The legend that is being told among some of the members of the House, and the same members believe it with all their being, is that the black dragon used to roam the vast skies over Dwilight, far before the native Dwili became its denizens. It was the sole sovereign of all creatures, for no other living being could match its wrath and power, its burning fire, its colossal claws and its viperous tale. It was a creature sent from God, and a God it eventually became. When the beast fell, and none could tell from whom or how, its body was severed by the most powerful noble families who used the remains to mix the dragons blood with their own, absorbing its powers and becoming unnaturally strong in all of their endeavors. As was earlier emphasized, some members of House Velaryon claim that their ancestors and forefathers took the head, the most powerful of the dragons body, which in return granted the entire noble line powers that others could barely comprehend.

House Velaryion rose from the central parts of Dwilight, the exact region of their origin unbeknownst to others although the city of Eidulb is listed as the official place of roots for the family. This is so because the first of the family was first seen there; Balon the Frozen, who earned his nickname for the folly he made whilst trying to trick a wizard on the island of Libidizzed, and in return got turned to ice. His ice sculpture is supposedly still hidden somwhere on this central island, some say in the dungeons beneath the city, although a far more likely fate for Balon is that he became food for something or someone.

Velaryons are a new family but their sigil looks familiar to older historians throughout the realms of the living. Black dragon, shrouded in purpure, resembles the tales that originate from the outskirts of the world; tales of times when the shadow of the dragon covered the earth and the skies.

It was a creature sent to represent God.
