History

Zebulon Mercer is the pater primus of the Mercer family. Zebulon raised his children on the family estate in Hegado in the Ash Sea Islands on Atamara. The primary values that he tried to instill in his children were those of calm, thorough investigation, the importance of measurement and mathematics, and subservience to the Great Serpeant Magnus. As his children made their fortunes away from home, Zebulon aged and ASI suffered from hard times. Eventually, the successful Charles Mercer had the family home moved to the city of Twillen in Mesh on Beluaterra.

The Second Generation

Archibald Mercer

The eldest son, Archibald stays in ASI as the lord of Lerss, Grand Poobah of the DP Brotherhood, sponsor of the Serpent's Fist army, and mentor to younger nobles. He was appointed Banker of ASI, and optimized the food transfer system before retiring from the position at the onset of a devastating war. As ASI fell to its aggressive neighbors, Archibald was appointed General of the dying realm, then seceded Lerss to Caergoth peacefully to prevent unnecessary death. The dishonorable leadership of Caergoth insisted on brutally murdering the people of Lerss and burning their farms. Caergoth also insisted on destroying the benevolent temple of the Great Serpent Magnus. This was unacceptable to Archibald, who had taken care of the people of Lerss and served the Great Serpent for many years. Archibald was eventually unseated, and spent his time striking out at the evil and brutal destroyers of ASI and oppressors of Magnus Serpeansism, until finally being captured and executed, a martyr.

Bernard Mercer

Bernard initially sought philosophical and spiritual enlightenment in the Colonies. The first realm he visited was terribly bereft of any such things, so he joined their neighbors, the Assassins. The Assassins were actually a rather jolly bunch, and took pride in their theatrical abilities and perspective that life is a stage. Bernard finally received a letter from his younger brother, Charles, that the realm of Soliferum was home to some strong theologies. Bernard went to join Charles, only to find that Charles had been abducted by pirates headed for Beluaterra. During his time in Soliferum, Bernard had been appointed Banker of the realm, and had served as the lord of Todtpiz, Razrpot, and presently Sozon. Though he learned about the several religions in the area, none of them ultimately satisfied him until he became a member of the Trinity. Bernard eventually grew too dissatisfied with the corrupt tyranny of Soliferum, disguised as a republic. He boarded a ship to the East continent, and joined a democratic realm, Fontan. Bernard challenged Anurak Invictus of Sirion to a duel to the death, and won, though Anurak survived. Bernard was killed in a duel with another knight of Sirion. He was a legendary hero.

Charles Mercer

The youngest son, Charles, can probably be considered the most successful of Zebulon's children. He sought his fortune to the East, only to be abducted by pirates one night and taken to Beluaterra. Fortunately, he landed in Mesh, and rich democratic realm of brave nobles and opportunities to prove oneself. He was soon appointed to the lordship of Hoelorr. Demonstrating the management savvy of the Mercer family, he became successor to the duchy of Twillen after Duke Roland Occam. Charles preserved and maintained Twillen through the great daimon invasion. Charles was consistently elected to the position of Judge for half a year. As Judge, Charles personally executed a daimon army leader. Though the Judge position allowed Charles to help regions by holding courts, he still felt the draw of the Mercer skill set, and campaigned for the position of Banker instead. He was elected Banker, and stayed Banker for one year, overseeing the reconstruction of Mesh from the low point of the invasion to nearly the strongest it has ever been. With Mesh operating smoothly, and Chancellor Yorick stepping down, Charles campaigned for the position of Chancellor so that he could present an assertive international stance on the eradication of the daimons. Charles was finally and sadly killed by a small army of undead while he was on his way through daimon territory to fight the daimon-worshippers in Sint. He was a legendary hero.

Darla Mercer

Darla is not officially recognized as a member of the family by the rest of the second generation, though she claims the surname. She wandered the lands of Beluaterra, battling monsters and other unholy creatures until earning her nobility and now preaches for the New Way of the Dragon on Beluaterra.

The Third Generation

Edward Anthony

Edward is Archibald's eldest son. Born and raised in ASI on Atamara, he became cynical and aggressive with its destruction and the execution of his father. He joined Darka to gain renown while engaging in violence. Darka was boringly at peace, and run by nitwits, so he traveled to Perdan in the East. Perdan was at war, and he would see action there. He seeks glory on the battlefield and little else. When Perdan also established peace with its enemies, Edward moved to Westmoor to continue the fight.

Franklin

Franklin is Bernard's eldest son. He has always known travel, trade, and philosophy. Never gaining much proficiency with a sword, nor having that inclination, he is satisfied with the life of a trader. He gets to see many lands, sample many diverse treats, and make a profit. He is currently the proud Count of Supra.

Geoffrey

Geoffrey is Charles' eldest son. He began his career in Arcachon in the East. He wishes to gain great skill with the sword before following his father's great footsteps. He has an amazing legacy to grow into, and fears he will not be half the man his father was.

Fame

There is definitely NO fame for 10,000 gold, for having a high preaching skill or trading skill, for having family honor over 1200, for an adventurer becoming a noble, for family prestige over 150.
