Chapter IV

The Avalon army makes good timing with their travels. They soon pass the mark where the battle was supposed to take. Hours go by and they still don’t find the enemy. The men start to get nervous and the marshal begins to question if they are going in the right direction so he sends out a scout. A few minutes later and the scout returns with his report.

“Sir, the enemy is near our current position. I didn’t spot any action inside the fort so they are presumable still asleep.”

“Excellent, then we will board their walls with our ladders and make our move on my call. Lead the way, scout..

“Yes sir.”

The army arrives at the fort only to see that a small unit has already accumulated outside of the fort. The marshal orders the army to halt and take cover. They wait for the last few men to pour out of the fort. The marshal tells the archers to ready their bows. He orders them to fire and he follows the attack up with the infantry charging them. The attack was a success and the fort was claimed by Avalon. That night the Avalon army celebrates in the Plegroth Fort. Instead of joining them, Hector decides to take a stroll outside the base to recollect the thoughts of his first victory. The fort glowed with the bon-fire and music dimmed as Hector walk off to a nearby pond. He walks alone under Ouranos and thinks quietly about his new career and the future of it. He arrives at the pond and sits down on a log. The moonlight shine down on the water like silver poured onto the lake and Hector gazes at the brilliantness of it. As he stares into the shimmer of light the color slowly turns orange-red. Hector looks up to see a ball of fire screaming down towards him. He jumps behind the log and peaks his head out. The fireball crashes into the lake and bubbles of steam rise to the surface. Hector is completely shocked about what just happened. He decides to investigate and dives in. He couldn’t see in front of him in the lake but by his precise dive he grabs hold of a metal object. He swims to the surface and wipes the water from his face with his arm. As he opens his eyes his heart nearly stops to see the beauty of Ares’ blade that he had just found. It was damaged a bit while mixing with the molten metal and flying in the air with great speed that the blade curved a bit like a snake. The blade glows gold and clashes with the white moonlight. Hector runs back to base with his new found weapon. He decides to save the surprise for a battle with Plegroth. Besides, everybody at the fort was probably drunk and wouldn’t make any sense presenting them with such a magical blade.

Ares returns to Hephaestus’s volcano hovel. He calls for his sword which was complete by then. Hephaestus tosses his sword up to him and Ares departs. Hephaestus sits on the wall of his workshop and spots a hole in the floor. The eruption had left a hole that lead deep into the earth. Hephaestus curiously looks down the hole. He grabs a torch and climbs down. He climbs for seemingly hours until he finally finds an opening. He hops out of the hole and falls to the ground. The rumble from his fall made the hole collapse and he becomes blocked. He looks around to find where he was. It was the lair of Hades, in between Lethe and Styx. Hephaestus holds his torch up and finds himself in an ocean of lost souls. Strangely he feels comfortable in here; For once he finds people that know his pain even if they were mortals. He makes out a strange thing in the dim light of his torch, he confronted a tar covered lake that had what looked like seaweed lingering everywhere. He then sees a boat crammed with as many souls it could take slowly sailing towards him. He is frightened and hobbles away as fast as he can. After much more travel Hephaestus grows tired of wandering in this no where. He almost

decides to turn around and climb back up the volcano until suddenly a figure appears in front of his face. It was Hades himself, removing his helmet of invisibility. As this happened, Hephaestus nearly falls over in fright.

“You Who are you what are you doing in my realm?” Said Hades

“ I would like to know the same first. Where in the world am I?”

Hades turns from shocked to stern as he begins to argue haply with his new friend.

“I am Hades and you are, as of now, dead. This is my world, cherish it as if it were yours; You will be staying here longer than you think!”

“I doubt it! My followers surely already know of my disappearance. I am like Jove himself where I live.”

Hephaestus smiles at his cleverness. Hades’ heart sunk and he sighs.
