History

Being so closely located to the territory of Perdan and historically linked to the development of early industry, the region was named Perdan Mines quite early in its history. Quarries and deep mines dot the landscape of most of Perdan Mines, many historic locations in and of themselves. With the sudden manifestation of the Volcano Islands, Perdan Mines saw an explosion in population and business as vessels from the south used the nearby port of what was known as Chaosia to resupply and transport goods to the rest of the continent.

Government

Perdan Mines falls under the authority of the Royal Crown of Perdan from time immemorial. Currently it is administered by Earl Joreb deLacy, who has parcelled out estates to Ser Derrik Myrkwood, and Ser Rogos V'Orlan.

Demography

Much of the population of Perdan Mines are immigrants, new to the lands after a genocide perpetrated by Northern troops. Many live in small villages scattered throughout the mountains, usually strategically located in the aftermath of the Northern devastation, though the ruins of old towns have been rebuilt with North Haven

Notable Locations

Perdan Mines is a rich region immediately west of the great city of Perdan. Scholars classify it as a badlands, although it can be more accurately divided into three distinct areas.
The eastern part, closest to Perdan, is constituted of fertile, rolling hills speckled with vineyards and other fruit orchards, and it boasts some of the finest wines in the Kingdom of Perdan. There are two small towns, equally peaceful is a little sleepy in their contentedness: Leonia, more inland, and Pelasgia, on the East coast. People in this part of Perdan Mines are generally quite rich, or perhaps it is the rich who make their home here.
In the middle of the peninsula the terrain gets rougher as the hills turn to sharp mountains and sheer cliff-faces, and shafts can be spotted marking the hills. This is the area from which the region derives its namesake, and for many the rugged countryside is not particularly pretty. The mining village of Aurocastrum is the main community here. It is also the seat of the Amputated Albatross, a inn infamous throughout the region. People living in and around Aurocastrum are invariably miners or somehow connected to the mining business. They are noted for their extremely bad temper, which the Baron has tried to mitigate by building a small shrine to the Church of Humanity. A big success so far, except that the swearing has not diminished.

The westernmost part of the Perdan Mines is notable for its desolation. Rumours abound that strange things unearthed by the miners have made their abode in the rocky landscape. Marble columns and pieces of majestic statues speak of a great past which none remember. It was also the location of a former Baronial manor, now occupied by a wealthy merchant. The Western coasts boasts a small harbour hosting a sizeable fishing and commercial fleet, some dedicated to the exploitation of the riches of the Volcano Islands.

The Northern tip of the peninsula has historically been known as an isolated outland, far from the city of Perdan. A small fishing community existed in the area known as Chaosia, but since the eruption of the Volcano Islands it was renamed to North Haven. Much of North Haven's industry revolves around the Volcano Islands.
