Men of The Mountain

Deep in the mountains of Redspan are a few small clans of men and women descended from Heroes long past and forgotten. Barbarians, hardened by their simple lives and harsh surroundings; they consider themselves the rightous Horns of Da Smelly One and devote their lives to His service. They know only battle and survival. Countless wolves and bears share their domain, creating a constant battle for territory and food; this coupled with the frequent raids conducted by the regions monsters have forged the mountain men into a people of great fortitude. Few of the mountain folk have ever strayed from their summit homes... Until the vision.

The Vision

The mountain men rely on revered elders for guidance in Da Way. occasionally, one of these elders will consume enough ale to induce a night of visions. These visions are said to be prophecies and instructions from Da One himself. Not long ago, after a feastday, the Elder, Gottabibble, saw two things:

The first were the walls of 'Da Big City', commonly known to the rest of the world as Stargard. Before the walls stood thousands and thousands of faceless men and women and the walls shook. atop the walls stood the nobility of Redspan accompanied by one of the mountain men.

The second vision showed a handful of warriors, all shapes and colours and waving all different banners yet shining as brightly as any torch in the night sky, fighting back to back amidst a horde of these same faceless people.

To the Elders the visions' meaning was clear; two of the mountain men would leave the village and change the course of time and history alike. One would travel to Da Big City and serve alongside da Redspanners until his destiny was revealed. The second would seek out a land torn by war and try to tip the scales of a neverending battle, to save the lives of hundreds at the cost of thousands.

But who would be sent? A challenge perhaps?

The Challenge

Da clans gathered just outside The Village Walls the very next day, and each family sent forth its young men to the elders, their fate, still unknown. It was then that elders presented the young men with their task. He who could reach the top of Mount Goat'sarse before the next morning would sit with the council that night and share in a vision where the two champions would be named.

At the time of sunrise, only four men stood atop Goat'sarse. Brog Hoofart, Kojug Burwakee, and the two Meridius brothers, Kradus and Decimus. That night in the vision, the Elders saw their champions. How fitting it seemed. A quest of Da Smelly One shared by those of like blood. Thus begins our story.

Decimus Meridius

The eldest of the two brothers by mere minutes, Decimus is built much like a bear and shares the same spirit; placid and thoughtful until confronted. The strength and rage of the bear coursing through his veins has earned Decimus a title as the most imposing figure on the battlefield. Decimus is also one of the very few mountain men educated enough to speak fluently with people from the rest of the world.

For this, Decimus was sent to Sandalak, where battles raged and the men of the realm were outnumbered and outflanked, seemingly lost. It was here Decimus would either bring the bear's retribution or fall as nobely as any others bearing the title.

Kradus Meridius

Smaller than his brother but excelling in speed and dexterity where his brother mastered strength. Kradus is the image of the wolf; graceful and deadly, smaller than the mighty bear but just as fearsome. Lacking his brother's education Kradus is sure to find communication difficult beyond the mountains but the Elders are quite certain he will adapt well enough.

In Da Big City Kradus and his brethern are sure to meet the long time foes of greater Redspan. Unsure of the course he will follow Kradus is prepared for anything.
