Thulsoma/Knights Of Holy Iron Chains

The infamous military of Thulsoma, made famous in dozens of victorious campaigns against far larger opposing armies and empires and winning battles against near impossible odds. It has international repute for its success and its fighting prowess, so much so opposing realms have historically even attempted to recruits the Knights to their service, the Knights are largely recognised by many realms as one of the greatest armed forces on Dwilight, in which, only truly overwhelming forces of all the leading powers on the continent, were able to achieve some form of victory against them. The Knights are largely identifiable by their distinctive steel armour designs and the full face helmets worn by the infantry in battle; they are also easily identifiable by the banner they march under, which is the Holy Háligern, placed upon a rune background of the divine benedictions.

Service History

The Knights Of Holy Iron Chains first made their appearance in Dwilight, partaking in the first battle of the Saxon - Liberonite war, the first siege of Storms Keep, a battle that was gain international lauding for the Saxons, as the Liberal forces suffered a horrendous defeat, in which their King, their Royal Treasurer, one of their dukes and several lesser nobles were captured and the army entirely routed to very few Saxon losses. The army later gained its rightful place as an elite force of Dwilight, as they continued pile up the victories against the Liberite's, behind fortifications, or on open field, or even against fortified enemy positions, they scarcely lost a single engagement, save for a few lost skirmishes.

Divisions

The Knights Of Holy Iron Chains are highly regimented, firstly in the unit (and overall army) formations, they consist of multiple divisions, or "ēoredðrēat". All of them fly under the banners of the Holy Háligern first and foremost, but individual standards and heraldry are flown by the nobles to represent their house and troop, the shields wielded by the soldiers also bear an insignia at the choosing of the troop leader; armour and equipment however, was largely standardised by the armouries and weaponsmiths of Storms Keep to ensure perfect quality, and to allow for large stores of equipment to be made.

Storm Haerbann

The bulk forces of the Knights Of Holy Iron Chains, for all forces not specifically aligned to any other ēoredðrēat, they serve as the front line, non specialised soldiers in the Saxon armed forces. Mistakenly the term is sometimes interpreted as incorporating only Infantry, due to the Infantry Recruit Centre of the same name, but the term also incorporates the small archer forces of the Saxons.

RægelÞebn Comitanses

An ēoredðrēat directly under the command of Raviel Armityle, Storm Legate and Chieftain At Arms of Thulsoma, originally founded as the Hrēdmōnath Comitanses under Sigrun Lurdigala during the early stages of the war, it was later reformed from largely ranged forces, to elite Mixed forces of Infantry armed with specialised Pilum's that deliver a heavy volley before any Close Quarters engagement.

Blōdfāg Heofonic Feorhhyrde

An entirely Infantry based ēoredðrēat under the command of Ambrosius Aurelianus Brythonic, formed in the later days of the war as the secondary ēoredðrēat delegated to the defence of Heofon.

Gūðrinc Būtan Gemǣre

Formed in name and ideal after the end of the war, to represent the situation the Saxons found themselves in, an army without land or borders.
