Taron's Staff of Betrayal

Item was crafted by a sage. The location was Ansopen. Item was commissioned by Luc Tancred de Bardt (Freeman). Item is a weapon that gives +1 prestige. Condition was 99% when created.

The History Behind the Staff

After many years of living in the forests of Ansopen, Luc Tancred was quite familiar with the hermit Adlil who sometimes lived in the cave by the Cold River Falls. As he had many times before, Luc went to visit the old hermit and show him recent trophies from Luc's adventures. It was during one such visit that the old man's eyes lit upon the boar tusks, heretic's staff, and ancient tome that Luc had found... with a greedy gaze, the old man kept asking and wheedling Luc to give those items. The old man mumbled something about being tricked out of his book of lore and the getting of just deserts -- as well as something else about curses and cunning weapons.

The Staff

This menacing stave with a solid black teak shaft and shod in iron sports a bizarre sigil at its head, formed of boar tusks an iron. It seems to be a bearded face -- perhaps slightly reminiscent of Duke Valgar Reinhart of the Kingdom of Cathay on the Far East Island -- but topped with horns, as if with a demonic aspect. Covering the staff from top to bottom is a winding trail of faintly glowing violet runes across which dances a faint trace of electrical sparking.

Anyone seeing the staff was made to feel uneasy by its aura of menace.

Adventures with Taron's Staff of Betrayal

Upon acquiring this rare item, Luc Tancred immediately knew that Duke Valgar of the Kingdom of Cathay would be interested in it -- not least because the strange effigy upon it resembled the Duke so well.

Luc Tancred was tasked by Duke Valgar with repair of the staff during the War with Papania. Battle had taken its toll and the staff was damaged (50%). Knowing that old Adlil would know how to repair it, Luc Tancred returned to Ansopen and found the old man there. Using the metal components of the original staff, Adlil took a Heretic's Staff and imbued with the energy of the Staff of Betrayal, refashioning the artefact (81%).
