Damian Appointed High Marshal, Gauihu Elected King, Magnus the Mighty Elected Arch Priest

Gauihu, best known as the Arch Priest of Abington (and who also previously held the position of Count of Wynford, Count of Anchorinn, Marshal of the Queen's Blackguard, and Minister of the People), was elected King after his wife the Queen abdicated.

Although three individuals put themselves forth for the throne - Magnus the Mighty, Duke of Wayburg; Callisto, Duchess of Suville and Royal Treasurer, and Gauihu - Callisto backed out of the election during the campaign for reasons concerning time and publically cast her vote for Gauihu. Magnus the Mighty also changed his mind, and decided instead to run for the soon-to-be-open position of Arch Priest, also casting his support for Gauihu.

In the week preceding the abdication of Queen Armitage III, Xuanye, citing personal disagreements with contemporary foreign policies, stepped down from the position of High Marshal. In his place, Marshal Damian was appointed. Of the previous government, only Callisto now remains.

Although Callisto did not intend to run, a slip-up attributed to lazy scribes meant she was still a viable candidate. Gauihu won with 48% of the vote, although Callisto in this manner also received 32% of the vote. It is noteable that Callisto, as Duchess of Suville, is in fact Gauihu's liege.

Invasion of Atamara!

Undead and Monsters have been spotted all throughout Atamara, in a similar fashion to rumors of invasions of the East Continent and other distant lands. At this time, undead hordes have been sighted in Carelia (lead by one known only as "Wandering"), Cagilan Empire, and in Abington (lead by "Meandering"). A horde of monsters has also been spotted in Falasan.

Citing such drastic and unprecedented threats, Gauihu dispatched a letter to all Rulers of all Realms on Atamara:

Rulers of Atamara,

We are living in a time of unprecedented threat. At this time, I believe that Falasan, Carelia, Cagilan Empire and Abington have been host to armies of either the walking dead or horrible beasts. Two mysterious names, "Meandering" and "Wandering," are also rumored to actually lead these hordes.

From various nobles of my realm, I understand that this is already occurring in the East Continent and Beluaterra, and that Atamara is simply the most recent target for this onslaught.

If I may be so bold, I believe this is not a time for continuing warfare. To add to the number of corpses, in a time when corpses get up, walk about, and attack purposefully in vast armies against even the mightiest citadels of our lands, would seem to be especially unwise.

Abington is not afraid; we can handle what we've seen ... so far. But for all we know, this is just the beginning.

Thus, I am extending an offer of cease-fire to Prime Minister Vengence, in the hopes that, despite our differences, we can set them aside long enough to focus on this new and unusual threat. For although militarily it may be possible to make war under these circumstances, I and the people of Abington believe it would be dishonourable and self-defeating. This may well not just be a threat to my Realm, nor to yours, but to all Atamara, perhaps all Realms of all the Lands.

So I beseech you all... take care.

Cagilan Empire, Tara, Talerium, Carelia Declare War on Redspan

With the undead threat slightly subsided, four realms including Redspan's recent ally Carelia have declared war and began an assault on Stargard.

According to Vengence of CE, the reason for declaring war is Tony disrespected every ruler here ... sent assassins to assault me and other nobles of my realm ... broke our peace treaty.

However, according to Captain of Talerium, his reason is due to your support for Abington. It is no longer possible to treat you both separately, when you act as one entity, so you should therefore no longer enjoy the benefits of aiding Abington while having no risk associated with it. You help our enemy too substantially by acting as a ring of protection for them, no longer. You block us from our enemy, you become an obstacle.

For Jonathan of Tara, Tara is above all a faithful ally. CE, for whatever the reason, we will support you in this cause.

Kronos gave no reason, but it is clear from his earlier letters expressing a desire to "increase the power" of his realm, that this was what he meant - at the expense of the allies he betrayed.

Insults, Threats, Slander from Kronos

After betraying the Federation, declaring war on Abington and Redspan, and then betraying even the short peace that those realms offered by attacking Redspan recently with conquest in mind, Kronos offered insults, threats, and slander and calls it diplomacy.

In several demeaning and poorly-written letters, Kronos called Gauihu a "coward," "stupid," a "lier" <sp>, and swore that he was a "dead man but don't know it yet."

Feeling particularly angry, Kronos then insulted the entire Realm of Abington (evidently for the crime of having been betrayed), and "publicly derided the people, government and ancestors of Abington, and declared them to be evil people devoid of soul and undeserving of mercy."

Of course, nobody with half a brain outside his realm falls for these cheap rhetorics, but his own people have reportedly gone into a frenzy.

Tony Steps Down; War Continues

King Tony of Redspan stepped down from office, but despite the Cagilan Empire's claims that one reason for the war was his particular insults, they remain unwilling to even discuss peace with Redspan's new ruler, Shamus.

According to Vengence, "Does it really matter who is elected? Has anyone in Red Span ever been any different?"

Captain of Talerium called it an act of cowardice, going so far as to allude to say it was "one of the most cowardly things I've seen since the time of North Darka, with over 12 regions, wanted us to gang up on South Darka, who had 6."

One wonders how Captain can feel that 12+ regions versus 6 is cowardice, but 65 regions versus 28 is not.

Duke Grand Poobah Killed in Battle

After High Marshal Damian was captured, a disasterous attempt to retake Stargard resulted in the death of Duke Grand Poobah, Marshal of the Sudfern Reconnoiter Army. The hero fell even while he took command of the remaining allied forces, pursuing what he doubtless knew to be a lost cause, with bravery and honour.

He was mourned by all Abington, and is survived by his son, Grand Poobah Jr.

"This is a sad day," declared Sir Valos of Narville, whose condolances were echoed by Lefsuet, Marshal of the Protector's Army, Lion El'Jonson, Lady Mia, Duke Magnus the Mighty, Sir Dubeusec of Riverholm, Sir Best222 of Lanston, Sir Ralph The Thirteenth of Stoneville, Marquis Illyrien of Webgard, Queen Armitage III, King Gauihu, Sir Dunn of Wayburg, Sir Davis of Lanston, Sir Eragon of Wayburg, Lady Feivel of Matakonis, Yaginaka, Sir An'ton of Riverholm, Sir sycheus of Wayburg, Priest Yal'rassia of the Pantheist Path, Priest Taran of the Aristoi Atamarists, Lady Amz, Lady Alyssa, Sir Yvaeni of Suville, Lord Proximus, and many others, including illustrious nobles of various foreign Realms.

The death sparked waves of anger throughout the realm, leading some to propose a referendum advocating to "let Redspan die." King Gauihu was quick to assert that, regardless of any referendum, Abington would not abandon its ally or turn its back on the Federation. This referendum, however, failed to gain even 6% of the nobles support, and most nobles rightly saw that Redspan was not to blame for the hero's death.

A week or so after the funeral, King Kronos declared that "By the way,it was a great day the day that this scum met the death. Gauihu, please forward my curses to his family."
