Ash Sea Chronicle
Voice of the Ashlanteans

The Chronicle was first established by Landesred Stromsfiord. It has since endured an erratic history of publication, though its quality never fell despite the many challenges and obstacles thrown in the way. In recent times, the Chronicle has been managed solely by Wolfram Gunnar and funded by House Osha. The Chronicle now sees occasional publication in service of the vast Ashlantean diaspora.

In memory of Keiichi Hyral

One of the Ash Sea Islands best known and most cherished daughters fell in battle over the weekend, marking perhaps one of the darkest moments for the Ashlantean people since King Lelnor was slain. Lady Keiichi Hyral died defending Twillen, capital of the Beluaterran realm of Mesh. For those that knew Lady Keiichi, the loss leaves a hole that can never be bridged. Though knowing her fascination with the peculiar situation in Beluaterra and her outstanding courage, she probably wouldn't have had it any other way.

If ever the Ashlantean nobility were reunited and they were invited to name but one amongst them who personified everything about being an Ashlantean, you can guarantee that Keiichi would come first in that contest by a frightening margin. Her outgoing and friendly demeanour led to a generosity of spirit that quickly saw all Ashlanteans who met her gain a new friend. Indeed, from the very moment she arrived in Ser'quea, Keiichi was at the heart of a never ending storm of activity. It's hard to imagine the Duchy of Aja becoming such a vibrant and important part of the Ash Sea Islands for so long without the immediate presence of a young Keiichi, no matter the awe inspiring leadership of one Duke Moses McGahee.

Of course, Keiichi was never stingy with her high spirits and whenever meeting with allies or even enemies in service of one campaign or another, she would make friends there too. Little wonder then, that Keiichi found love over in Falasan with the honourable Omerus Killins, or that her escapades at Atamaran tournaments have become the stuff of legends. The word is that Atamaran tournaments have never been the same since the absence of Keiichi and Fox Talks, the tournament paper inspired by Keiichi's mischievous and lovable pet fox Kaya, which has caused almost as much havoc itself throughout Atamara!

Make no mistake however, when the time for battle came, Keiichi would be one of the most determined and enthusiastic nobles in the war. Fighting as a Hero, she has been veteran of countless formidable conflicts and some of the largest battles ever fought in Atamara. Likewise, although she pointedly avoided most titles and positions of leadership (despite the efforts of many an Ashlantean monarch to give her the recognition she deserved), when Keiichi spoke others sat up and listened to the measured and sensible advice she offered.

Upon arriving in Beluaterra, several months after the fall of the Ash Sea Islands, one of Keiichi's first thoughts was to catch sight of daimons and get stuck into battle once more. Later, in Mesh, she would get her wish, participating in the liberation of Athol Margos. Malice Osha would later receive a severed daimonic arm in a box, with a note about how exciting and interesting the adventure had been. This is just one happy memory of a myriad I and others have experienced knowing or simply knowing of this remarkable woman. With the loss of the Keiichi Hyral, the world is without doubt a good shade darker and more dismal than it ever was before.

Keiichi Hyral: born Mraulaxon, Far East; began Career, Ser'quea, Ash Sea Islands 01.09.05; appointed Marchioness of Worav 25.10.06; founded Fox Talks 17.01.07; died Twillen, Mesh 10.07.10.
