The Arms of Vatrona

Geographic

Vatrona is a stronghold located at the Gate to the North. The ancient center of Vatrona is flanked by the Mountains of Jedinchel. It has long been a trading place for many goods, because of it's excellent situation between the North and the landlocked Sea of Vozzessdor. Unfortunately, the undead invasion halted trading, and Vatrona is just a shadow of what it once was.

Weather

Vatrona is a region with hot days in the summer, cold days in the winter. The mountains block the clouds in the summer, so the weather stays nice. But in the winter the clouds come down from the north, where there are no mountains to halt their inexorable march South. In the winter, ice cold days keep the local populace indoors. This is especially true during January when the temprature never rises above freezing all day long. That is why alcoholic drinks are popular, when the people stay in the caves in the winter.

Economy

The monsters have been very devastating in Vatrona, and there is no economy left. The population is about 1800, and still growing. The maximum amount of people that can live in Vatrona is 5600, therefor it is more a military region.

Recent History

Vatrona has long been a stronghold desired by several of its neighboring realms. Long ago, it was the capital of Ar Agyr, but with the coming of the Second Invasion, the realm of Ar Agyr collapsed and Vatrona was conquered by the monsters.

The stronghold remained independent, rogue, for a quite some time before the Kingdom of Old Grehk managed to annex the ancient duchy for the crown.

Thalmarkin, in a war with their mother realm of Old Grehk, fought constantly to regain the stronghold many times during the course of the War of the Nine Realms. Just prior to the Fourth Invasion, they succeeded it in wresting control from Old Grehk.

However, after a long march south, the forces of the Undead razed the city walls and claimed it for themselves. The forces of Old Grehk then pushed forward and reclaimed their old Duchy and rebuilt it to its former glory. It was traded to Thalmarkin in exchange for a bounty of new lands gained from the destruction of Sint and Hemaism.
