When the original four Xenotls first came upon the offspring of Izalotl they were surprised by their power and forced to flee. Shortly after, as all know, the god Faotl created man from the ocean, and Xeataotl was made into the night stars when he almost destroyed Faotl's creations, and Teatoatl became the sun . Faotl created a new man, learning from his past mistakes. This time, they died once more, this time becoming the birds. A third time, Faotl reated man, this time from the dirt, but these were doomed and became the monkeys. At last, alone, Caraoatl created man from his own blood after killing the remaining Xelatls. These humans eventually became the lizards when Caraoatl was slain by the surviving Xenotls.

From the bones of the slain Xelatls the Xenotls created man to fight the curse lain upon them by Caraoatl. At first, the surviving Xenotls believed all of the Xelatl to be slain, but this turned out to not be so. In their wake new gods arose, and the Xenotl feared them once again. The fear of the new man, fighting amongst themselves, and the fear of the gods rose into the skies, to a new place, and there the god Xerotl was born as the answer. From his throne of shadows he taught man to impose order on others, and from there to create kingdoms and prosper. He taught man of Strength and new ways to fight war. To fight with honour.

The other Xenotls saw this and were pleased. They turned to one another and said "Xerotl has done great things and allowed man to prosper. There are now more than we need to satiate the curse, so let us reward him." And to Xerotl the remaining Xenotl gave domain over a portion of the souls of man who were not needed to sate their thirst to do with as he pleases.

With these souls Xerotl created his army to defend man from death by the hands of the new Xelatl, lest the Xenotl be left with no source of blood. The other Xenotl saw this and were pleased, so they turned to one another once more and said "Let us name Xerotl the Master of Armies, and allow him to defend Man from his throne of shadows."
