A King Has Fallen

After finally succumbing the the ailments of being killed in battle, King Kay of Perdan was laid to rest forever in the region of Brive.

Roleplay from Raine Gildre
Raine stood in front of the temple in Brive, facing the gather of nobility who had come to attend the burial of their king. Past the temple grounds was another mass of minor nobility and commoners who had arrived to show their respect.

She took a breath and looked up.

"It is impossible to conjure the right words at at time such as this. King Kay has had a profound impact on the lives of all of us, in very different ways. A difficult road lies before us, but King Kay has given Perdan the tools necessary to travel that road through his character, honour, and intelligence."

She cleared her throat and continued, "King Kay was a true warrior, in every essence of the word. He was a religious man, serving Leandra and seeking the highest forms of honour and chivalry. He was a dedicated realm member. We should try to take the traits we idolized and employ them in our own lives."

"I offer a moment of silence, at this moment, for our fallen comrade."

Raine bowed her head and waited. After she looked up, she said, "Before we commence with the burial, I would like to open the floor to anyone who would like to say a few words in honour of our King."

Roleplay from Delphine de Montigny
Delphine stood amongst the throng of nobles and commoners that had traveled this day to pay their final respects to a King that defined Perdan and what it was to be a noble, a knight and follower of Leandra within this great realm. This was a great loss, but King Kays Perdan would live on.
"Before we commence with the burial, I would like to open the floor to anyone who would like to say a few words in honour of our King." - Raine Gildre

Delphine waited for her turn and walked up to the alter, she took a dep breath, making sure to stay composed and not let the emotions get the better of her on this day of celebration for one of the greatest men she ever had the chance to meet.

"I need not give words to describe how great a man King Kay was, Perdan as it stands today speaks for itself, the embodiments of a life's work of a man that gave everything for the people he loved. I am sad to say that I did not get the chance to spend as much time as I would have liked with Kay, but the times I did will stay with me for the rest of my life. He took a chance with me as a young knight, to help lead his army, the Blackmane Paladins. He gave me advice that lead to me becoming Margravine of Mulhouse and Marshal of the Paladins. There was lots to learn from him, and I will cherish every word. He was always willing to listen to what I had to say, he once told me the fire that burns inside me reminded him a lot of himself when he was a young knight and told me to never let it die out. The final lesson he thought me was humility, and how to take responsibility for my actions and work to make things better. His dying wish for me was to make amends with Midnight, his most precious cat. To take care of him and rebuild that trust, and ask forgiveness for dousing the poor thing in wine that one time. The last words he left for me was "Perdan First". All King Kay ever wanted, is for every knight in his realm to follow those simple words. To make sure the big picture is what is important, and with that his legacy will live on forever. Thank you Kay Peregine, you may rest in peace, may Leandra look after you now, and we will look after Perdan for you."

Delphine blew a kiss to the sky, a single tear rolled off her cheek. She returned to where she had been standing, still thinking back at the fine man King Kay had been. The true father of Perdan, to every one of it's people.

Roleplay from Isana Everlight
“Thank you Kay Peregine, you may rest in peace, may Leandra look after you now, and we will look after Perdan for you."

Isana waited a few breaths after Delphine to see if anyone else would stand. Alyssa was motionless. The massed mourners were silent, their stillness immense and deafening as the crashing surf before a hurricane. The only movement was a raven that took wing some distance away.

The dark-haired knight looked to Priestess Raine and made eye contact. A nod given, Isana stood and took a single step forward.

“Lions!” she called, quietly but firm. “I am yet young in the history of this great realm. There are ages past that many of you have seen, that I have not. In the Perdan I have come to know, the only King has been Kay Peregrine: I know no other ruler of this place.”

She turned slightly to look over more of the crowd.

“Under his reign we have become something greater than ourselves. A realm of dutiful people who fight hard, work hard, and celebrate together. This feat of unity required all of us. But it needed direction and leadership as well, a Lion at the helm, and for that, I think we have to credit him greatly.”

Isana paused and let her words’ echo fade in the crowd.

“Thank you, King Kay Peregrine, for being an inspiring and charismatic leader, a tutor, and instrumental in creating this place that I am proud to call home.”

She turned back to the regally-dressed casket, and addressed it more quietly. “Thank you, your Majesty. You will never be forgotten, so long as I live. Rest easy and be at peace.”

She hung her head for a moment, then nodded at Raine once more and stepped back in the roaring silence.

Roleplay from Apollyon Daubeny
Apollyon stood and sighed he wore his new armour though he forwent the helmet, he replaced his white tabard and cloak with unmarked black for mourning “King Kay was a good man, a finer king Perdan could not ask for.”

Apollyon couldn’t help feel the hurt in his heart, another fallen star, another reason to hope for something better gone.

He felt awkward, he was never good at funeral’s, he sighed “I fear I do not have the words to describe what he meant to me, what he meant to this realm, I know others could vocalise it far better, so as I do not know how to do it other wise, I shall sing a song, I wrote it, it was to be my gift to the King, I pray it is sufficient enough or a statement”

Apollyon breathed in and began, his voice calm and sorrowful, hot tears rolled down his cheeks.

“The Dawn has set, upon our home, light passes from this realm.”
Apollyon continued “The Long War is done, rest now my king, your fight is done, the war is won, you can sleep in peace.”

Apollyon took a breath “In life, in death, in love and hate, you lead us through the Storm, you fell, you rised, an angel of her love, the Lions roar resounded north, the elven kings did weep.”

Apollyon continued, pushing through the rising emotion in his heart “The time has come, to rest, my lord, is cubs will care for our, you needn’t worry nor fight again, be at peace with her now.”

Apollyon felt himself almost choke but he couldn’t stop he had to finish “When you’re cold and the sun has set, know we will never forget, the sun will rise again and we will not forget.”

Apollyon finished, he feared he made a fool of himself but it mattered not, he made his thoughts known.

He sat back down and closed his eyes, letting the tears fall freely.
