BattleMaster Acronyms

Here's a list of some of the acronyms that you'll see while playing BattleMaster.

Acronyms Used by the Game

These acronyms are actually used in the game, so you will see them when you play.

Classes

In the troop leader list, the character classes are abbreviated using the first letter of the class name.

• A = Adventurer
• B = Bureaucrat
• C = Cavalier
• H = Hero
• I = Infiltrator
• K = Knight
• P = Priest
• T = Trader

Troop Types

Troop types are sometimes designated using their first letter (i.e. I = Infantry, A = Archers, etc.) and sometimes with the longer format:

• Arch - Archers
• Cav - Cavalry
• Inf - Infantry
• MI - Mixed Infantry
• SF - Special Forces

Others

• CS - Combat Strength
• OOC - Out Of Character, not speaking as your character, but as a player (e.g. about your real life).
• SE - Siege Engines

Acronyms Used by the Community

These acronyms were invented by the community. They are not used by the game itself, but you will likely see them in messages, on the discussion list or here on the Wiki.

• BM- BattleMaster. That one's simple.
• BG - Battle Group. Not used in smaller realms, but sometimes medium to large realms like to subdivide their military. Usage has declined with the advent of armies.
• Buro - shortcut for the character class bureaucrat.
• IC - In Character, speaking as your character, the opposite of OOC above
• IG - In Game. Similar to IC above, but refering to actions taken within the game.
• LB - Lightning Bolt. The punishment of someone's character or account by Tom or (in RP terms) the gods. Particularly fierce lightning bolts are known as Lightning Storms, which have been known to strike the offending noble dead on the spot.
• MG - Message Group. Replacement to the BG. MG's are used to facilitate messaging between various different groups, not only for the military.
• OOG - Out of Game - Refers to discussion that take place outside the game of BattleMaster itself, such as over IRC, the Discussion List, email, or instant messenger.
• RC - Recruitment Center These are the buildings in regions where peasants are trained to become soldiers.
• RL - Real Life, that scary place outside BM
• RP - Role play, just as in "IC" but often including actions as well as speech
• TL - Troop Leader. A player character.
• TO - Takeover - Subdivided as FTO (Friendly TO), HTO (Hostile TO), BTO (Brutal TO), and CTO (Colony TO)
