For the old system (prior to new hierarchy/estates/dukeship-lordship de-coupling of 2012), please refer to Title Systems Old.

BattleMaster offers realms several different systems by which to attribute lordship titles. Here's a short explanation:

In all systems, holders of a dukeship are Dukes/Duchesses.

Simple

The simple system is very easy:

  • Lords of Cities and Strongholds are Margraves/Margravines
  • Lords of other regions are Counts/Countesses

Classic

Significant adjustments to the old system that was used for 6 years to accommodate lordship/dukeship split.

  • City, Stronghold or Townslands: Margraves/Margravines
  • everything else: Barons/Baronesses

Size

This system grants titles by the (nominal) population of your region. In descending population size:

  • Margraves/Margravines (Over 12.000 population)
  • Earl/Countess (From 6.000 to 12.000 population)
  • Viscount/Viscountess (From 2.000 to 6000 population)
  • Baron/Baroness (Under 2000 population)

Complex

This system grants titles by a combination of population, region type, fortification level and possibly other factors, in a way that only the realm bureaucrats really understand. In descending importance:

  • Margraves/Margravines (Population over 20.000 or city/townsland region type with over 10.000 population or population over 5.000 with fort at level 5+)
  • Earl/Countess (Population from 10.000 to 20.000 or city/townsland region type having a population from 6.000 to 10.000 or population from 3.000 to 5.000 with fort at level 3+)
  • Viscount/Viscountess (Population from 5.000 to 10.000 or townsland region type or population from 2.000 to 3.000 and fort at level 2+)
  • Baron/Baroness (The rest)

Republican / Democratic

These newfangled things should be avoided, as they only lead to the peasants getting ideas above their station.

Republican:

  • City or Stronghold: Governors.
  • Everything else: Senators.

Democratic:

  • City or Stronghold: Governors.
  • Everything else: Representatives.
