Avalon/Roleplay Section/Kain/Alchemy in Norjke
Part I
Kain leaves his room and runs downstairs to his personal laboratory of alchemy located in the basement of his palace in Norjke
"I think I have it!!" does he say while he runs through the passages. The servants he meets on his way know already that he is a lover of Science.
"Go for it, Sir...! Maybe you get something useful this time..." yells one servant while he laughs out loud hoping not to be heard by the hero.
But Kain is too busy trying not to forget the percentage of the components he dreamed of... acqua forte 63%, silber 15%, 21% of undead's blood and just 1% lead to obtain the preciated gold... The myth of obtaining gold of lead is very old and considered by many as a child-story. But Kain was convince that the undead blood had to have magical power, because it maintained undead flesh alive! The silber had to be present in the solution, because it was also a preciated metal... The Alchemy is the only science which principal tool was superstition.
While he enters the room he grabs a leg from an undead cadaver near the door, that he was analyzing to know their anatomy. His first surprise came when he didn't find any organs ruling its organism. No stomach, no lungs... just black heart, because of the dry blood recovering it. He determined that the dry blood was because of the fast degeneration of the undead's body after its dead. After 10 hours their blood got totally dry, while 20 hours later there was no dry blood at all, because it vanished in the air. For this reason he put the broken leg of the undead into water for conserving the blood fresh.
After getting the blood out of the leg he achieves to get 20 ml of it. Remembering the percentages he gets out of the undead some drops more. Finally he reaches the correct percentage of undead blood. The piece of lead over the table breaks easily with Kain's sword, getting some little pieces of lead. He throws it into the recipient where the undead blood is starting to get dry. He can't find such a big piece of silver in his laboratory, but then the throws two rings made out of silver, while he thinks "For the glory of science!" hoping not to have wasted silver... Finally comes the main component: acqua forte. It's a latin expression which traduced means strong water.
In the norht lands of Colonies it was discovered by Sir Nobel, an Outer Tilogian scientist. He tried to "burn" air, convinced that not just oxygen was there. A strange gas came out and quickly he got that into a tube. He burned it during hours and saw how it became liquid. He thought that it was a special kind of water and thought to taste it to look for new flavours. But before that his ring fell down from his finger.... luckily! He saw how this "water" destroyed the gold. It took him a while to accept how something could make gold soluble while it didn't destroy the glass of the bottle which contained it. That's why he called it "strong water". Or in latin acqua forte.
Finally he puts the acqua forte in the solution and waits... After half an hour of very uneasy waiting he gets bored and goes cleaning his hands after using the undead's leg.
"Damn dream! It gives me illusions... without success!" Kain gets angrier and angrier...
"Damn! Damn! DAMN!!!" he shouts while he grabs the soap he was washing his hand with and throws it to the pot of acqua forte. "HERE! HAVE THIS!!! DESTROY IT AND BE USEFUL!!!" shouts he to the pot.
He leaves his laboratory very angry and returns to his room thinking of any solution for the eternal question of getting gold from lead.
In the laboratory the complex solution with undead's blood continued without reactioning... but the soap in the pot started bubbling slowly...
Part II
While entering in his room the same servant that before wanted to make him a joke sees Kain walking really angry through the corridor. It's been 10 years now of uneasy waiting... A wait for something useful for the alchemist society, but his colleagues already had invented some important solutions for recovering metal making it stronger and stronger. But the only success Kain achieved in his alchemist life was to lose more than six rings by trying to obtain gold from silver. The frustration is the only feeling in his mind right now...
He enters his room and with a strong kick he throws his chair out of the window. While he sits on his bed to try to calm down, he hears his chair fall on the ground, splitting up into many wood pieces...
When am i going to be able to make something *useful*... Maybe i'm not going to get it never... Maybe should i stop to practice alchemy and to investigate on it...
Some hours later Kain decides to go downstairs to rebuilt his laboratory in a weapon factory to improve the weapons of Avalon... He should be able to make a little improvement in the reinforcement using the quick coagulation qualities of undead blood in the steal of the swords. He had to find the way to not get the blood vanish into the air after getting dry...
The hero opens the door and goes to see his experiment, just to remind himself how useless his investigations are... But then he looks to the acqua forte pot and he's a bit surprised: the liquid has now a dark green colour. But the soap was white and the acqua forte hasn't colour... Where does the green colour come from?. He goes to the pot and looks it with a bit of curiosity... Well maybe in the soap there was still some undead blood of my hands... Let's burn it away, i don't want my weapon factory to smell like that. It really don't smell well.
The hero calls one of his servants and while he takes the acqua forte solution out to the fields, Kain gets oil to make that burn. While walking out of the palace the servant nearly falls but Kain gets the heavy pot before it falls down.
"Are you OK?" "Yes Sir, no need to worry. I'm very sorry." "Forget your rimes and try not to let fall this... thing in here or the whole palace will smell like this..." Both laugh and continue walking out. It's already dark outside.
Finally they arrive to a place with the nearest tree about 10 meters away...
"Alright, here it can't burn any tree... I'll put it here with the whole pot, because it seems it's starting to get really hot... There is some kind of smoke going outside and my hands can hold it anymore..." says the servant.
"What are you talking about? That doesn't react... Well it doesn't matter let it there, then."
The servant lets it in there and Kain starts throwing oil in and around it. "Oh damn! I let my fire instruments in the entrance of the palace when the pot nearly falls... Go and get them please... Well it smells that bad that I think I'll go with you" says Kain.
When they return to palace the servant doesn't know if ask him about his success and why he ordered to empty the laboratory. Better not... I don't think he wants to talk about this.....
Finally they arrive at the main entrance and get the fire instrument. He turns around and sees a giant light coming from the place the pot has been... like daylight.
The next thing he remembers is laying on the ground near the stairs of the main entrance with all the broken glass of the windows of the palace near him. He doesn't remember really good what happened.
Ring in the pot... Sh*t of experiment... Chair flying... Burn the pot... Wait! I didn't burn it!...
He turns around and sees a hole of 8 meters diameter and about 3 meters deep.... And the five tree that were 10 meters away of the place they set the pot... didn't exist anymore...
All the servants and Kain himself go to search water for the wood burning, but then Kain sees there is no fire at all... Devastation without fire...
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!?!?!?" shouts Kain ready for battle to see if some divine power is going to appear from anywhere...
One servant that saw everything tells him: "It came from your pot, Sir..."
"Are you serious??" asks Kain really surprised. "Pretty sure, Sir".
"I have to know what the hell I've produced that can make that devastation SO clean..." said Kain while he returns to his room to write a letter asking more acqua forte to the production center in Outer Tilog, the place where it was discovered a century ago.
He sents another to Michael asking for put a cadavre of Undead under water (he probably thinks the hero has gone crazy) and runs to analyze the soap and think of his components....
Alchemy has returned to his life once again...
Part III
Kain finally receives the acqua forte imported from Colonies. He couldn't experiment what that strange substance was which exploded and nearly killed him some weeks ago, because the pot of acqua forte with some soap. Now he can really investigate what that could be...
The Baron of Norjke enters his laboratory while his servants are still repairing the broken windows due to the explosion. He's anxious now again to know about alchemy. The possibility to reach finally some prestige in the Alchemist Society, a scientific community, came again with that big explosion.
"OK, first of all, let's think about the substance created. In the pot of acqua forte i threw some soap which contained some rests of undead blood with which i cleaned my hands before. This might be the ingredient of such a big explosion... But i doubt i let so much undead blood on the soap to create such a big reaction. I mean, i might have introduced some drops of undead blood in a pot filled with more than 5 liters of acqua forte... I think the concentration is too low... But the alchemist principles of Hermes Trismegistus say it's impossible to get reactions in which the concentration is less than 2% compared to the solution in which it is put on....So i think that it may be some component of the soap which made that reaction." thinks the hero while he walks out of his laboratory.
The hero gets another piece of soap from his personal room and returns to his alchemical room located under the main entrance of his palace.
"Well let's try this experiment again... but in less concentration of course! I want to keep alive for receiving some award for this!"
He made the experiment 4 times at once with 4 little pots filled with 100ml of acqua forte and put in each 10, 20, 30 and 40 grams soap, so every experiment had different concentrations. The reaction's speed was not much different in the four pots; 2 hours of bubbling.
When the solutions became of the same colour as the big pot which exploded some weeks ago he put them in a little bag and handled it with care, because he already know its power. But his scientific method didn't think of an important factor... It was during night when he made the pot burn. Now the fields joined of a glorious and nice daylight...which could be also lethal...
Kain walks out with his bag to the field and put the pots in the field in a distance of 20 meters between them, so that the range of explosion of the first pot didn't affect the other ones so he could investigate the exploding reactions one by one. First he put the one with more concentration 40 grams soap in 100 ml of acqua forte. He walked around 30 steps away and put the second one (30 grams in 100ml).
While walking to the third one he hears an explosion and instinctively he gets down. Some glass splits get encrusted in his back, which was fortunately covered by his battle suit, which he put on for making this experiment. Surprised because of the quick explosion he runs to the pot, which just exploded... On his way he looks the second pot and sees how it is violently bubbling now.
"HOLY SH*T!" shouts Kain while he looks to his bag and sees how they are also starting to bubble. He throws the bag as far away as he can and runs away of the pot on the ground in the opposite direction. He could just jump into the whole made by the 5-liters pot some weeks ago before the second one also exploded followed by the explosion of the other two when they hit the ground.
"What the hell does make this liquid react?" thinks Kain...
"Oh, damn! Daylight! It's a bit warm out here... But not that much... I think that concentration is not the problem; it reacts nearly with the same strength... Let's see the chemical composition."
He returns to his laboratory to investigate on paper what he just created as a cause of frustration, when he threw the soap into pot of acqua forte. He gets some papers and writes the components:
acqua forte, soap: oils, glycerin and alkaline solutions...
"Let's make them react separated..."
That day Kain discovered one the mightiest explosives the human ever could imagine. Acqua forte is an acid made of air components, as Nitrogen, Oxygen and Hydrogen... which makes nitric acid. Together with oils it didn't react but it stunk. The alkaline components of soap together with that nitric acid just got neutralized as every alkali neutralizes every acid. But the glycerin DID react with the nitric acid...
The hero called it "Kainium" to honour himself and sent his experiments to patent-office of Cteduul and then to the Alchemist Society.
