BattleMaster offers realms several different systems by which to attribute titles. Here's a short explanation:

Simple

The simple system is very easy:

  • Dukes are Dukes
  • Lords of Imperial regions are Viscounts
  • Lords of other regions are Barons

Classic

This is the system we used for 6 years; many players grew used to it, so we keep it around. Titles are based on the region type you command:

  • City or Stronghold: Duke
  • Townsland: Marquis
  • Woodland/Rural: Count
  • everything else: Baron

Size

This system grants titles by the (nominal) population of your region:

  • Dukes are dukes, irrespective of size
  • > 12000 peasants: Marquess
  • 6000 - 12000 peasants: Earl/Countess
  • 2000 - 6000 peasants: Viscount
  • < 2000 peasants: Baron

Complex

This system grants titles by a combination of population, region type, fortification level and possibly other factors, in a way that only the realm bureaucrats really understand.

Republican / Democratic

These newfangled things should be avoided, as they only lead to the peasants getting ideas above their station.

  • Republican:

City: Governor. Everything else: Senator

  • Democratic(All lords(not sure)): Representative
