Mythos

It is not known for certain how long the Zuma have inhabited Dwilight, or what their origins are. It is known, however, that they predate the earliest settlers significantly. They are very likely indigenous people to the continent. It is also said that they are not the only ones who have lived on Dwilight for many ages.

Outlanders tell tales of beings that they claim to be similar in kind to those they or their kin have encountered elsewhere. Some accounts are more correct than others, while some are completely inaccurate stories that demonstrate humanity's ability to create wild fantasies. The truth, however, is often much more bizarre.

Rumors

Gossip spreads among humanity like a flame amongst dry leaves. Many are blatantly false, but even in the most outrageous fiction, there is some truth.

There are tales told about ignorant outlanders trying to lay claim on regions they clearly had no rights to own. There are tales about how the Zuma are physically stronger and mentally more durable than outlander settlers. There are also tales about phenomena unexplainable through familiar means.

Rumor has it that outlanders have made contact with certain beings whom they thought to be of the same kind as those that they or their kin had encountered in another land. There are rumors that these are worshipped as the Zuma's deities.

Some appear wholly inhuman and monstrous, while others take forms similar to any other human, save for some small differences.

Borders

The concept of borders is slightly different for the Zuma. A glance on the map shows no banners marking the regions of the Zuma. While the actual reasons are fairly complex and require an intimate understanding of the culture, generally, there is not so much an idea of fixed borders as outlander realms typically practice, but regions of influence. Distinctions are more often drawn on the tribal level or by geographical features, and arbitrary borders are non-existent.

Culture

Zuma

As the name implies, Zuma Coalition is a confederacy of sorts among various "tribes" of natives. There are differing cultures depending on the region and locale. For example, the tribes of the Root badlands, Overroot and Underroot, are mostly nomadic hunters, although the tribes settled around the Root river have more sedentary villages focused around fishing and agriculture.

There are specific roles, or jobs, or castes, however one wishes to call them, among the Zuma. They have their priests, merchants, soldiers, craftsmen, and everything that would be expected in any other human society. An individual's occupation is denoted by unique markings on the forehead, with quantity of markings indicating one's skill in that profession.
