BREAKING NEWS: MALICE, KING OF ASH SEA ISLANDS

The Honorable Malice, Baron of Mapo has been crowned King of Ash Sea Islands receiving 29.2% of the vote in a hotly contested decision. The Honorable Talius Sargeras, former King, received a substantial 21.3% of the vote. Long Live King Malice, Long Live our fair realm.

Falasan Declares War on Abington

Falasan has supported ASI in its efforts to recover the islands and has proven a good and honorable friend. Many troop leaders in ASI feel a great debt of gratitude toward Falasan. But now Falasan has declared war on Abington for its own reasons and for its own honor and this newspaper will support them.

Influx of Troop Leaders

Many new soldiers and leaders have chosen to take up arms on behalf of ASI. Many of these are refugees from the colony of Kybcyell or those from other realms who wish to raise their swords against Abington.

Miscommunication in Wynford

Confusion on the battlefield led to an unexpected, and bitter, defeat in Wynford. With so many new units in the armies, communication and coordination suffered. New troop leaders and old hands as well performed poorly leading to an uncoordinated and fragmentary insertion of forces into the battle and failure to take advantage of defensive fortifications. Thankfully, the battle took place on enemy territory rather than on the home ground. ASI has a long history of military excellence and precision on the battlefield. Efforts are underway to correct the problem and assure that it does not recur. ASI simply cannot afford to rely on numbers alone without reference to quality.

Manu, Marshall of Sullenport Steps Aside

Lord Manu's stormy tenure as Marshall of Sullenport has ended with his resignation. Lord Manu encountered various criticisms for his leadership style and vocal manner. Despite his active nature and his obvious desire to serve, he was unable to gain traction with the rank and file and wisely set aside his ambitions temporarily for the good of the realm. Some of the criticisms had merit, but some were the children of overheated emotions. Regardless of differences, one cannot criticize Lord Manu's zeal to serve his realm.

Gabriel Leaves Abington, Finds Forgiveness in ASI

The much despised Gabriel, former King of Abington, has left that realm and joined the realm of Darka. Abington newspapers indicated that he was charged with treason there. Word was out on the streets in ASI that Gabriel was in trouble there and was seeking a new home. This shocking news led to various discussions about whether Gabriel should be offered refuge in ASI. Amazingly, the general sentiment seemed to be that this man, greatly responsible for ASI's "Time of Troubles", should be granted refuge, sanctuary, and a second chance. Before the debate could become reality, Gabriel found a new home in Darka.

King's Frustration Spurs Political Change

King Doc's Revenge Primus has informed the realm that political change may be needed. The King has indicated that diplomatic issues are at a standstill and that it is difficult for him to push forward. Much debate has taken place in ASI as to potential successors should the King step aside. Some of this has been borne out of the rhetoric against the King by Abington's leadership. King DRP has been so reviled in Abington that it would be almost impossible for him to make any diplomatic forays that had the slightest chance of being viewed rationally.

Oddly enough, King DRP has not been part of the growing "hard-line" faction against Abington, though he is portrayed that way within Abington itself. The Abington leadership may find that it has to deal with the REAL hardline faction soon and might regret their mud-slinging against King DRP.

Count Norel Defeats Richard of Abington in A Duel to the Death

A duel was held between the honorable Richard of Abington and Norel, Count of Yacon. Richard fought in the place of Aeneas of Abington who declined challenge. The honorable Richard received nothing but praise from Norel and the ASI rank and file for his actions and most honorable death. A letter was sent by Count Norel to Aeneas placing ignoble fault for the death of Richard on Aeneas.

Editorial

(this editorial is the opinion of the editor)

Much has occurred in ASI in the last weeks. A defeat in Wynford. A Marshall stepping down for the unity of the realm. A potential succession in the Monarchy. Many new troop leaders finding refuge in ASI. The declaration of war by Falasan against Abington. A certain level of forgiveness towards the former King Gabriel. Where to begin!

In regards to Lord Manu, this editor cannot say that he has refrained from criticism. In fact, Lord Manu banned this editor from his headquarters and refused his messengers after harsh words. Nonetheless, Lord Manu has served and that is admirable. Lord Manu stepped aside for the sake of unity and that is admirable. Lord Manu has took on the mantle of mentor, and that is admirable So those who have criticised Lord Manu should not toss him aside for all time. Nor should he be positioned as the scapegoat for everything that has occurred or occurs in the future. We go forward and should perhaps all be humbled.

In regards to the defeat in Wynford. The table was set, and the meal was served. Unfortunately, miscommunication spoiled the party. We have no criticism of the plan, the strategy, or the excellent maneuvering and logistics required to bring a favorable battle. It was the tactical communication that spolied the party. Thankfully, this is only one piece and can be repaired.

This editor was amazed at the level of mercy and sympathy offered Gabriel of Abington by this realm. It speaks well of our nobles that they were willing to offer their most hated enemy a place amongst them. I must admit that I had my reservations but softened as I heard the arguments of my fellows. My anger is dulled and my respect and admiration for this realm increased. Mercy is the quality of the gentleman and the currency of honor. I have learned much.

Our friends in Abington view our King as their most malignant foe. This just goes to show how little these realms really know of each other. King Doc's Revenge has pursued his own course and it has not been hostile to Abington. The King has suffered much criticism for being "too soft" and "too willing" to give Abington the benefit of the doubt. In the end, King DRP was caught between Abington and ASI and left with nowhere to go. Perhaps his legacy will be better understood in hindsight, even in Abington.
