The House of Striga

The Striga are a noble family hailing from the Dragon Isles of Dwilight.

Members of the House are notable for their exceedingly pale skin and nearly ethereal features. This is contrasted by lush, silky hair (usually red or black) and piercing grey eyes. They are not a friendly family. Striga Scions more often than not have cold and hard personalities. However, they are not impolite and will entreat allies with the necessary decorum. The Striga are a taciturn House, not prone to being overly social with their peers.

Their family name, striking physical characteristics and aloof behaviour have given rise to dark rumours that perhaps there is more to the Striga than meets the eye. If they are aware of these furtive whispers then the House cares little of them, as the Striga have never addressed the issue.

Warfare

When called to war, the Striga don intimidating gothic full plate coloured the blackest of jet. A Striga Scion's intricately embellished set of armour will often be paired with a thick cloak of rich crimson. The sallet helm is usually chosen for its excellent face and head coverage.

Most opt to wield a blade as their weapon of choice. This commonly takes the form of the elegant basket-hilted reiterschwert or the tactically flexible hand-and-a-half bastard sword.

Striga Scions are competent riders who emphasize mounted swordsmanship. Minor nobles who serve with the Striga are often equipped as reiters. These cavalry go to battle wielding straight-bladed sabres. The riders are clad in half plate consisting of helm, breastplate, shoulder guards, arm and thigh armor, while the legs are protected by thick riding boots. The horses are generally unarmoured for speed and maneuverability.

By contrast, smallfolk foot levies that bear House Striga's colours are often poorly equipped. The Scions provide their soldiers with simple steel helms and kite shields, but weaponry must be sourced by the troops themselves. Polearms such as spears, glaives or bills are the norm as decent swords are often too expensive for the common man to acquire.
