Jessica reunites with Hector
Hector and Arian ride into Cteduul. He heads to his manor on the outskirts of town. As he rides up, he sees 2 horses tied up outside in the courtyard. Visitors. Hector thinks to himself. Arian dismounts, and ties his horse to a tree, near the entrance of the manor, far away from the other horses. He proceeds with Hector inside the manor.
Inside, Hector smiles wide as he sees his love, Jessica in the parlor with Xaero. He looks, with no expression towards Xaero, not sure if there is some kind of trouble. “Xaero, how goes your days?”
“Fine, Lord Hector, it is a pleasure to see you again.” Xaero smiles. “My cousin wanted to see you, I assume it is business, so I’ll leave you two be for a moment.”
Hector looks over at Arian, who is studying Jessica intently. He gets an eerie feeling about that look. “Jessica, my dear, what brings you here?”
“Hector, I am going away, and wanted to say good-bye. I haven’t been totally honest, and still can’t. There are too many important lives at stake…”
Hector interrupts. “I know you are related to Kain and Xaero. No worries. It is alright. The nobles don’t care, even if the people do.”
Jessica looks longingly at Hector, tears in her eyes, “No one knows about us. They know you rescued the girls, and they think that’s why I am here to thank you. I can not drag you or anyone else I love into this tangled mess.”
Hector looks over at Arian who is looking at her, he is almost in a trance as he stares.
Hector looks back. “Jess, I don’t care anymore. Let’s just end the secrecy. You can stay here, in my manor while I am away. Or better yet, you can ride with me, if you wish. I have a carriage and men and they can ride with you.”
Jessica starts, her heart is beating, there is nothing more she would want, but pauses, coming back to reality. “I-I really can’t do that, Hector. I-I don’t think it’s…”
Arian steps forward. “Madam, if you’ll permit me to make a suggestion. I can ride with you and help protect you. I think Hector has a good point. We have some important things to do, and I think it would be best if, in these very trouble times, you remained under Hectors, and my protection.”
As Jessica starts to protest, Hector steps forward, taking her hands, “Of course! You are to come with us. I do not want anything to happen to you. For glories sake, come with me Jess!”
Jessica realizes they are right. The recent Monster invasions nearly destroyed everyone. And then, there was that dream. She turns and walks a few paces away from them, then stops, and looks over at Arian. He seems very familiar, “Have I seen you somewhere before?”
Arian looks calm and leans forward. “My dear lady, if I’d seen you before, I’d have never forgotten it!” He reaches down and kisses her hand.
Jessica looks over at Hector again, pausing, and then looks down at her shoes. “What should I wear on a journey like this?” Jessica smiles.
Hectors face stretches into a huge smile, and he goes to her. “We will tell Xaero and Kain the truth, and then I will insist that I be able to protect you. Xaero, Kain and Revan can come with us, yes, Arian?” He turns and looks at Arian.
“The more swords we have the better.” Arian says as he nods slowly.
“It’s settled then; off you go, get your bags and send Xaero in here. I have to discuss the details of our mission with him.” As she runs off, out of the room, he turns and looks at Arian. “That’s OK they know, right?”
Arian pauses, “Yes, but only them, not her, not yet. It’s important she not be scared, or given too much information.”
As Hector studies him, he can not read this man. He is very good at hiding his feelings. With that, the men meet in Hectors antechamber, and discuss the details of the mission. Xaero listens intently as Hector and Arian relay what they know.
