headline = The Polarization of the East Island|

At first glance, this might look like a rather normal, uninteresting political map of the Island. There are several realms of varying sizes, distributed across the Island. Plenty of shared borders, and many chances for intrigue and conflict. That, however, would be a rather inaccurate first impression. Take a look at this map:

This map doesn't show individual realms. It shows the alliance and federated relationships of the Island. Notice the difference?

A few weeks ago, the realm of Sirion announced that they were forming a federation with Fontan. Two days later they followed this up with an announcement that they were also federating with Old Rancagua. Now, in addition to a large Souther Federation, we have another large Northern Federation.

Each of these federations are comprised of separate realms that are large and powerful in their own right. When taken together these nations for a much larger, and much more powerful federation. With the recent announcements by Sirion, Fontan, and Old Rancagua the northern end of the East Island is now locked together in an extremely powerful federation to rival that of the older Southern Federation.

What some nobles may not be aware of, however, is the relationship between these two massive federations. The northern and southern federations have extremely close ties to each other. Sirion is allied to all three of the southern federation realms. Fontan is allied with two of them, and Old Rancagua to one. What these additional alliances do is lock 75% of the island into one massive political entity.

The question we must all ask ourselves, is this: What happens when the nobles of this massive, island-dominating federation decide that what they have is not enough? What happens when they get bored with chasing rumors of monsters through the woods, and when the novelty of endless tournaments wears off? Where will they turn to find their next conquest? Does anyone really believe they will turn on each other, and break these massive super-federations?}}

headline = Kalmar Islands and Avamar Selective Dissolved|

article= In a long awaited event, the governments of Kalmar Islands and Avamar Selective have been officially dissolved. This momentous event has paved the way for the creation of a new and peaceful ream in the Islands. All remaining nobles still holding allegiance to the two realms have been declared officially rogue. In a gesture a good will, all former prisoners from these realms have been released and sent on their way to find a new home.}}

article = Perdan has entered into an alliance with Light of Fountain.  This development has come after repeated notice from Fontan, that although they grow frustrated with Light of Fountain occupying Fontan city, they will not dishonour their signed peace agreement that promises that neither realms will lower relations to one another from peace.

I personally see the new alliance between the two realms as an an indirect and bold warning from Perdan that it will not bystand any possible onesided war that Fontan is renowned for conducting.  Hooray for Perdan for continuing to be a "defender of the freedoms".}}

article = The Grand Treaty has expired. This grand collaboration of seven realms of the East Continent ended one of the longest wars in history. This treaty was a massive undertaking of compromise and negotiations among the realms of Sirion, Fontan, Perdan, Caligus, Yssaria, Itorunt, and Ibladesh. The treaty has , for the past four months, held most of the continent at peace, and allowed for the extermination of the occupational government of the Kalmar Islands. With the treaty expired and no sign of it being extended, many people are worried that the war will simply resume where it left off. While there have been general rumblings of turmoil along the eastern coasts, there has as yet been no firm information on the commencement of hostilities.}}

headline = The Brutality Continues|

article = For the past week, the judges of the Islands have embarked on a tour de force of terror. Supreme Judge Kamenos has been torturing every possible Perdanese noble that he can capture. To date, we have recorded nine separate torture sessions, including the following:

* Sir WAYLANDER

* Sir Maelg, Prince of Perdan, husband of Queen Evangeline

* Lady Tabatha, a priest of the Church of Humanity, tortured twice

* Lady Clarissa, former Queen of Perdan, tortured three times

In addition, Sir Remorse was tortured by Amreadil, the judge of Avamar Selective, twice.

This list does not include the torture of Sir Sinebrychoff by Chi'n of Kalmar Islands. That regrettable incident was punished when Chi'n surrendered himself to the custody of Perdan to be tortured for his brutal actions.

Update: Lady Clarissa has been tortured a fourth time, and Sir Maelg a second. This brings the total number of tortures by Kamenos to nine.}}

article = The walls of Chaos Temple failed to protect the usurpers a second time, as the waves of attacking soldiers from Perdan and Itorunt swarmed over the fortifications. The second wave of attackers completed the work begun by the brave first wave of attackers that destroyed a large portion of the walls. The second fierce round of battles resulted in several more nobles from both sides getting captured and wounded. One notable prisoner delivered to the dungeons under Perdan city was Lady Donna Ragna, former ruler of the Kalmar Islands.

Following the battle Lucifer Jr., a vile assassin in the employ of the Kalmar Islands and one time ruler of the same, attacked and stabbed Queen Evangeline of Perdan. Luckily the wound was minor, and Queen Evangeline is expected to make a rapid and complete recovery.}}

headline = The Assault on Chaos Temple Begins!|

article = The massed assault of forces from Perdan and Itorunt on the fortress of Chaos Temple has finally begun. 1,500 troops assaulted the fortress walls with numerous siege engines, against 1,041 defending troops. The battle raged for many hours, with the attackers eventually being pushed back. During the battle the fortifications were breached in several places, reducing their effectiveness from a fortress (5) to a stronghold (4). Most of the militia manning the walls were killed, and the remainder of the defending forces were decimated. The lack of population in the region, plus the wounding of the local Duke, will prevent the adding of more militia to reinforce the walls and the hiring of more troops by the nobles.

Many valiant nobles were wounded and captured on both sides. Two of the defending nobles were captured, including Fia, the Minister of Defense of Kalmar Islands. Twelve additional defending nobles were wounded, including Sir Lalakis, Duke of Chaos Temple, and Sir Kocur, Minister of Finances of Kalmar Islands.

Three Perdanese and one Itoruntian noble were captured, and 10 more wounded, including Countess Lily, Marshal of the army of Perdan's Murderous Wrath and Sir Nero, Count of Montauban. A few nobles of Perdan, who arrived a few hours too early, were captured in an early battle, including Lady Clarissa, former Queen of Perdan.

However, the saddest tragedy of the day was the death of Sir Garrick, Royal Treasurer of Itorunt. His mixed infantry were one of the last few attacking units to stay the field. His men were surrounded and overwhelmed. Sir Garrick, who had already suffered a prior wound in the battle, was not able to pull his men back before he suffered a fatal blow. Our most sincere condolences to his family.

The battle is expected to continue in a few hours. Several nobles who were not able to arrive for the first battle will be reinforcing the battered attackers. This second wave is expected to achieve an easy and quick victory.}}

TRL Header.png

In every land, in every age, there are always tyrants that will prey on those who are weaker than themselves. Given free reign, they will spread their lies across the land. They build empires on a foundation of deceit, manipulation, and boundless ambition. Left unchecked these tyrants will devastate East Island, and all it's inhabitants, in wars without end. The Kingdom of Perdan will not stand idly by while the East Island is led into ruin and destruction. The Rampant Lion will stand forth as a beacon of truth regarding the travails of Perdan as it seeks to oppose those who would bring destruction upon our lands. As events in Perdan unfold, they will be chronicled here so all people on the East Island have access to an accurate, fair accounting of the events taking place in our world.
The only thing necessary

is for good men to do nothing.

Why has Fontan declared war on Light of Fountain?
Merely moments after her election, Chancellor Lilith dropped diplomatic relations with Light of Fountain to war. So I thought I would try to uncover the most asked question, why is Fontan warring Light of Fountain? I have asked around to uncover this answer, but I can't say it is any clearer.

Firstly, Chancellor Lilith proclaims that Light of Fountain is not a legitimate realm. That they betrayed the mother realm through secession. What was Fontan thinking therefore when it signed a peace treaty with Light of Fountain? By doing this they gave validity to the realm of Light of Fountain by entering negotiations and signing the treaty that was to bring forth a friendship between the realms.

Second possible reason, the unexplained attacks across the LoF/Fontan border on murderous settings. Seems Fontan held a referendum on whether they should declare war for this reason, which returned a resounding, almost unanimous 'yes'. Are a few unordered skirmishes the reason for destroying Light of Fountain? Maybe more palpable.

Thirdly, this one was apparently handed to Chancellor Lilith by a helpful ruler. Could it be that they need a new city to finally fulfill their promise of founding New Coimbra? Nice afterthought, but an ironic reasoning to destroy a realm in order to resurrect one.

Now... the fourth reason I have had suggested. Fontan is bored, Fontan wants to broaden its already expansive borders and Light of Fountain is a weaker opponent. Muttered by most of the continent already, could this be the truth of the matter?

Four reasons, each equally unacceptable in my opinion - how will the continent react to this war? Which realms will standby and watch one realm expand its borders mercilessly, while another is destroyed? Only time will tell.

Update:

Two new reasons have surfaced to my knowledge, just showing how unclear the reasons for this war are:

Fifth, that Light of Fountain broke the treaty by not relocating. Well, no stipulations on timing that I can see, and Light of Fountain have followed the treaty to every letter of the word. Fontan/Treaties/Light of Fountain Formation

Sixth, and can they get any more absurd? The ex-Avamarian influence in Light of Fountain is enough reason for Fontan to war Light of Fountain. Even trying to ignore the fact that Fontan entered into discussions for a defensive alliance with Donna Ragna when she was Chancellor of KI AND ignoring the fact that Fontan offered them sanctuary after the destruction of their illegitimate realm on the islands.(1) Ignoring both these facts in which Fontan have extended friendship to the ex-islanders, there is also the point that only 8 LoF nobles are from the usurping realms. The rest of LoF are honourable nobles, who have upheld and honoured a treaty signed with their mother realm. So this is surely not the reason.

So again, which of the six reasons is it? Lets hope the murky waters surrounding Fontan's reasoning clear one day soon before they are clouded further with the blood of innocent men.
