In every land, in every age, there are always tyrants that will prey on those who are weaker than themselves. Given free reign, they will spread their lies across the land. They build empires on a foundation of deceit, manipulation, and boundless ambition. Left unchecked these tyrants will devastate East Island, and all it's inhabitants, in wars without end. The Kingdom of Perdan will not stand idly by while the East Island is led into ruin and destruction. The Rampant Lion will stand forth as a beacon of truth regarding the travails of Perdan as it seeks to oppose those who would bring destruction upon our lands. As events in Perdan unfold, they will be chronicled here so all people on the East Island have access to an accurate, fair accounting of the events taking place in our world.
The only thing necessary
for the triumph [of evil]
is for good men to do nothing.

Light of Fountain's General tortured
Arch Priestess Balkeese reported to Perdan today that Fontan has tortured the General of Light Fountain. Truly, warfare such as this bespeaks desperation and dishonour. Perdanites all over have become reminiscent of the recent Kavamar war in which torturing and espionage were their favourite passtimes. What will the fallout from this be, if any?

Love is in the Air
Count Magnus and High Priestess Tabatha have formalised their union in a beautiful ceremony in Nascot this past weekend. Prophet Shallow ministered the union as the tall viking, and petite priestess promised to devote the rest of their lives to one another. The ceremony was threatened by the arrival of Magnus' arch nemeses the Viking Kitties, but fortunately the Solarin family foiled their attempts. Much celebration and merriment followed the event, and in fact is still continuing in some areas of Nascot.

Why has Fontan declared war on Light of Fountain?
Merely moments after her election, Chancellor Lilith dropped diplomatic relations with Light of Fountain to war. So I thought I would try to uncover the most asked question, why is Fontan warring Light of Fountain? I have asked around to uncover this answer, but I can't say it is any clearer.

Firstly, Chancellor Lilith proclaims that Light of Fountain is not a legitimate realm. That they betrayed the mother realm through secession. What was Fontan thinking therefore when it signed a peace treaty with Light of Fountain? By doing this they gave validity to the realm of Light of Fountain by entering negotiations and signing the treaty that was to bring forth a friendship between the realms.

Second possible reason, the unexplained attacks across the LoF/Fontan border on murderous settings. Seems Fontan held a referendum on whether they should declare war for this reason, which returned a resounding, almost unanimous 'yes'. Are a few unordered skirmishes the reason for destroying Light of Fountain? Maybe more palpable.

Thirdly, this one was apparently handed to Chancellor Lilith by a helpful ruler. Could it be that they need a new city to finally fulfill their promise of founding New Coimbra? Nice afterthought, but an ironic reasoning to destroy a realm in order to resurrect one.

Now... the fourth reason I have had suggested. Fontan is bored, Fontan wants to broaden its already expansive borders and Light of Fountain is a weaker opponent. Muttered by most of the continent already, could this be the truth of the matter?

Four reasons, each equally unacceptable in my opinion - how will the continent react to this war? Which realms will standby and watch one realm expand its borders mercilessly, while another is destroyed? Only time will tell.

Update:

Two new reasons have surfaced to my knowledge, just showing how unclear the reasons for this war are:

Fifth, that Light of Fountain broke the treaty by not relocating. Well, no stipulations on timing that I can see, and Light of Fountain have followed the treaty to every letter of the word. Fontan/Treaties/Light of Fountain Formation

Sixth, and can they get any more absurd? The ex-Avamarian influence in Light of Fountain is enough reason for Fontan to war Light of Fountain. Even trying to ignore the fact that Fontan entered into discussions for a defensive alliance with Donna Ragna when she was Chancellor of KI AND ignoring the fact that Fontan offered them sanctuary after the destruction of their illegitimate realm on the islands.(1) Ignoring both these facts in which Fontan have extended friendship to the ex-islanders, there is also the point that only 8 LoF nobles are from the usurping realms. The rest of LoF are honourable nobles, who have upheld and honoured a treaty signed with their mother realm. So this is surely not the reason.

So again, which of the six reasons is it? Lets hope the murky waters surrounding Fontan's reasoning clear one day soon before they are clouded further with the blood of innocent men.
