On Blood: Mankind's and the World's

The World's Blood

Mankind's Blood

Disasters

Every natural disaster is a product of the Bloodmoon's influence exerting itself forcibly against the world. The result is almost always violent and destructive. We as humans often personalize disasters, attributing them wicked and sinister personalities as if they were bent on destroying us. Their true purpose, however, is to provide widespread change to large swaths of land, redistributing the blood of the world in order to maintain universal balance. Because the world cannot seek balance like we humans, it depends on the Moon's facilitation, despite its occasional inability to comply with Moon's incredibly powerful influence.

How do We Advance in Spiritual Proximity to the Sun and Moon?

Spiritual proximity to the Sun requires a keen understanding of moderation, and an equally powerful feeling of contentedness. Nobles struggle in this pursuit because they live the majority of their lives in excess. Despite having too much, they always seem to want more. Commoners struggle similarly because they live a life of survival; most only have a few silvers to their names. When faced with the Sun, a continuous source of influence, both walks of life have their respective challenges. A noble might want to consume as much influence as he can, while a commoner might not be able to cope with all the excess. To help with these potential issues, moderating everyday desires such as hunger, greed, and lust can help dramatically. If our lives are lived in moderation, then moderating the Sun's influence not only becomes easier as a result, but incredibly satisfying as well.

Spiritual proximity to the Moon is incredibly difficult to achieve because the line between insanity and spiritual proximity is a thin one. Devotees must emulate the ability to embrace, and subsequently act upon sudden impulses not in line with established thoughts or desires. Moreover, total control must be maintained during each impulse, carrying out the ensuing action without compromise. A devotee must try his hardest to become a paragon of change. For example, a man is asked if he would like to ride home by horse. The man wants to return home quickly, and to him quickly also means safely (fearing bandits along the way.) However, his mind wanders for a brief moment as he contemplates the idea of walking. Already, the man has failed to achieve spiritual proximity to the Moon. A true devotee would have chosen to walk immediately after receiving the idea, without doubt or hesitation. Not only is this difficult, but to refrain from questioning the implications down the road requires devotion equal to that of a madman's.

By What Means do the Sun and Moon Direct the Course of We Mere Mortals?

Direction is an inadequate term to consider. For instance, the Sun grants sustenance to mankind, rather than direction. It is our most basic need: the ground upon which every path is lain. The Moon is quite the opposite. It is the avatar of misdirection, the sudden turn, the fork in the road. It offers new paths previously thought unimaginable. Only when the Bloodstars are considered can we really discuss direction. For that I recommend Prophet Mathurin Hossenfeffer's publication.

On the Mutability and Immutability of the Sun and Moon

The Purpose of Reformation

The Church of Unitary Astroism seeks to uphold three core principles: a clergy by the devout, a clergy for the devout, and a clergy for clergy's sake. The first maintains that all members of the clergy be pious and devout. It does not advocate for the king, the knight, or the nobleman. The poorest man can ascend above the richest, if he proves himself capable. Should neither merit the position, it remains empty. A clergy for the devout supports the idea that the clergy ought to serve the natural functions of the Church, so that all faithful members are guaranteed a proper place of worship. The Church does not serve the ambitions of those leading it, no matter the justification. The latter principle mandates that clergy exists for the sake of all believers. Without clergy, many of us would live in ignorance; the principle does not mandate a full body, but a functioning one at minimum.

The Church of Sanguis Astroism forsook these principles when blasphemy was given free reign to rule its ranks. Elders became secular authorities who sought power and patronage through their positions. Faithful knights roared and bickered as if they were religious equals. Convicted heathens were crowned prophets. Auto-da-fe's were blindly executed without second thought, which sent thousands to their deaths. Every facet of the Church of Sanguis Astroism had failed because there was no moral code to keep the faithful in check.

Do not misinterpret me, and believe that we owe the Moon, Sun, and Stars 'proper' moral behavior through worship. They are far beyond human understanding and emotion. They do not 'care' if we kill one another, raise our own temples, or preach heresy to the masses. It is our duty alone to maintain sanity and proper worship, so that humanity as a whole can be enlightened. Ignorance perpetuates confusion, heresy creates chaos, and hate strives for a world lead by brutes and savages. We as enlightened Astroists must ward humanity against these evils, for the prosperity of us all.
