventually found its way into the hands of Duke Alpha Enodscopia of Ortedail, who bore it with pride on many fields of battle, and, due to its use, it was often damaged and subsequently repaired by the adventurer Onamont.
