Malcolm had given orders for his retainers to meet him in Oligarch, and ridden to An Najaf after he'd dropped his unit in Viseu. He'd arrived with ample time to shop, fortunately, and among all the crafts available at the festival had been something quite appropriate for Kaylan...He'd gotten wind of her participation in the ceremony, which had focused his shopping for something she could display...

Before paying one of the local boys to lead the way, Malcolm quickly changed into a festival outfit, an attractive dark green with his characteristic silver trim. He imagined it would go well with Kaylan...And...For now...That was part of his plan. Maybe he would regret it later, but...

Malcolm stood, mostly relaxed, while the servants at the Count's estates went to inform Kaylan of his arrival and request for an audience. Now that he had his mind decided, it was easier to handle the situation. And, hopefully, more than just the situation...

Kaylan was discussing hair arrangements with a young woman when someone quietly knocked at the door. Her first thought was that she would receive a new and disturbing letter from Sir Hamilton, and she opened the door. The servant stood straight. “Sir Malcolm Bedwyr requests to speak with you Milady,” for some reason that made her more nervous than if she would have received a letter. So many thoughts rushed in her head at that moment. She was truly debating whether to see him or not.

Deciding she would, she motioned for the young woman to leave and indicated to the servant to lead the way. As she followed, she walked down the hallway, where many windows displayed the bright sunlight filtering through and noticed Malcolm waiting a short distance ahead. He looked handsome and she couldn’t help the smile on her face.

Malcolm smiled, and bowed.

"As lovely as ever, my lady. But...As I have noted before...Never sufficiently adorned in ways to compliment your loveliness..."

Malcolm pulled out a small, ovular package, and with a flourish knelt, offering it to her.

She smiled as he bowed, giving a small nod and blushed at his compliment. She had truly heard hundreds of them before, but for some reason whenever he said them, she felt different, almost shy as if truly not believing a word. Again, the uncertainty surrounded when he was in her presence.

“Thank you Sir Malcolm,” she said softly and not knowing what else to say she reached out to take the package, and he rose, nodding for her to open it. She did and when she saw what was inside, she looked up with surprise.

Malcolm grinned.

"I thought...Something to show that you were a fighter as well as a woman...A jeweled short-sword seemed appropriate. The blade is not the highest quality, but it was the best I could find on short notice...In the proper colors, that is. A silver handle with green gems...The scabbard, though, is the real gift."

He rose, and pulled the blade free.

"I'm sure you noticed its much higher quality, but the real trick is inside...The leather is not from any domesticated animal. It is from a particularly venomous monster variety...And it constantly secretes the poison still. If you are in a situation where you need to use the blade as anything other than adornment, you may only get one chance...A nick from the blade will paralyze any non-noble in seconds. Stab them full through, and their heart will stop instantly. It's a relic from an infiltrator who used to work for a cousin...But should serve you well, especially after I had it properly adorned when it came into my possession a few weeks ago."

Her blue eyes looked up with shock, she guessed to any regular woman the main focus would be the jewels and silver, but to her it was the knowledge of what it could do that fascinated her. It was a marvelous gift and she accepted it gracefully. “Thank you Malcolm,” she whispered as her hand traced the handle. KatalynFae’s voice returned, The future holds the possibility of changes that will give you the ones that are loyal to you and will hold you and keep you safe. Kaylan looked up curiously as if considering something and Malcolm’s eyes fixed on hers.

Malcolm smiled softly as he saw how much she enjoyed the present...And smiled wider as he saw what part her eyes were drawn to the most. He hoped she never needed it, but...Now, that was a curious look to her eyes...He wondered...

"I am glad you like it...And...I hope you would do me the honor of allowing me to attend the wedding on your arm. I rather fancy having every man save the groom envious of me..."

Malcolm grinned and winked at Kaylan. Let's see how it goes...

Blinking she stopped. She heard him, she just didn’t know what to say to him. A part of her wanted it so badly, but the other side was clearly resisting. What to do? She prayed for something or someone to save her, hearing a sudden noise she looked over her shoulder to see a servant approaching and her eyes widened at the escape. “I must go…” she said miserably and her hands reached out to touch his but quickly came back as if burned. “I must prepare and there is still so much to do still, please…” she took a shaky breath, “forgive me.” Her blue eyes turned apologetic and she turned away, not giving him a chance to say a word.

Malcolm held his breath as she fled, and waited until she was completely gone before venting it in a long, frustrated sigh. Well...So much for that theory.

He shook his head as he wandered out to the main festivities. Perhaps she would come around in time. For now, he needed to see if any of the other ladies present would accompany him to the wedding party...
