Rapael is a large, thickly wooded region, and it has the geographical distinction of being the second-northernmost region in the Far East. The climate of this region is characterized by warm, moist summers and cold, snowy winters.

Once completely covered by primeval forest, some of the land has been cleared for grazing but forests still blanket most of Rapael. All of this area is hilly, with many fast-flowing rocky rivers, and contains a number of forest types. Northern spruce and fir forests predominate to the north, with more deciduous forests to the south, and conifers along the coast. Characteristic animals include white-tailed deer, black bear, red fox, hare, porcupine, otter, wildcat, and squirrel. Wolves are the top predator. Numerous seabirds and migratory shorebirds inhabit the salt marshes and tidal flats along the coast.

The people of Rapael are woodsmen and fishermen, and live close to the land. They dress in furs and rawhides, and have strong tribal and clan loyalties. The Count of Rapael is considered the highest Clan Lord and is accorded great respect as a result.

Although Adgharhinism is their religion, the people of Rapael have blended it with the old customs and folklore, including the worship of numerous forest spirits and the local forest goddess. She is associated with the Adragharin goddess “Senith” the Lover, the Artist, the Mother, but here in Rapael she takes on her darker aspect as the Huntress. There is a large festival held in spring in her honour, with wooden masks depicting animal spirits worn during the three day event. The Temple of Adgharhinism in Rapael is chiefly dedicated to her worship, and is known as The Temple of the Huntress.
