Kingdom of Arcaea

Having originally stretched from the peaks of Ahael and the river Lenaz, the realm of Arcaea has seen great fluctuation in her borders over the centuries that the duchal seats of Nocaneb and Remton have seen prominence. From the cool forests and valleys of the meandering Raen Duin to the more temperate climates of the recently annexed territories belonging to Talex and Topenah, the landscape is rich with history and a proud culture steeped in the fiery passion and strength of belief that instills the people to war and to worship. The iron of the hills is held in the same high esteem as the mysteries of the woods to the people of Arcaea. These woodsmen and plain dwellers have seen war in all its forms, and even those in the west who had once been Ethialan readily fight for Arcaea, although this can be attributed more to the tyrannical mismanagement of Ethiala's final days than the pride in their conquerors.

For the most part, Arcaea can be divided into four major regions; Sartan's March in the east, the Central Plain's consisting of Topenah and the border barons in the north-west, the southern mark guarded by Ysolla's keep in Talex, and the Raen Duin river valley in the center of the kingdom. From the north and east come the majority of the realm's food. A trade in dyes, fine wood, and base and precious metals flourishes through the rugged steppes. The cities of Talex and Remton are famous for having some of the finest smiths and armourers on the continent, procuring quality ore from the mountains of Sasat, and the rocky hills of Lantzas and Arempos, yielding a vast source of wealth and providing the elite forces that the Kingdom of Arcaea has been founded on. There is a fierce competition to whom can provide the better soldiers, although to make up for the slight advantage in armanents, the woodsmen of Talex and those volunteers who come from Ornaz maintain a vigorous training regime uncommon for soldiers of the ranks.

Furthermore, these lands are filled with memories. Ruins. Signs of the brutal wars that have ravaged the broken towns, cities and homesteads that dot the grasslands and hide between the trees, emptied by the fire of battle as houses were torched and when brave men and women abandoned their homes to take up the sword and the spear...

Arcaea's Bastions

The White Spire - Nocaneb's mighty fortress, its tallest tower giving an unrivaled view of the surroundings, fell into ruin under the rule of Sartania, but Duchess Edara's diligence saw it restored to its former glory.

Castle Lantze - An unimpressive keep, deep in the barrens of Lantzas, where the Baron resides. The walls are falling into disrepair, but the interior is well furnished.

Ysolla's Keep - Amidst the mix of old Arcaean, Taith Aenilian and Ethialan architecture in the old quarter of Talex, Ysolla's Keep stands as an impressive symbol uniting the various elements of the forest city's rule.

Notable Establishments

The House of Silk and Light - Situated in Nocaneb, the House is one of the finest brothels in Arcaea; owned by Lady Harmony.

Lantzas' House of Healing and Records - With one of the most treasured libraries in the Far East, the House is a center of scholarship in the north, training many of the finest healers around.

Geographical Features

Raen Duin - A mighty river whose name means "Crooked River" in an old tongue, it carrys trade from inland Arcaea to the open sea. At its base in Sasat is rumoured to be a holy spring, much treasured by followers of the Aenil.

Sartan's March - One of the old names given to the woods east of Remton, this forest has been many times drenched with the blood of Sartanian and Arcaean soldiers alike. Although the name is an archaic one with roots in a bloodier era, some of the primeval parts of the forest still hold a sinister darkness.

The Central Plains - Once these vast, golden fields lay at the heart of the old Arcaean empire, but today they are at the edge of their expanding borders. Through the regions of Lantzas and Arempos pass the grain and cloth of the west with the timber and minerals of the east.
